The car mounted the pavement, striking two men and the shopfront

Two men and a woman have been injured in a crash which saw a car hit a Woolworths storefront in Devon.

A Nissan Micra driven by a 77-year-old woman from Dousland, near Yelverton, hit the men before going into a shop window in Brook Street, Tavistock.

A 46-year-old man from near Gunnislake, Cornwall, suffered chest bruising.

The second man, a 63-year-old from Cheltenham, was airlifted to hospital with a suspected fractured femur. The driver received minor injuries.

None of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening.

The car mounted the pavement outside the shop and struck the two men who were in the street before hitting the front of the shop, causing damage to a display window, police said.

An empty VW Passat parked nearby was also damaged in the incident.

Police, two ambulances and two fire crews were dispatched to the scene.

The 46-year-old man, from Sevenstones, near Gunnislake, was taken to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital by land ambulance.

The 63-year-old was airlifted by the Devon Air Ambulance, which landed on the Tavistock Parish Church green.

The store was closed on health and safety grounds because of the damaged window.

Brook Street was completely closed and vehicles were turned away from Duke Street for about two hours.

The Woolworths store had been due to shut on 27 December after the company went into administration.

This happened literally around the corner from my work. I was working. And don't worry, I'm fine.
