December 19, 200816 yr TIP always says it much better than me :( Anyway I bet none of you would be making such a big deal out of it and saying how brilliant you think it is if it wasn't for it being on a TV show. The song wouldn't have been half as successful if it wasn't the winner of X Factor and you all know that is a fact! If Alexandra or anyone from X Factor was just signed to a record label and released the same material then they wouldn't have got anywhere and I'm sure no one would really be bothered on here either!

Jeff Buckley's version wouldn't have got all this atention and would never be #2 on Christmas week without the X Factor neither ;) And OF COURSE Alex wouldn't be as popular without the X Factor, that goes without saying, so I don't understand your point really... Yes, it's a heavily commercial show, producing commercial artists. But being "commercial" doesn't make it necessary wrong. :) Edited December 19, 200816 yr by Xmas_Bert
December 20, 200816 yr Which brings us full circle to Leona 2.0 © The Word Magazine. Funny how she has pulled out of the Paul O'Grady show today ..... nothing to do with the small fact that Geraldine McQueen is on the show as well. Where did you hear that?
December 20, 200816 yr Amazon gives more info about the bonus disc on the new album - apparently it will be a 5 track live CD. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Album-Bonus-Live-T...xgy_m_h__text_b
December 20, 200816 yr if she were talented, same for Leona, she wouldn't have needed the x-factor, nor would she sing songs she's not written
December 20, 200816 yr if she were talented, same for Leona, she wouldn't have needed the x-factor, nor would she sing songs she's not written Stupid argument. That would mean that talented people can always make it on their own... then there're not that many talented artists out there because we can't say there're hundreds of new talents new coming in the charts every year... It's hard for talented artists to make it big, it's not only a question of talent, and I don't see why "talented" artists wouldn't try to get a bigger audience AND above all a record deal by giving a try on the X Factor or other commercial shows. AND since when talent is all about writing songs ? The likes of Aretha Franklin or Witney Houston weren't big songwriters ... Edited December 20, 200816 yr by Xmas_Bert
December 20, 200816 yr Oh would some of you calm the f*** down. It's just a song and it's just a Reality TV Show, YES it's annoying it's gonna be christmas #01 until it eventually ends but you don't have to go on about it like you have nothing better to do. And I actually think Alex's version of 'Hallelujah' is the best winning song, might not be saying much, but it's a step in the right direction. It's so boring and kinda sheepish saying how you hate it, atrocity to music, blah blah blah. We do get it. Same can be said for The Saturdays. It'd be nice to see some of you be positive about something. It's so f***ing tedious.

It'd be nice to see some of you be positive about something. It's so f***ing tedious. Do you want me to come up with some random positive comments which can be used at a later date? An example of my work: "Gosh _____ haven't half produced some nice music lately" "_____'s music reminds me of cake" "_____ and ______ are so very lovely. They make me yay!" Certainly would break the monoity of SHÎT that this topic has now become.
December 20, 200816 yr Am I sheep for actually liking this? and actually buying the song? I thought I was allowed to buy a song if I liked it?? How about you actually listen to the Leonard Cohen original and the absolutely superb Jeff Buckley cover (the absolute BEST version of this song by a mile....) and then come back and tell me you think Alexandra "Leona Clone" is such hot sh!t.....

It's just a song and it's just a Reality TV Show, YES it's annoying it's gonna be christmas #01 until it eventually ends but you don't have to go on about it like you have nothing better to do. For once I so agree with you ^_^ Some people will ALWAYS moan about the X Factor, but there is PLENTY of music out there, so they should just enjoy it and the freedom we have to download and to listne to music we like. You moan that commercial songs from a commercial show are at the top of the charts, but what are the "charts" exactly ? It's an addition of UNITS SOLD in a week time. Nothing more, so it is rather normal to see "commercial" songs topping it.

It'd be nice to see some of you be positive about something. It's so f***ing tedious. When something positive actually comes out of sh!t like "X-Factor" or the manufactured Pop scene, then we'll be more postive about it.... I think TiP is totally spot on... Great posts he's contributed to this subject..... Geraldine McQueen is totally, 100% nail/head hitting interface..... Excellent satire.... And yeah, perhaps the Petar Kay show couldn't exist without "X-Factor", but similarly Rory Bremner and Have I Got News For You wouldn't exist without Politicians, so we should all support the Govt....???

The only reason she's called a "Leona Clone" is because she's black and Leona's mixed race. There's no other corroborating factor between them apart from the fact that they can both sing. They're two completely different singers, you may call Alex a Beyonce lite - I can see the comparisons there but alex is an RnB snger who touches a lot on soul as well, she's really diverse and shes probably at her best when singing uptempo songs but she can do ballads just as well. Leona on the other hand is a pop singer who touches a little on RnB, she's not very good at up-tempo songs and unlike Alex, cannot dance. She's a ballad singer who has pitch perfect vocals and an amazing range with whistle capabilities, unlike Alex who has a deeper voice and she may be able to souch a the lower notes of the 6th octave but favours a more deep/soulful approach. How can you say that they're really similar? I mean in terms of the different X Factor winners they're probably the most similar but that's not saying much at all - If I claimed that Britney is a "Christina clone" or vice versa, i'd get laughed off this forum!
December 20, 200816 yr if she were talented, same for Leona, she wouldn't have needed the x-factor, nor would she sing songs she's not written You're acting like 1) she has a say in whether or not her first single is a cover. 2) They're the only people who have ever covered a song. And considering how long you've been a member here, surely you would have realised by now that talent doesn't necessarily = a record deal and world domination. Its all about getting the right breaks in music, and like it or not, the X Factor is essentialy a massive break for a talented singer.
December 20, 200816 yr Some people will ALWAYS moan about the X Factor, but there is PLENTY of music out there Yeah, you're right, there IS plenty of music out there, so, explain to me, exactly why it is that it only ever seems to be the sh!tty Manufactured tripe that gets the hype, the support, the press, the TV spots.... One cannot deny a total bias in favour of manufactured pop.... Otherwise you'd have the new Liams, Noels, Jarvis', Morrisseys, Kates, Goldfrapps and Lennons all turning up on "X-Factor", you dont, and it's very telling..... You want "commercial", well, try Metallica selling well over 3 million albums in the space of two months and being the No 1 album in about a dozen or so territories.... Point me to the nearest Boy Band or Girl Group who have sold that many units lately....... It sure as sh!t aint The Saturdays...... Also, try Evanescence shifting 21 million units over the course of only TWO albums...... yeah, soooooooooooooo "uncommercial" this Rock/Metal stuff.....
December 20, 200816 yr I hate it when people call her a "Leona clone" is so, so, so, so ignorant. Well, isn't that what Cowell kinda wanted anyway...??? Another Leona that he can exploit only in a slightly different way.... And, sorry, but this manufactured tripe all sounds the same to me anyway.... It's nothing 'music', fukkin' bland shopping-mall muzak with nothing to really distinguish one thing from the other..... To further utilise TiP's "McDonalds" metaphor, the difference between Leona and Alex is like the difference between a "Big Mac" and a "Cheese Quarter-Pounder".... It is essentially the same junk.....

Well thats your opinion but for me, I think that the bands you mentioned above are just complete trash. When I listen to them all I hear is loud noise. Thats the beauty of music. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. Edited December 20, 200816 yr by Rena
December 20, 200816 yr Also, try Evanescence shifting 21 million units over the course of only TWO albums...... Erm, but the likes of Evanescence and Metallica ARE heavily promoted on TV and stuff. Who doesn't know them or their music ? You just prove that medias are open to talented music too (and anyway, as Rena said, Evanescence music is RUBBISH for a lots of people who will claim they have no talent at all). And if you look at the top of sales for this year's albums, you have the like of Coldplay, Duffy, Adele, Amy MacDonald, The Killers (and many others) who are so so so talented. And who appears on TV a lot too, so the whole "talent is banned from TV" argument isn't grounded at all. Edited December 20, 200816 yr by Xmas_Bert
December 20, 200816 yr Well thats your opinion but for me, I think that the bands you mentioned above are just complete trash. When I listen to them all I hear is loud noise. Thats the beauty of music. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. With something like "X-Factor" it's slightly difficult to ignore, it's cross-platform, multi-media, internet viral fukkin' CR@P, it's the music form of cancer, just when you think you've gotten rid of it, oh, look, there it is again..... Even on the sodding Internet you can't get away from some plug for Leona or Cowell.....
December 20, 200816 yr so the whole "talent is banned from TV" argument isn't grounded at all. It's certainly banned from "X-Factor" it seems.... So, tell me, just WHY it is that this show seems utterly incapable of turning out the equivalents of artists I mentioned in a previous post... And just where ARE the equivalents of the likes of The Killers or Oasis on "X-Factor"? Nope, sorry, you're wrong, there IS a clear bias towards the manufactured in "X-Factor" and the mainstream media in general... You're an idiot if you cant see it mate.....

You have the likes of Will Young who came out of this show (and he's a hundred times more talented than your Metalica trash, you're an idiot if you can't face it). And lots of the artists you love are playing the "we're banned from TV" card, and they would never accept to perform on the X Factor if they were invited (and then they would complain there ain't place for bands like them on such shows, the idiots...). But it's funny you quote Evanescence and Mettalica as your "talented" references  Especially considering the last act is just TRASH music without an inch of talent.
