4. WIZZARD - "I WISH IT COULD BE CHRISTMAS EVERYDAY"

http://i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/0a/7e/190b_1.JPG

Entered chart w/e 8/12/73

Reached No.4 w/e 22/12/73

Weeks on chart : 9

Reissues/re-entries : 1981 (41), 1984 (23), 2007 (downloads, 16)

Full credit : Wizzard, vocal backing by the Suedettes, plus the Stockland Green Bilateral School First Choir, additional noises: Miss Snob and Class 3C.

Absolutely timeless! I know it had Slade to compete with, but I still can't believe it ended up stuck at No.4 behind Gary Glitter and the New Seekers!

Other festive No.4s :

The Goons - "I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas" (June 1956)

Adam Faith - "Lonely Pup (In A Christmas Shop)" (1960)

John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir - "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" (original issue, 1972)

Dana - "It's Gonna Be A Cold Cold Christmas" (1975)

Mr Hankey - "Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo" (1999)

Bo Selecta - "Proper Crimbo" (2003)

i agree neil, possibly THE best crimbo song ever although the pogues/kirsty mac coll seem to be the fashionable one to like.

was it woodys best?.... (as wizzard), dunno, i like 'ball park incident' and 'see my baby jive' and the latter i think was his best.

mr hankey .... i cant have a dump on crimbo morning without laughing and expecting a 'howdy ho' from out the pan!

'proper crimbo' is imho the best crimbo track for many years.

Eoghan Quigg has tarnished the song badly now though :(

Great Xmas song though but Eoghan has removed some of the magic from it with his embarrassing cover of it in the X Factor final

I love Dana's song but it's never played and never appears on compilations like Now Xmas. :(

I think the box set of the Move would be good to listen to...tho i guess could be criticized for inventing the electric light orchestra...which is not a good thing...

unlike The Goons - "I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas" which is class!!

I quite like the Dana one. Considering it got to No.4, it's surprising it's never played.

Though they're novelty records, Mr Hankey & Proper Crimbo are two of the christmas songs in years. Mr Hankey always cracks me up
