Albania are the first country to decide on their entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest tonight. :o Another Olta Boka would be alright I suppose, and although I've not heard any of their national final songs, I bet they'll end up picking something similar to that!

I totally haven't followed this either. But it's very exciting that a country is picking for next year already - the Eurovision season is finally upon us :w00t:
Excellent! I shall open the ESC entries thread once it is announced...
Thing is, it's tied to their national song contest, Festival E Kenges (sp?) which has been held around this date every year since the 60s...
Albania are one of my favorite countries in the contest. Their 2006, 2007 and 2008 entries were great

SONI MALAJ FTW!

I can't say I'd mind Kejsi Tola winning either, but it is a bit I Love You Mi Vida-ish...

We have a winner :)

And it's Kejsi Tola (see 2nd video from Trash's post)

Quite catchy....I would imagine they'd modify the stage presentation a little for Moscow though!

Kejsi Tola !!! WOO!

And I need to ask this. How the HELL do Albania have a bigger selection show than Ireland... when RTÉ claim they have no funds for a big production?! Are Albania secretly wealthy? Is there something I don't know? :arrr:

Well, it also doubles as their national song contest, which has been going since the 60s (or possibly earlier...), so they put in some extra special oomph for it I presume :o

Nice to see Kejsi Tola win, but I am a little disappointed that Soni Malaj came 16th out of 20...do we think that Albania will translate or not? :o

They seem to have taken it in alternate years since 2005, so it's hard to say.

I think given the style of the song it will be translated but I wish they wouldn't.

Not bad the girl in the red dress looks more like a tablecloth :heehee:
Nice entry :) It's waaaay to early though - people might soon get bored of it.

Only if they listen to it all the time...it's not like it will be on the radio being forced down our throats every day.

Realistically 95% of the viewers on the night will not have heard any of the entries except for their own anyways.

Ah, I see. We had that over here for a few years. Cheap as chips, though. Thank god that didn't last. -_-

I knew all the songs for the 2008 contest. I then found the contest to be very boring. So, I'm going to have to limit the amount of songs I listen to before the contest. :P

I agree. :)

However, those of the viewers, who would actually consider voting, are fans/enjoy the competition, so they will get acquainted with the entries at an earlier point. I've noticed that even if a song is good, if the time of the announcement of the entry is not carefuly considered, the outcome for the participant is not very successful. People easily get bored - that's my opinion. :)

I disagree actually. I think of all the phone-in voting shows there are, the vast majority of the Eurovision vote actually. Even if you've not seen the songs before. It's definitely not just the hardcore fans.

Decent entry... can't see it reaching the top 15 of the final though if it gets there tbh.
Reminds me of Slovenia from this year. Loved it, but it flopped. Can't see this doing much else...
