Too bad she's working for Simon Cowell, then. Because I'm pretty sure she will be doing whatever he wants her to do.

The nice thing about Leona was that she kept her mouth shut and got on with it. Who does Alex think she is to have an opinion on the direction her career will take?!

I would like to her hear voice on some new songs but it's hard to imagine what kind of 'category' she'll fit into.

Sorry, but this bit sounds really STUPID!

She might not be able to write decent songs tho? Just because she can sing and enjoys singing doesn't mean that she is able to write songs :P

Sorry kiddo, I forgot that some people don't understand my hilarious brand of sophisticated humour. How inconsiderate of me.

In other words, it was a JOKE!

So many people have said that her mum Melissa Bell was lead singer of Soul II Soul, I thought it was Caron Wheeler who was lead singer of that group along with Jazzy B

Melissa Bell was lead singer before Caron Wheeler.

Soul II Soul had numerous lead singers - along the lines of the European dance act of the time Snap who had at least 4 lead singers

It's certainly preferable though if the artist writes their own material, surely.... I mean, sorry, but if you want to be a recording artist as badly as that lot on X-Factor claim to be, then surely they should have been writing lyrics, songs, etc at some point, even if it's just scribbling stuff down in a personal journal or diary... I mean, if music really IS such an overwhelming, consuming passion of theirs, which surely is the reason for being an artiste in the first place.....

I love watching films, doesn't mean I want to be involved in the directing or acting process :P

OK, so that's a facetious comparison but that's the way I see it. People who can sing and write are obviously super-talented, a lot of people I'm sure can only do one of those well (hence why you get songwriters who do not sing, but they get no criticism for not performing their work).

Aah thanks

I remember Caron Wheeler but didn't remember Melissa Bell

Maybe some people just don't have the knack for writing good songs though, but can sing - Alexandra could be one of those people!

aaliyah used to do that.

she said she couldn't write a decent song to save her life, so she'd sit with writers, tell them how she feels/what she wants to talk about/etc and they'd write it into a song.

i wanted her 2 win from the start, but everyweek she would do something to annoy me, the final straw was when she won. i know she got given a "big prize" but she totally over reacted, i think she should turn her talent 2 acting because every week she was crying after singing her song, ok once or twice u can believe but every week, c'mon, god, i use to think she was amazing, loved her last time she went on it but... she seems fake, and she seems she will be a total diva. remember just my opinion, i hope she comes back with a better song than her current release.

i agree leonas album as a whole was utter $h!te, but she had afew great tracks on it that saved it. i love homeless, take a bow and the singles. and i will be is okay as well.

Yeah, you're right about that, it was a slightly facetious comparison.... :P You're a spectator as far as films go, totally different... Film is a far more collaborative medium, you have literally hundreds of people involved in the production of a film... Quite often though, you find the best films are done by those who wrote and directed though, there's just a slightly higher level of intimacy there....

And also, often with "pure" songwriters, you'll find that they have actually been performers at one point, Burt Bacharach has performed, but is known more for writing, Cathy Dennis also has performed, same for Paula Abdul, and I'm sure even the likes of Lloyd Webber or Tim Rice do perform their own material at least at the rehearsal stage to get across to the actual stage performers how they want it to sound on-stage.... So, it's not as if these writers are just churning out this stuff with no real idea of how they want it to sound, songwriters often are actually pretty talented people....

If she doesn't want to sing covers, then why did she enter X Factor?! STOOOOOOOOOOOOPID IDIOT!

Because everyone knows that its probably the biggest and easiest way to get into the music industry at the moment....

But fair play to the girl. She knows what she wants to do with her career. I mean just look how many covers were on Shayne Wards and Leona Lewis' album... dont ask me about Leon Jackson cos one, i dont give two $h!ts for him and i havent heard his album...

I think it will be a bit hard for her to get her label not to give her any covers... Never mind the fact that its her debut album, the fact that she won the X Factor will mean that she will have very little creative direction in the album. Simon Cowell is going to want a hit with her and so he is going to do whatever it takes. Even if that means putting Unbreak My Heart on the album which he might probably do.

I think Simon Cowell will want big things from Alexandra as Leon didnt deliver the goods in sales terms which wont line simons pockets,,i think alex needs strong material for the album and a very strong follow up to halleluagh personnally i dont think she will do anywhere near as well as leona but i could be wrong,,for me there is something that doesnt click with me about alexandra and i felt that everytime she was on x factor although she does seem to have more of a personality than leona and i dont mean that in a bad way to leona but leona seems very shy and she is c**p at interviews i think give alex time and she will fly through interviews although she can be so annoying when she goes on about thank you i have dreamed of this all my life when she says that i feel like strangling her as every child in the country has had the same flipping dream.

The one thing i want alex to do is release a duet with Ruth Lorenzo as i so want ruth to hit the charts

The nice thing about Leona was that she kept her mouth shut and got on with it. Who does Alex think she is to have an opinion on the direction her career will take?!

Leona didn't need to say anything, she already knew long before she won the X Factor that she'd be working with all the hippest songwriters and producers on new material as Simon Cowell was already working on that and using his influence etc.

Alexandra is much more "new, undiscovered" talent - well, apart from her X Factor 2005 audition  - than Leona ever was.

She is not in Leona's league so I doubt that she has the sway over Cowell that Leona did

Alexandra is GOOD but nowhere near Leona's level vocally

I think Alex is more suited for uptempo stuff. She showed that on the X-Factor. Hope she gets some decent material. Although I think she can also pack in the soul into a big ballad.

I also think comparisons with Leona are a bit unfair. Firstly, their voices are completely different. Alex has a richer tone in my opinion, though I adore Leona's whistle range. Alex's diction is much better ;) which is strange since Leona has far more experience.

I really hope that Alex won't be promoted as "Leona Mark II". It won't work and would be really unfair to both ladies.

P.S. Having heard "Hallelujah" - and not just Alexandra's version - about 50 times in the last month, I'm totally bored with the song. :manson:

alex and leona do have diff voices. one can hit notes that the other could only ever dream of doing lol. joke. seriously, leonas voice is amazing, and alex can actual sing, shes got a great voice in fact. but 2 me, she seems way 2 fake, something about her just dont fit.
I think it's good she doesn't want to sing covers. I have a lot more respect for people who actually make their own music. By the sounds of it this is her dream and I guess she wants the full dream and do it properly. Whether the Cowell will go for it is another story.

Alex is good but just not brilliant

In that duet with Beyonce I thought at the end she was going to die through passing out she was putting so much into the end bit of the song and then there was Beyonce who was barely breaking sweat more than matching her and really holding herself back, Beyonce could have totally embarrassed Alex if she truly wanted to, it just showed that Beyonce is on a totally different level vocally and Alex will never match that

I see Alex as a British Anita Baker, can see her doing Rapture/Sweet Love type records which is more fitting in with her voice as she hasn't really got the power to take on Leona/Beyonce for example
