Thats my goal is not a rejected westlife track.

Technically you are correct.

The Swedish songwriter Jörgen Elofsson (whom also wrote Britney Spears "Sometimes"; Westlife's "If I Let You Go"; "Fool Again"; "My Love"; "Unbreakable"; Steps "It's the Way You Make Me Feel"; Gareth Gates "Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)"; Will Young's "Evergreen"; ...) said "That's My Goal" was originally written for Westlife to record on their subsequent 2005 "Face To Face" album.

But Simon Cowell thought it would make a better X-Factor's winning single instead. So it is more of a case of being too good for Westlife rather than a Westlife reject.....

Hopefully it be the last series, as Simon has said he no longer wants to be a judge, but I bet 3 moonths down the line, he changes his mind. -_-

Doesn't mean the show will end, it makes him plenty of money  Would be interesting to see if it survived without him on the judging panel though, and who he would get in to fill his high trousers.

I think it might breathe a bit of life into the show.

I was pleasantly surprised with Alexandra's (and JLS') rendition of the song. I was quite synical beforehand, but I think Alex's interpretation of the song is good. I think it's the best X-Factor winner's song by a large margin, actually. It's about as good as it could've possibly been with the mighty X-Factor winning key-change.

I don't think it holds a candle to Jeff Buckley's version, but I don't feel as strongly about this topic as others. Some people are being shockingly over-dramatic.

Alex sold over 100k yesterday in downloads. Easily #1, I think she'll get very close to Leona's 571k for AMLT.
Alex sold over 100k yesterday in downloads.

Most likely she will double that again today, but I just say slightly under 190k which gives a slight sales hint for tomorrow as a guess from the top of my head.

Also keep an eye on the national newspapers this week, they could have the odd sales info in there.

I'm just wishing now that the X Factor single had been a cover of Hallelujah by Milk And Honey, winner of Eurovision 1979:

Alexandra sold 105,000 Downloads yesterday. So, she already has the UK's

No.1, (Best Selling), Single as I write. Leona won't have sold 105,000

copies - even with Sunday & Monday added together.

However, it is all very, very safe, & predictable. We may as well decide

on January 1st each Year, that the 'X Factor' Winner will be No.1 at Christmas.

Hardly exciting is it? Alexandra = Le-Clone-A Lewis.

ITV news has said that she's had the fastest-selling download EVER!!!
Hi everyone, I think Alex will be number 1! It is a great song and so is she. I have loved the song for a long time thanks to Jeff Buckley. Not long to go . . . :cheer:
ITV news has said that she's had the fastest-selling download EVER!!!

But it's almost bound to be isn't it. Downloads have only in the last couple of years become dominant over physicals, and it's increasing every year. As long as there is a reasonably good winner with a goodish song and a 14 million audience there will be an inevitable 'fastest selling download' result, no doubt next year's winner (if they're any good) will also get the same accolade.

I guess the overall sales will be the real indication of the success of the song.

Alex is first on ITUNES..great achievemente for her

Oh my...

Not even her song and she butchers it anyway. It's meant to be a beautiful, understated ballad, but given The X-Factor treatment, it ends with pointless vocal w*n**ry, an even more pointless key change, and an obligatory X-Factor backing choir which verges on blasphemy that it's being used in a song such as this.

Leona's sold over 500k first week I think

Think it was 571k (from memory). It has sold about 900k so far but not reached 1m i believe- Bleeding Love has outsold it (no other talent show winner has outsold their debut release i believe :))

Shayne Ward's is the only winners single to have sold 1m though thus far. :P

true! His 1st week sales were 740k (again from memory don't moan if thats not exact)

I think SImon Cowell will make sure every shop has the physical. Bypass the distributors and send them out directly from the record label.

The XF Hero song was available everywhere- even Woolworths stocked it, and Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco etc, places that don't stock any singles at all normally so i'm sure hers will be available everywhere possible as Cowell will want this and shops know its an easy fast buck.

I think she will do over 450k this week easily. Could even do more, but Shayne is probably safe (and Will Young def is 1.11m in 1st week and thats b4 downloads counted!)

On the note of fastest selling download, Leona is supposed to have sold 50k in 30mins following XF 2006, setting the world record, so Alexandra would really have needed to have done over 50k of her 1st day 85k in half an hour. Sounds unlikely but all the preorders instantly released at midnight may have done it

Seemingly Jörgen Elofsson's Evergreen was always meant to be the winners single also, he wrote A Moment Like This which Kelly Clarkson released after winning AI and Leona Lewis also released after winning X-Factor.

Simon Cowell came to me and explained the concept of Pop Idol, asking if I could write the winner's song. He said: "How does the artist feel when he's standing on stage as a winner, for the first time? That's what I want the song to describe." That's why I wrote: "I want to take this moment and make it last forever" in the chorus of Evergreen.

As it took them ages to get the project together, the track ended up on a Westlife album first. (The Will Young version was the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history, selling 403,027 copies on its day of release. It went on to sell over 1.7m copies.)

What is the track listing for the CD single?

I heard the B-sides are her X Factor performances of 'Candyman' and 'Without You'.

On BBC News yesteday, they said that if Alexandra and Jeff Buckley are #1 & #2 this would be the first time it ever happened for the same song by different acts.

This isn't true. There are 2 other occasions that I know of that this happened.

This week in 1953 - Answer Me was at #1 by Frankie Laine and #2 by David Whitfield on the same chart (see HERE)

In 1956 - Unchained Melody was at #1 by Jimmy Young and #2 by Al Hibbler.

I wish these media people would do their research.
