It was to celebrate his birthday.

 

Thanks Mark It's testament to how great Elvis was, that almost 32 years after his death, Elvis' birthday is still newsworthy :cheer:

Graceland CEO Jack Soden was delighted to see so many fans in front of Graceland for the Birthday Celebration. "We never had so many fans visiting us on this special day", he said. On behalf of the city of Memphis and Shelby County, mayor Wharton (see picture) declared this day "Elvis Presley Day". With so many fans visiting Graceland in 2009, one can only imagine how big the crowd will be next year, when the world celebrates Elvis's 75th anniversary.
