December 23, 200816 yr Author the big finish! Albums 3. Katy Perry - One Of The Boys yzOY0a9xSII Full Chart Run: 2-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-2-4-3-5-6-7-8-8-10-12-12-13 Now this took me by surprise...I thought I Kissed A Girl was very good and an obvious hit, even though I didn't quite think it was as good as it's hype suggested, and the track only peaked at No.4 in my chart. I decided to purchase the album anyway as I do stuff like that, and was really pleasantly surprised. Many people criticise it for being weak but I have to say that I completely disagree. Here is my track by track rate of the album to show why I love it so much: 1. One Of The Boys - 9/10 2. I Kissed A Girl - 9/10 3. Waking Up In Vegas - 8.5/10 4. Thinking Of You - 9/10 5. Mannequin -8 /10 6. Ur So Gay - 8.5/10 7. Hot 'n' Cold 10/10 8. If You Can Afford Me - 8/10 9. Lost - 8.5/10 10. Self Inflicted - 10/10 11. I'm Still Breathing - 8/10 12. Fingerprints - 7/10 Only really the last track is something I wouldn't rush back to listen to, but even that's good...a quite competent debut in my opinion, even if a lot of these songs are perhaps not 'radio hits', I do think that it flows well and is a great collection of pop songs!

December 23, 200816 yr It's a shame One Of The Boys got so much abuse really, it's not perfect but their are some fantastic songs on it (Hot N Cold, One Of The Boys, Self Inflicted, Thinking Of You)
December 23, 200816 yr Author 2. Sara Bareilles - Little Voice xB4LlEaK8eM Full Chart Run: 6-3-2-1-1-2-2-1-2-1-1-4-5-8-9-10-12-11-10-7-11-12-11-13-10-4-2-1-2-4-7-10-11-14-15-16-18-18-18 Love Song entered my chart way back in November 2007 and persuaded me quite quickly to get Californian singer Sara's debut album. Somehow the album reached the top ten in the UK off the back of Love Song, but disappeared quickly meaning that most people would not have been able to hear a truly mesmerising singer-songwriter collection. I find album's from this genre quite hit and miss usually but this one was hit nearly all the way and had a very weird chart run during 2008, having four separate stints at No.1! Here is my track by track review of the album: 1. Love Song - 10/10 2. Vegas - 8/10 3. Bottle It Up - 9/10 4. One Sweet Love - 8/10 5. Come Round Soon - 8/10 6. Morningside - 8.5/10 7. Between The Lines - 8/10 8. Love On The Rocks - 10/10 9. City - 10/10 10. Many the Miles - 8.5/10 11. Fairytale - 9.5/10 12. Gravity - 9/10 the main problem with this album is that only Love Song, and possibly Fairytale would work as singles so it was doomed from the start...as a collective album however, it's fantastic and I hope that she comes back with something as strong next time, but I sincerely doubt that she will ever grace the UK top 75 singles or albums chart again.
December 23, 200816 yr Author It's a shame One Of The Boys got so much abuse really, it's not perfect but their are some fantastic songs on it (Hot N Cold, One Of The Boys, Self Inflicted, Thinking Of You) I agree, I think she is just someone that people love to hate for no reason in particular :(
December 23, 200816 yr Author 1. Alphabeat - This Is Alphabeat dhbhsa2m2Iw Full Chart Run: 7-5-2-4-5-7-1-1-2-4-6-4-1-1-3-5-6-6-6-5-5-5-3-3-2-3-5-6-10-10-10-9-10-13-14-14-15-20-20-19-19 Fascination instantly became a favourite of mine and I instantly downloaded their Danish album titled Alphabeat, which was very similar to the UK album albeit with two or three different tracks. In fact, I was very sad that the excellent Into The Jungle, Ocean Blue and The Hours didn't make it onto the UK album. This band I saw live, and their show was one of the best I've ever seen, excellent energy and a great catalogue of songs, one of my favourite debut albums of all time actually. Only ten songs long, this is practically the perfect pure pop album, particularly the second half, and I am gobsmacked and quite devestated that they got dropped. Perhaps in hindsight the more mellow What Is Happening wasn't the best choice of single, perhaps Fantastic 6 would have done better. Here is my track by track rating of this fantastic pop album, and my favourite of 2008! 1. Fantastic Six - 10/10 2. Fascination - 10/10 3. 10,000 Nights - 10/10 4. Boyfriend - 10/10 5. What Is Happening - 10/10 6. Go-Go - 9/10 7. Touch Me Touching You - 9/10 8. Rubber Boots - 8/10 9. Public Image - 9/10 10. Nothing But My Baby - 8.5/10
December 23, 200816 yr Author Singles 5. Charlotte Perrelli - Hero Full Chart Run: 37-1-3-6-7-4-3-2-1-1-1-2-2-5-10-17-26-35 ZSLnnnYtA5g Well there I was thinking that Leona's Run was the biggest climb to No.1 in my chart, I completely forgot about this. An instant Schlager Eurodisco classic from aging Swedish diva Charlotte Perrelli (nee Nilsson), this quickly became one of my favourite tracks from this year's Eurovision and I was severely unimpressed at its final placing in the contest. It was the longest running Eurovision related No.1 since 2002 in my chart, the track clocking up four non-consecutive weeks at No.1 and 14 weeks inside the top ten in total. I know it's completely generic and Sweden-by-numbers but I still can't help but adore this brilliant pop track.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 4. Girls Aloud - The Promise Full Chart Run: 17-3-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-5-10-13-13 z7TkyzvXLdo Girls Aloud have always been one of my favourite acts, scoring over 30 top ten hits in my chart so far, but they have always lacked a massive chart topping single for me. All of their other chart toppers had only a week at the top of my chart, but The Promise blew the success of the others out of the water. First time I heard it I was won over and I know a lot of people see it as far from their best, but for me it is a reminder of how far they have come, and how they have transformed British pop almost single handedly in the past 6 years. A well deserved end of year top five finish, and the first time they have ever finished inside my end of year top ten! A band that truly get better and better with age! Oh and it features another of my three favourite lyrics of the year 'Here I am walking primrose', what on earth is Sarah on about!?!
December 23, 200816 yr Author 3. Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong Full Chart Run: 38-10-7-7-12-11-12-5-5-6-4-2-2-1-1-1-5-6-9-12-19-27-35-45 a2xw9XUgge0 'Love can be hard sometimes, yes it can catch you off guard like bad crimes'. Surely the best opening lyric to any song, ever!?! Norwegian diva and former Idols contestant Maria Haukaas Storeng proved that in the face of political/diaspora voting, a stunning song can rise up to the top, and in this year's Eurovision, this excellent 60's influenced pop soul offering, written by her friend and fellow Norwegian Mira Craig, finished in 5th place for Norway, more famous for coming last at Eurovision than having success. It's a shame that it was never released as a single here as like Mine All Mine, see #10, she could have had a massive UK hit with this as radio would love it. A song that lasted well beyond Eurovision, this song spent almost half a year in my chart and has surpassed Ira Losco's 7th Wonder to become my favourite Eurovision song to date. Truly great.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 2. Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air Full Chart Run: 20-4-3-9-20-32-41-46-47-33-12-4-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-5-7-11-18-24-30-36 _pL6fK1iNIQ Like I said before, Jordin is not someone I had a lot of time for as an American Idol winner, however having bought her album because I liked Tattoo, it became instantly obvious that No Air was the standout track. A brilliant 'they got it just right' duet with the man of 2008, Chris Brown, this is an amazing pop/r&b crossover track which absolutely ruled my summer spending 6 weeks at the top of my chart, having previously made the top 3 as an album track before falling away. It's a shame it wasn't a UK No.1 considering the amount of time it spent in the charts and the sales that it clocked up, but at least Jordin was given a chance to release this excellent track here, unlike Carrie Underwood, who could surely have a monster hit on her hands with Before He Cheats!?!
December 23, 200816 yr 2 great albums there, Sara should finish in my top 15 end of year albums and Alphabeat in the top 10. I myself was very pleased when Little Voice made the top 10, it was just a shame Bottle It Up didnt even chart at all. I mean i wasnt expecting top 75 but to not make the top 200 at all was awful. Alphabeat getting dropped is a tragedy IMO, Fascination, 10000 Nights & Boyfriend were all brilliant but i agree that Fantastic 6 would have been a better choice of final single. Hero was just simply fantastic and has now probably overtaken This Is My Life to become my second favourite from this years Eurovision, Bullet is also brilliant by the way. The Promise for me whilst still being very good is far from my favourite GA track, according to a countdown i made a month or so back i ranck it as my 26th favorite GA song and 12th single. Hold On Be Strong came extremly close to making my chart and was in there right until the final update but something must have knocked it out at the last minute, anyway great song and it was very pleasing to see it do well in the competition. And i think everyone knows how i feel about No Air
December 23, 200816 yr Author 1. Sara Bareilles - Love Song 44-12-10-12-12-3-2-3-4-3-2-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-2-4-5-7-9-10-10-5-7-7- 10-12-11-3-1-2-3-4-6-8-12-15-19-27-34-40 Uf6XKw80x9c And finally, onto the No.1! It was only ever going to be one track, and that track is the brilliant Love Song by Sara Bareilles. This song first popped onto my radar in November 2007 via random MySpace searching. It grew and grew on me and was my xmas No.2 last year behind Delta's Believe Again. Then in 2008, it continued to grow on me even more, and it was around this time that the song became a surprise hit in the US thanks to a Napster commercial. What was truly shocking to me is when it started to take off in the UK. US singer songwriter females with quirky songs aren't exactly familiar to the UK top five in this day and age but this song defied the odds to climb steadily to No.4 in the UK, which prompted it to return to No.1 in my chart for a fifth week in total and took its top ten total to a stunning 32 weeks, breaking the previous record of 30 weeks held by Shakira's Hips Don't Lie. I can't explain why I like this song so much, it just really clicks with me...absolutely brilliant!
December 23, 200816 yr Well's that's no suprise is it  A great song which managed to reach #3 in my chart for 2 weeks and will finish in the top 40 of my end of year chart.
