Bruce Springsteen (such a strong low voice)

Zack De La Rocha (nice bit of hip-hop style lyrics but in a alternative metal sense)

Trent Reznor (an underated powerful voice)

Corey Taylor (some of the songs on the new Slipknot album and most stone sour songs his voice is amazing)

Tom Gabel (very strong punk rock voice)

Chester Bennington (like Linkin Park or not, you cant say he doesnt have some amazing vocal cords)

Tim Armstrong (great raspy voice)

Anneke Van something... from "The Gathering" (a Dutch Band, search it!)

Mikael Akerfeldt from "Opeth"!!!

I'm not a fan of Within Temptation.

My favourite vocalists are Robert Plant, Steven Tyler & Bruce Dickinson, also Jonathan Davis I think is an awesome singer.

@ Chris - I agree about Chester Bennington, he's good impressive range.

his vocals on 'Given Up' are too amazing, he definatly has genuine talent when it comes to singing/shouting.

Axl Rose and Sebastian Bach are undisputed kings of that whole sleazy, high-pitched hard-rock sound.

The master of classic metal vocals - Bruce Dickinson.

And simply for their incredible range - Mikael Akerfelt and Phil Anselmo.

as much as i hate Axl Rose, he does have an amazing voice, espcially at hitting those high notes. Bach is good to.

I like Sebastians voice, but it's not that good.

I think Axl is a good + bad vocalist. He can't sing, but sometimes what comes out of his mouth on the right track really works, and makes him look like he's got a brilliant voice. Although, his voice is brilliant on all the Appetite album tracks.

Surprised no one has said Freddie Mercury yet. :o Out of all the lists I've looked for examples on google to post in here, he's #1 in almost all of them.

Isn't Tim Armstrong the singer in Operation IVY? One of my favourite vocalists is Chino (cant remember his name)? from deftones but thats when hes singing rather than shouting.

he didnt sing in operation Ivy (well maybe backing vocals) he is the frontman of Rancid now.

i know who you mean from deftones, 'BAAAACK TOOO SCHOOOOOL' amazing shouting.

No not because they're both dutch. But symph and female metal is really one sided - Within Temptation and Nightwish. All these others started up like The Gathering, Epica etc hoping to gain some of WT and NW's limelight. They are not a touch on WT but they are quite good imo. . They could at least be more original than being a success sponge. I doubt without WT, NW and Evanescence. The Gathering wouldnt have nearly as much success. .

How the hell Gathering's success shows lack of originality? WTF?

The Gathering is quite original imo. Listen to the semi-acoustic live album in 2005? 04?

I think Axl has a superb range for being a hard-rock vocalist; like compare his vocals in 'It's So Easy' to the high-notes in 'Nightrain'. Or just listen to the new track 'This I Love', and the high-note he hits in 'IRS', which is probably his best ever vocal work.

Forgot about Freddy Mercry, he definitely has to be up there. Incredible range and just a fantastic clean singing voice.

Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio)

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)

Joey Belladonna (ex Anthrax)

Chuck Billy (Testament)

Serj Tankian (System Of A Down)

Tom Araya (Slayer)

There my faves
