GARY GLITTER - "ANOTHER ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS" http://www.vinyltap.co.uk/gallery/ga/garygararc772193892820.jpg Entered chart w/e 1/12/84 Reached No.7 w/e 22/12/84 Weeks on chart : 7 Despite everything we now know about him, you can't deny that this was a pretty good Xmas song! Better than any other festive single that got to No.7 anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp_aST3vXdg
December 19, 200816 yr Author Other festive No.7s : Max Bygraves - "Jingle Bell Rock" (1959) The Goodies - "Father Christmas Do Not Touch Me" (1974) Bon Jovi - "Please Come Home For Christmas" (1994)
December 19, 200816 yr He is clearly not a very nice man but then again neither is Michael Jackson and his records aren't subject to a ban by shops and radio stations, this is actually one of the better christmas records, not a classic but a good seasonal song
December 19, 200816 yr He is clearly not a very nice man but then again neither is Michael Jackson and his records aren't subject to a ban by shops and radio stations, Michael Jackson was, unfortunately, not convicted of child molesting, so it would be difficult to justify a ban because his legions of deluded fans would protest such a move, so Jackson we have to tolerate and give the benefit of the doubt until someone finally nails the b/astard... Not so with Glitter, we know exactly who/what he is, there are no ambiguities whatsoever, and there's absolutely no one out there who would even take up his cause, unlike Jacko.... Are you seriously suggesting that radio shows should just pay royalties to this creature knowing what he's done...? Frankly, it is irrelevant how "good" the tune might be, it's tainted through its association with Gadd/Glitter, I mean, would it have mattered if Hitler had been a writer on a par with Shakespeare or Chaucer...? No, it wouldn't....

No, it wouldn't.... Nah don't get me wrong the ban on Glitter is justified my post was not an endorsement of him more anti Jackson and pointing out the inconsistency of radio stations and record stores given he paid millions to Jordi Chandler's family (to me an admission of guilt) and the recent not guilty verdict which was as absurd as the OJ verdict given Jackson admitted to having boys in his bed and giving them vodka, I don't want to see Glitter records in shops but then again I don't think there should be Jackson ones so my post was anti Jackson as opposed to pro Glitter
December 19, 200816 yr if they (rightly) ban glitters records they MUST also ban material by other convicted paedos. that would THANKFULLY include jonathon kings records, all but 'everyones gone to the moon' was godamn awful. plus no more records by the who, or by the foundations (whos drummer has been convicted).
December 19, 200816 yr i agree though with neil... not unusually, it IS one of his better tracks having stood the test of time well.... i quite like it and is possibly ANOTHER case of the crimbo track being the best from an artist.
December 19, 200816 yr plus no more records by the who, or by the foundations (whos drummer has been convicted). Weren't the charges against Pete Townsend actually dropped though....?

Jacko IS vile, no doubt about it, and I am pretty damn convinced that he is a p****, but it's that whole pesky "conviction" thing getting in the way, and also the fact that his moron fans would probably organise a picket outside any radio station that DID say they would ban his records... OJ finally got his just desserts the other week though, so, at least we finally got that c/unt behind bars where he belongs.... Maybe Jacko will get his further down the line...
December 19, 200816 yr Weren't the charges against Pete Townsend actually dropped though....? yes, but so what? he HAD images on his pc and for some reason the police bought the 'im researching' line.... the fact is that he HAD got indecent images of kiddies on his pc, which IS illegal. i mean, if he was researching, why had he saved images?... i like the who.... but this has raised the question should we be buying their records and paying a probable p**** to indulge in his sick lifestyle?
December 19, 200816 yr yes, but so what? he HAD images on his pc and for some reason the police bought the 'im researching' line.... the fact is that he HAD got indecent images of kiddies on his pc, which IS illegal. i mean, if he was researching, why had he saved images?... I suppose it depends on if he actually did write that book on child abuse... I mean, did he...? If he did then I suppose he had a reason to look at certain websites (although you prob have a point about him saving the images though, I question the necessity of that), I mean you couldn't do a research paper or write a book on Terrorism without logging into Jihadist websites could you...? If not, then he's clearly a lying git and should've got the same punishment as that comedian bloke (forget the name just now) who got nabbed with kiddie porn on his PC... As Townsend wasn't convicted, he's kind of in that "limbo" with Jackson.... It would be similarly difficult to justify a ban on The Who because why should Daltrey and Entwhistle suffer for Townsend's crimes, they've done nowt wrong..... The Who are a band as opposed to a solo artist, so what affects one affects all....
December 19, 200816 yr Sh1t, I just remembered, John Entwhistle's dead...!!!!! (that's LOL at my own forgetfulness, not LOL at John Entwhistle being dead.....) Well, I suppose whoever it is that gets his Royalties... Family, etc.....
December 19, 200816 yr Townsend accepted a police caution for the images so I don't know whether cautions count as a conviction

Must admit though, you never hear Take That's cover these days either.
December 19, 200816 yr Author "It Only Takes A Minute" was a Tavares song anyway so no royalties would go to JK.

I think JK's records are officially banned, they're always skipped over when they come up on Pick Of The Pops even if it's a climber/new entry.

Yeah, Tavares had a US hit with it in 1975 but it didn't chart in the UK until 1986.

The dancefloor rightly cleared in 15/20 seconds; and the DJ had to change songs. However I find it shocking the Chuck Berry records are still OK to be played. I guess: 1) Because he is not British 2) He was interested in young girls not boys That makes him OK; to the sexist British tabloids & the politically correct liberal Radio programmers who are happy to remove the word "f*****" from the best Xmas song ever made, even though its context was about the Irish/British meatball foodstuff not the post World War II American slang term for a male homosexual. As for Pete Townsend he was about as guilty as Colin Stagg: As part of the Operation Ore investigations, Townshend was cautioned by the police in 2003 after acknowledging a credit card access in 1999 to the Landslide website alleged to advertise child pornography. He stated in the press and on his website that he had been engaged in research for A Different Bomb (a now-abandoned book based on an anti-child pornography essay published on his website in January 2002) and his autobiography, and as part of a campaign against child pornography. The police searched his house and confiscated fourteen computers and other materials, and after a four-month forensic investigation confirmed that they had found no evidence of child abuse images. Consequently, the police offered a caution rather than pressing charges, issuing a statement: "After four months of investigation by officers from Scotland Yard's child protection group, it was established that Mr Townshend was not in possession of any downloaded child abuse images." In a statement issued by his solicitor, Townshend said, "I accept that I was wrong to access this site, and that by doing so, I broke the law, and I have accepted the caution that the police have given me." As a statutory consequence of accepting the caution, Townshend was entered on the Violent and Sex Offender Register for five years. In April 2007, an article in The Guardian stated that Townshend was "falsely accused of accessing child pornography". After obtaining copies of the Landslide hard drives and tracing Townshend's actions, investigative journalist Duncan Campbell wrote in PC Pro Magazine, "Under pressure of the media filming of the raid, Townshend appears to have confessed to something he didn't do." Campbell states that their entire evidence against Townshend was that he accessed a single site among the Landslide offerings which was not connected with child pornography. When you consider that both David Bowie (in his 1990s 1:Outside concept album) & Ray Davies have both admitted that they have researched on the internet to write abut this controversial subject matter in their music does that make them as bad as Pete Townsend. Somehow I think Rob has fallen foul of the media's totally hysterical and counterproductive treatment of the subject as brilliantly & expertedly satirised by 2001'S BrassEye Special: Paedogeddon! PS. On the subject of Michael Jackson I'm convinced he is as guilty as hell from the various documentaries I have seen, and initially I thought he was innocent and being framed; but too many things have since come out to convince me of his guilt beyond reasonable doubt. But unfortunately if you cannot get enough evidence to make something stick then you cannot convict. However the very fact his Thriller reissue album limped in at USA #66; when to the shame of the Great British "must go and buy the new X-Factor winning single even though it is f***ing $h!te compared to Jeff Buckley's version" Public it made UK#3. (Hence why Simon Cowell had a Michael Jackson week on his show; and is happy to employ the smug cretin that is Piers Morgan whom as Chief Editor = 1994 News Of The World headline: "Sick pervert Rachel killer free to kill again"; 1996 Daily Mirror: "Achtung! Surrender"; 2004 Daily Mirror "British troops torture Iraqi prisoners" with the photographic proof that was of course a crude hoax; but led to an escalation of attacks on British troops in Iraq which saw the highest 3 month fatality figures for UK troops in their occupation of Iraq). Shows that Americans who now have a decent President are actually more smarter than us British.
