The greatest, best selling and most influential act of the rock era. The reason why America & the rest of the world is always interested in the next big thing out of the UK.

Career Defining Song: (This is mission impossible but.....I'll have to go with Sir Paul McCartney & Yoko Ono's selection)

Four other Key Songs:

She Loves You (1963 UK#1 USA#1 - The best selling single in the UK during the 1960s)

Yesterday (1965 USA#1; 1976 UK#8 - The most covered song in the history of popular music)

All You Need Is Love (1967 UK#1 USA#1)

Hey Jude (1968 UK#1 USA#1 - The best selling single in the USA during the 1960s)

Do you think The Beatles are the best act in music history or are you like Simon Cowell and think they are "overrated .... and prefer the Monkees & Hermans Hermits"?

Did Simon actually say that? The Beatles are obviously legends, and they're one of few bands I can think of where their album tracks and B-sides are often as famous as the singles. That said, Sergeant Pepper is overrarted (The White Album too a little bit), my two faves are Rubber Soul and Revolver. The sad thing about them (apart from their being only two left now) is that their catalogue is badly neglected - the current editions of their albums on CD are hissy and badly remixed/remastered. Hopefully 2009 will be the year that their catalogue becomes available digitially and gets the remastering it deserves.

By the way, my favourite song:

Wss only really a fan of their later stuff

Back In The USSR

Helter Skelter

Revolution

Those are my faves of theirs

Others I like are

Rocky Racoon

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Lady Madonna

Come Together

the beatles were/are still the greatest ever pop group this country/the world has ever seen and ever will.... like them or not. nuff said.

Spot on.

There are too many songs by them that I like so I won't name them all, suffice to say the ones you(TIP) mentioned all have a place in popular music history.

13 studio albums in just 8 years!. All number ones and best sellers.

7 of those in just 4 years! whilst almost continual touring at the same time.

The first 2 albums occupied the number one slot in the UK albums chart for nearly a whole year!

They were number one in the albums chart for almost 50% of the time between 1962 and 1970.

And thats just a few of the amazing chart statistics of The Beatles.

Phenominal work rate.

And the musical advancements!

From 'Love me do' to 'Tomorrow never knows' in just 4 years. Astonishing musical progress!.

........ and its not just the phenominal output they had, but the quality of their ever changing material... ground breaking, inovative, classic.
