Thoughts to Kylie at 20...and even Clubbers Guide at 22. Hopefully the shops may improve further with new release material. Could 2009 see a rise in Album Downloads? Maybe. A fair bunch of seasonal sounds hanging about with JASON DONOVAN, JIVE BUNNY...and New Year takes for ANDY STEWART`s 1960 hit, and DEACON BLUE`s "QUEEN OF THE NEW YEAR". NEW KIDS having 2 hits in the top 20. MADONNA went about as seasonal as she could..."Pink Elephants and lemonade" was that the right combination? We usually get those pink elephants through something stronger! DE LA SOUL got a double A with "THE MAGIC NUMBER" coupled with "BUDDY" on the other side. We took the the LAMBADA into the New Year. ELECTRONIC featured the combo of New Order, and Neil Tennant. SILVER BULLET gave us something completely different, slightly on the House side. ROB N`RAZ joined LEILA K on the dancefloor. SONIA was still churning out those SAW productions sounding like KYLIE, RICK ASTLEY, CLIFF RICHARD...You name it! SYDNEY YOUNGBLOOD had a well played song, but it couldn`t match "If Only I Could". LATION RAVE gave a mix of House hits. 49ERS sounded like BLACKBOX. MANTONIX joined WONDRESS for another dancefloor hit. TINA TURNER was losing on the loving side. QUIREBOYS should have been bigger. LINDA AND AARON stalewarts in long running got a number 2 hit. FISH came out of MARILLION for a number of minor hits. BIG FUN could have been in the running for the next JIMMY SOMERVILLE, as JIMMY covered SYLVESTER another gay icon. D MOB nicked an old song, and joined up with NUFF JUICE. ERASURE were beginning to sound samey. ALEXANDER O`NEAL gave a hitmix. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD`s comeback was ending...another gay icon. HAPPY MONDAYS re-entered, as HALO JAMES looked a hot tip, but plunged into obscuirity. We had the grest STONE ROSES. The late LUTHER VANDROSS (once the lead singer with Change in the 80s. CLIFF back for his 2nd hit in the 40 with VAN MORRISON (formerly of THEM). It was small hits for BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, BON JOVI, DURAN DURAN, BELINDA CARLISLE, and ELECTRA. A super line up with QUINCY JONES, RAY CHARLES, and CHAKA KHAN was just to good to be big..as UB40 covered the CHI-LITES 1974 top 10 hit "HOMELY GIRL", and didn`t change much from the original, although the Chi-lites win standing upside down! Why did UB40 have to start nicking everybody elses songs? The SHAKIN STEVENS/DAVE EDMUNDS of the 90s! The top albums in Jan 1990: 01 01 BUT SERIOUSLY - PHIL COLLINS 02 04 ENJOY YOURSELF - KYLIE 03 03 FOREIGN AFFAIR - TINA TURNER 04 05 TEN GOOD REASONS - JASON DONOVAN 05 02 THE ALBUM - JIVE BUNNY 06 27 HANGIN TOUGH - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK 07 14 BEST OF - ROD STEWART 08 09 ROAD TO HELL - CHRIS REA 09 06 NOW THAT`S WHAT I CALL MUSIC 16 - VARIOUS 10 11 AFFECTION - LISA STANSFIELD 11 RE CLUB CLASSICS VOL. 1 - SOUL II SOUL 12 10 MONSTER HITS - VARIOUS 13 07 HOLDING BACK THE RIVER - WET WET WET 14 RE LIKE A PRAYER - MADONNA 15 12 CUTS BOTH WAYS - GLORIA ESTEFAN 16 17 GREATEST HITS OF THE 80s - VARIOUS 17 16 LEVEL BEST - LEVEL 42 18 18 WILD - ERASURE 19 NE 3 FEET HIGH AND RISING - DE LA SOUL 20 13 SPARK TO A FLAME - CHRIS DE BURGH 21 24 DECADE - DURAN DURAN 22 20 RAW AND THE COOKED - FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS 23 29 A NEW FLAME - SIMPLY RED 24 21 LABOUR OF LOVE II - UB40 25 38 2X2 - MILLI VANILLI 26 15 STRONGER - CLIFF RICHARD 27 25 DEEP HEAT 89 - VARIOUS 28 22 ADDICTIONS VOL. 1 - ROBERT PALMER 29 28 SENSUAL WORLD - KATE BUSH 30 40 STORM FRONT - BILLY JOEL So, in the albums 19 years ago...PHIL COLLINS was on his 6th week at the top. KYLIE had already been there in October 1989. TINA TURNER had been to number 2 in 1989, too. JASON DONOVAN managed to go up and down throughout 1989, and well into 1990. JIVE BUNNY did not get to the top...thankfully!! :teresa: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK went way, way high with their album as 1989/90 was definately their peak. ROD STEWART wouldn`t go away any year. We all have great admiration for Rod, so why do those damn Radio Stations always play "MAGGIE MAY?" CHRIS REA was still driving down the M25. NOW 16 was the current NTWICM series. LISA STANSFIELD was doing good, 1989 very good for her...although she slip a bit into 1990. MONSTER HITS gave us another Compilation. WET WET WET were still on form...infact all the way from 1987-94. MADONNA re-climbed. The 80s were getting their tribute as the decade ended with "THE GREATEST HITS OF THE 80s". LEVEL 42 gave us their best. CHRIS BURGH gave us his best with only a handful of singles! DURAN DURAN celebrated their decade of releases...Remember early Duran Duran around 79/80 with STEPHEN TIN TIN DUFFY? FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS were begining to dry up, but 1985-89 were good for them. SIMPLY RED went on, and on! MILLI VANILLI were still not singing on their records. CLIFF RICHARD was STRONGER, not his biggest but a top ten album anyway. DEEP HEAT gave us those dancey trancey house hits. KATE BUSH, and ROBERT PALMER had problems, and BILLY JOEL sraped the top ten, dropped out and sneaked back again. Coming soon...The Brand New Up To Minute Singles Chart, and exclusive Physical Chart....

January 9, 200916 yr Kid Cudi slipped in pre-orders! :o Hopefully 'The Loving Kind' is now heading for a Top 5!
January 9, 200916 yr Not a lot I can say about this week's chart its very slow moving. I'm beginning to feel physical singles are waning quite a bit.
January 9, 200916 yr Not a lot I can say about this week's chart its very slow moving. I'm beginning to feel physical singles are waning quite a bit. Definitely the woolworths impact.
January 9, 200916 yr Thanks Dave, great as ever. Looking forward to taking the reins from you for a little while ;)
January 9, 200916 yr Author Definitely the woolworths impact. Yes, and not a lot of high street stores left to actually go out and buy singles from. Although you of course can order them at various sites on-line. HMV the only major high street store left then! And I do predict albums, to head that way too...in the long term future. Woolworths sponsored the Hit40uk chart in recent years too!
January 9, 200916 yr Have a good break Dave and thanks for all the hard work - remember to take a wee drop of something warming with you, this cold snap could be around for a while yet !
January 9, 200916 yr Author Is Kid Cudi doing a simultaneous digital and physical release? I believe so. Some are saying "Flop", but pre-orders show top 30 status for it, at least.
January 9, 200916 yr Author Considering the way it's been hyped, top 30 WOULD be a flop... I know Tom, but those pre-orders have dropped off a bit. Was it not down 9 places on the Fresh Hits Chart...
January 9, 200916 yr Now That Sats are at #3 on itunes and gaining on JM..It is possible they could take #5.. The sales should increase a little after a fantastic performance on Loose women. I don't understand where KOL are getting the sales from to hold at #5 tbh.
January 9, 200916 yr Shall we end with the top pre-orders? The Singles: 01 LOVING KIND - GIRLS ALOUD 12th This bodes well :D

I don't understand where KOL are getting the sales from to hold at #5 tbh. Other Download sites! Saturdays are about 1,500 behind the Kings at the moment. Though we must remember Use Somebody was not a top 5 physical hit, and Issues is!
