January 17, 200916 yr Put it this way: Britney Spears Womanizer entered the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart at fifty-nine with three days of its radio release alone. So to compare after three days of Radio Airplay My Life Would Suck Without You was at fourty-one (& now at #37). As a result Britney's Womanizer debuted at #96 on the Billlboard Top 100, but the following week when the digital release & video were made available it jumped up to #1 on the Billboard Top 100. Kelly Clarkson's single is released digitally 19/01 in the USA in time for a full week's worth of sales data. Anyone who still thinks this song is going to fail to reach at least the US Top 5 is going to look very silly IMHO. I’m not questioning and I don’t think anyone else has the fact that it’s an American radio smash and given that airplay is part of the Billboard Hot100 that’s pretty obvious. I’ve only been talking about the UK chart and that’s a different proposition...

January 17, 200916 yr no way. It what way is it rubbish. Clive and her management team wanted f*** all to do with the album/tour/singles. Kelly handled the promotion stuff herself. The MD era was an INCREDIBLE one. The fact that Kelly had little promotion and launched ONE single which didnt exactly do huge things for the era and still managed to sell over a million is REALLY good. You just overestimate everything. You tend to look at things as a whole instead of gathering up all the little things and see how they led up to the whole. Also the tour done amazingly. All the rumours about falling ticket sales were utter crap. The date that i went to was filled with people. Typical fanatical excuses don’t change the fact it only sold 1/12th of the amount of Breakaway did. All very subjective but not very objective… ;)
January 17, 200916 yr I fail to see how anyone could see the safest, most obvious smash hit for a while (and will probably stay so for the rest of this year...) could go anything OTHER than top 5, if not number one.

All very subjective but not very objective… ;) Ugh, the lack of promotion for the album = the lack of sales. MD was the album that Kelly wanted to make. The label didnt like it. If the label dont like it they wont promote it. Trashlexis, its his obvious ambition to try and be different from the rest :drama: Edited January 17, 200916 yr by Joao Filipe

January 17, 200916 yr How is that relevant to the UK SINGLES CHART dare I ask? Its got to let off some light bulb up in that skull of yours? No? Oh dear.
January 17, 200916 yr Typical fanatical excuses don’t change the fact it only sold 1/12th of the amount of Breakaway did. All very subjective but not very objective… ;) As someone who isn't a particularly big Kelly Clarkson fan, and thought the whole project horrendously mis-handled (for a start, the absolute howler that came with giving up on Sober so quickly), I fail to see how an album managing a million worldwide with just ONE single is a failure? Granted, a pretty unimpressive follow-up, but it was hardly a massive flop... And I think what Joao is trying to get at with those figures is the fact that it was such an instant radio smash - name an artist/song (not ones that obviously aren't going to do well over here, like Lil Wayne -_-) that managed to break out so massively on US radio and not go top 5 over here.

January 17, 200916 yr Its got to let off some light bulb up in that skull of yours? WTF? Please make sure your sentences actually make sense, you've only written the one so it shouldn't be too hard.
January 17, 200916 yr WTF? Please make sure your sentences actually make sense, you've only written the one so it shouldn't be too hard. Stop trying to change the fact that you are wrong with your prediction by taking a dig at my intelligence. And btw, the sentence which you read is known as a metaphor. We learn about them in year 5 little boy. And yes i am patronising you. Would you like an e-cookie? Edited January 17, 200916 yr by Joao Filipe

The original point was that IF Kelly Clarkson released a SINGLE in the UK without any promotion then it would flop. Just as many other bigger stars have found out over the years. Luckily she is promoting MLWSWOY so that’s not an issue. Yes it’s fair enough to argue that My December was a comparative flop to Breakaway although 1 million worldwide is hardly impressive. The American airplay link is tentative not conclusive. We shall see when MLWSWOY enters the chart... :)

I only remember a performance on American Idol which in the UK only gets a few hundred thousand viewers. So it mainly did rely on airplay and video play. Edited January 17, 200916 yr by Joao Filipe

January 17, 200916 yr Ok would it become a fact if me and the majority of the board say that you are foolish for believing that it wont chart higher than your predicition? Ooops look at that. I think they do.. And FYI you are talking to the student with an A grade in English and two A* in Media which requires a talent for writing so bugger ye off. I do think times have changed since 2007 you only have to look at the number of artist top10 runs that have ended in the last year or so to know that now downloads are over 90% of the market even your favourite artist would struggle to make the charts without promo whether you like to admit it or not as the case may be.
