http://cdn.7static.com/static/img/sleeveart/00/000/490/0000049034_350.jpg

Entered chart w/e 5/12/87

Reached No.2 w/e 26/12/87

Weeks on chart : 9

Reissues/re-entries : 1991 (No.36), 2005 (No.3), 2006 (No.6), 2007 (No.4)

Once we got to the mid-'80s it seemed like there would never be another great Christmas record, but then along came this classic!

Hard to believe now that it was held off the Xmas No.1 spot by the decidedly non-festive "Always On My Mind" by the Pet Shop Boys, though I didn't mind at the time as I liked them both. I was just glad it wasn't Rick Astley :D

Other festive No.2s (leave it!) :

The Wombles - "Wombling Merry Christmas" (1974)

Greg Lake - "I Believe In Father Christmas" (1975)

John & Yoko etc - "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" (1980)

Wham! - "Last Christmas" (1984)

Bros - "Silent Night" (1988)

Mariah Carey - "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (1994)

The Darkness - "Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)" (2003)

Cliff Richard - "21st Century Christmas" (2006)

tbh this is another one im getting tired off.... and it isnt a crimbo record...its a record that mentions crimbo...

greg lake... now thats a goiod un...its an anti crimbo, crimbo track. or as close as you can get

lines like

'they sold me a dream of christmas

they sold me a silent night

they sold me a fairey story

till i believed in the israelite

they said thered be snow at christmas

i looked to the sky with excited eyes

i woke with a yawn at the first light of dawn

and i saw him and through his disguise'

I like the song but it is not really an xmas song merely a song that happens to mention xmas in it

Frankie Goes To Hollywood seems to be all about Vampires and scary folks with hoody claws...and is always played at christmas even tho it was a big summer trance record!!!

maybe one year Miss otis regrets - Just one of those things by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl will get some airplay instead?!?!? ...i prefer this!!!!
