January 8, 200916 yr Sorry i'm confused guys... Is the HIT40UK The OFFICIAL CHART? Like the chart on Radio 1? Well if it is then this could be a bad idea for some artists. I've got a prime example as Sugababes were 60 something last week on itunes and managed to peak at 23 on Official Chart because of physicals. So this happening can't be a good thing can it? By the way...is this including albums??? Because dont physical albums still sell like hot cakes..... Edited January 8, 200916 yr by Scoobyh1
January 8, 200916 yr Hit40UK is a rival chart show which is broadcast on commercial radio at the same time as the official chart is counted down on Radio 1. At present the Top 10 is sales only and is identical to the official Top 10 but positions 11 to 40 are a mix of sales and airplay on the stations which carry the Hit40UK show
January 8, 200916 yr According to Dave Taylor it’s going to be downloads only and he’s usually in the know about these things… If they’re combining downloads with airplay I don’t see the point because removing physicals won’t have much of an effect, as sales would only comprise half the chart! Would the top10 still be the official top10? If not it’s a step backwards which will backfire and put Fern and Reggie in an unlikely stronger position! :puke:
January 8, 200916 yr I don't know if I can say this, but I've heard that they're going too, around the same time that the OCC removes physicals...
January 8, 200916 yr I don't know if I can say this, but I've heard that they're going too, around the same time that the OCC removes physicals... EDIT. Hmmm perhaps I’ve misunderstood what your said since no one else has commented! Are the OCC actually planning to remove physical sales completely from the official chart or is Hit40UK just being downloads only or both? January 8, 200916 yr Much as I'd like the airplay removed the official Hit40UK says otherwise! http://www.hit40uk.com/blog/articles/22897.html
January 8, 200916 yr Regarding the airplay issue..... If they remove airplay... great it'll be downloads only and as close to the official chart as it is possible to get If they don't remove airplay......it will be more or less as it is now. The minimal physical sales won't make a great deal of difference The report on the hit40uk website can be found here >>> http://www.hit40uk.com/blog/articles/22897.html
January 8, 200916 yr EDIT. Hmmm perhaps I’ve misunderstood what your said since no one else has commented! Are the OCC actually planning to remove physical sales completely from the official chart or is Hit40UK just being downloads only or both? After several re-reads I think he meant that Fearne & Reggie would be removed! :)

By the way...is this including albums??? Because dont physical albums still sell like hot cakes..... The Sugababes are not a prime example, because you have based it on the iTunes chart only. There are more download sites than iTunes. When you put all the download sales of all sites together Sugababes were still 25 in the Official Download top 40. This was the Official Download Chart for last Sunday: 40 Ting Tings - That`s Not My Name 39 Girls Aloud - Loving Kind 38 Heartless - Kanye West 37 MGMT - Kids 36 Duffy - Rain On Your Parade 35 Ne-Yo - Mad 34 Script - Man Who Can`t 33 Beyonce - Listen 32 Coldplay - Viva La Vida 31 Dizzee Rascal - Dance Wiv Me 30 X Factor - Hero 29 Rihanna - Disturbia 28 Up - Saturdays 27 Love Lockdown - Kanye 26 Issues - Saturdays 25 No Can Do - Sugababes 24 Rehab - Rihanna] 23 Get Up - 50 Cent 22 Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley 21 Break Even - Script 20 I Hate This Part - Pussycat Dolls 19 I Kissed A Girl - Katy P 18 Infinity - Guru Josh 17 So What - Pink 16 Right Now - Akon 15 Boy Does Nothing - Alesha 14 Promise - Girls Aloud 13 Single Ladies - Beyonce 12 T.I. - Live Your Life 11 Greatest Day - Take That 10 Sex On Fire 09 Womanizer - Britney Spears 08 Killers - Human 07 Hot N`Cold - Katy P 06 Use Somebody 05 James Morrison - Broken Strings 04 Beyonce - If I Were 03 Just Dance - Lady Gaga 02 Run - Leona 01 Hallelujah - Alexandra Spot the differences then! There are not many! Kevin Rudolf is the only artist missing, and he figured at 41 anyway... It seems that Radio Stations have got their wires crossed here, because Capital Radio (headquarters of Hit40uk) say they will still use airplay in the 11-40, and the top 10 will be downloads only. It won`t match the Radio One Chart in any form. XFM say it won`t use airplay at all...but I would believe Capital as they run the chart anyway. It won`t include Albums. But Lucio runs down the top ten Albums ahead of the top ten anyway. To sum up, I shouldn`t expect a major difference to last week`s Hit40uk. It look`s like it will still be a farce, if Capital do know what they are actually doing. Instead of confusing other Radio Stations like XFM. I can`t comment on Fearne And Reggie anymore, but would say that their 2 Year contract expires in October.
January 9, 200916 yr After several re-reads I think he meant that Fearne & Reggie would be removed! :) Sorry, yes that is what I meant...

Though it seems to be something people find hard to believe on here... sure it won't include albums, they are still 90-95% physical sales :) The Sugababes are not a prime example, because you have based it on the iTunes chart only. Thanks to all who answered my earlier musings :D
January 14, 200916 yr It seems that Radio Stations have got their wires crossed here, because Capital Radio (headquarters of Hit40uk) say they will still use airplay in the 11-40, and the top 10 will be downloads only. It won`t match the Radio One Chart in any form. XFM say it won`t use airplay at all...but I would believe Capital as they run the chart anyway. It won`t include Albums. But Lucio runs down the top ten Albums ahead of the top ten anyway. Can I ask, what is the point of having downloads and airplay for part of the chart and only downloads for the top 10???? It seems completely pointless and makes the chart pointless - just take airplay out altogether!
January 14, 200916 yr Airplay is the one thing that has remained constant since the show started off as the Network Chart in the 80s. It also provides an incentive to the radio stations that air it, as people will hear the songs that they listen to at other times of day, rather than things that are mostly played on Radio 1 etc. which means listeners will stay with it.
January 14, 200916 yr Ok, so keep the airplay in for the whole chart, but why do they need to divide it so the top 10 is solely downloads and 11-40 includes airplay?
January 14, 200916 yr Is that what they're doing? I'm not sure. I guess it's because their top 10 was tradionally sales only...
