Posted January 7, 200916 yr and after 10 years managing burton, nijel clough follows in his dads footsteps and has taken on the management job at derby country. tbh im surprised its taken so long!!!! nigel has hell of a job to do, will he ressurect derbys fading fortunes in the way his dad did?... tbh i doubt it.
January 7, 200916 yr Well he certainly won't do what Brian did, purely because football has changed so much since the early 70s. Although Burton are top of the Conferance by some distance the job he's done there hasn't been quite as good as it appears. He's been there 10 seasons, guided them to one(?) promotion and have a bigger budget than a lot of sides in the same league. He did previously say he'd never move as he wanted his kids to be settled in their schools in the local area. They're obviously a lot older now so it's not so much of a priority. I do think his name was the main reason he was appointed but it could be a pretty shrewd move.... As a Forest fan I naturally want him to succeed but if he fails with Derby I won't mind as A) Derby have failed and B.) We're not going to appoint him ourselves and him risk losing his legend status.
January 7, 200916 yr No way will be do what Brian did. He's nowhere near as good. Burton aren't even that good a side. They've got to where they were through their FA Cup run a few years back, and a good cup run helps BSP teams MASSIVELY (look at Exeter too). It's taken Clough 10 years to get promoted with Burton, and they're only where they are because pretty much every other team in the BSP are either terrible, or make shockingly bad errors.
January 8, 200916 yr Clough is a smug c**t and I'd just love to smack him in the face. I hope/and think he'll fail miserably at Derby. He had a £1million budget at Burton, and although he had assembled a good side, it's not exactly hard when you can pay players £0000's a week for playing PART-TIME (most teams are full-time). Credit obviously goes for the cup-run they had but still. It'll be a big step up and he's in at the deep end, as well he's a "family comes first" man, can see him walking away if there is too much stress/doing badly.
January 8, 200916 yr  Derby 1 - 0 Utd, granted he doesn't start tomorrow, but that should be a good place to start from
January 8, 200916 yr I do hope Burton Albion mess up their season now though, and are doomed to spend forever playing Blue Square Premier football.
January 8, 200916 yr Author brians talent (along with peter taylor) was their ability to get the most out of second rate players. although i live in derby, to me clough/taylors greatest triumphs were at forest, which really sticks in derby fans throats. i think its unlikely that nigel has his fathers unique talent.
January 8, 200916 yr Nigel Clough will do NOWHERE near as good as Brian Clough. After seeing his former team play numerous times I can tell you that.
