Posted December 22, 200816 yr YES 679 have dropped the Mystery Jets from their rosta so they're now officially without a label.
December 22, 200816 yr why they have had their most sucsessful year this year and have been critically acclamed more than the last album
December 22, 200816 yr 679 are notoriously useless. The Futureheads went the same way and came back with their best album yet on their own label. These 'major indie' labels like 679 and B-Unique are pretty useless really.
December 22, 200816 yr :o They've been dropped?! WHY? Well according to posters before me, it doesn't seem like it matters too much, but it's still a shame.
December 23, 200816 yr Author ^ They've been dropped I believe for two reasons: firstly due to disappointing album sales and secondly as 679 want to put their full attention/funding behind Little Boots for 2009...
December 23, 200816 yr Considering how the first two singles did considering their quality and promotion their album didn't really do too well...
December 25, 200816 yr 679 are notoriously useless. The Futureheads went the same way and came back with their best album yet on their own label. These 'major indie' labels like 679 and B-Unique are pretty useless really. tho i guess as Sire, Elektra and Asylum Records also would have been once 'indie' or 'major indie' labels before being taken over by Warners (or maybe seven arts-warner or time-warner)...maybe they are not always such a bad thing!!! ...and i guess if woolworth's problems doesnt harm their/bbc JV too much hopefully 100 Hits of Indie will come out with loads of 679 and factory stuff... well i suppose warner still has its Transgressive deal in place though maybe Warners should bring back Geoff Travis' Blanco y Negro or Alan McGee's Elevation Records imprint for you:lol: btw the thing with 679...It said Cut Off Your Hands has been dropped as well - and i dont think their album has been issued over here yet...
February 2, 200916 yr Author They've resigned to Rough Trade. Proper Indie ways now I'd have thought, RT don't have much pushing money...
February 2, 200916 yr That's great news for them. Super Furry Animals had a bit of a resurgence after rejoining an indie - and Rough Trade are, Domino besides, possibly the best indie label out there.
February 2, 200916 yr Author ^ Oh I agree they are a good label and the right place to be. My point was more that they can expect an end to proper mainstream success now I'd have thought as RT don't have the funds to afford R1 playlisting etc Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...
February 2, 200916 yr They had no chance of 'mainstream success' now anyway...I guess that's 679's cruel, businesslike rationale - if a song as ace as 'Two Doors Down' can't get them in the Top 10 then they never will be. With Rough Trade they'll be looked after and will be able to dictate their career to a greater degree. If only more 'indie' acts realised this instead of signing megabucks deals with the first major that comes along.
