Posted January 19, 200916 yr I have really got into this band recently, does anyone else like them? It is basically Alec Empire's old band who made 'Digital Hardcore' it's pretty heavy stuff, this could go in dance but i think it fit's here more seeing as you dont really get similar bands in the Dance forum :/ they are quite punk though so.. here is a sypnosis about them: Atari Teenage Riot (abbreviated ATR) was a German digital hardcore group formed in Berlin in 1992. Highly political, they fused anarchist, anti-fascist and anti-Nazi views with punk vocals and the newly emerging techno sound called digital hardcore, which is a term band member Alec Empire used as the name of his record label. Here is a video of when they caused a riot at a anti-NATO protest in Berlin: _ab7Dksqfnw and here are some awesome tunes by them: Revolution Action hkb3r9filcM Atari Teenage Riot 6o5v2E20jKg
January 20, 200916 yr ATR were pretty awesome actually.... A great melding of Punk Rock and Techno... It's easy to focus on Alec Empire, but dont forget about Hanin Elias, she's done some pretty good solo stuff.... Nic Endo did an album as well.... Empire was also doing some instrumental, experimental drum 'n' bass stuff pre-ATR....
January 20, 200916 yr Kinda interesting but bit boring, same as HORSE The Band, a "Nintendocore" band. :D

Kinda interesting but bit boring, same as HORSE The Band, a "Nintendocore" band. :D yeah except there no nintendocore and they arent gimmicky like that  and also were before HORSE The Band. dont really see them as boring though  unless you mean boring as they just do what HORSE the band do, which would make HTB boring seeing as ATR were around way before them.
January 20, 200916 yr yeah except there no nintendocore and they arent gimmicky like that  and also were before HORSE The Band. of course, they aren't nintendocore. they're earlier? never knew that. dont really see them as boring though  unless you mean boring as they just do what HORSE the band do, which would make HTB boring seeing as ATR were around way before them. Yeah, something like ATR = HTB when it comes to boredom, regardless the time they were present. It may be an interesting genre but the songs were bit/quite boring, only few were the proper ones. January 21, 200916 yr Kinda interesting but bit boring, same as HORSE The Band, a "Nintendocore" band. :D I dont think you can really describe ATR as "nintendocore", it's definitely "Digital Hard-Core", Empire himself came up with that concept.... ATR were never really gimmicky as Chris says, they were pretty serious about what they did, even though they could be playful as well.... I somehow doubt the likes of Mad Capsule Markets (who shamelessly rip off ATR) or HORSE would really have the guts to incite a full-scale riot the way ATR/Empire did.....
January 21, 200916 yr As usual Grimly is correct - ATR formed about 20 years ago when Nintendo were still getting excited about the first inception of Super Mario Brothers and Tetris was about to make their chunky Fisher Price-style handheld essential. For the record I got really into them in 1993 but haven't cared much about them for a while. Saw them live in 1999 at King Tut's - at least I think I did!

I saw them about mid-90s... A totally BRUTAL gig in Glasgow..... It was just fukkin' nuts.... I came out of that one with some serious bruises..... Fukkin' great gig though.....
January 22, 200916 yr isnt King Tut's tiny? that would have been mental. from what i've seen/heard ATR are a bit like Rage Against The Machine live (i.e mental). King Tuts (or King Tut's Wah Wah Hut as it was known....) is indeed tiny, but a great venue for getting "up close and personal" with a band.... There are no lard-ass security goons to stop you from stage diving.... Or at least there weren't, haven't been there in years.....

January 23, 200916 yr you have described the perfect gig. No doubt one of the reasons why King Tut's (Wah Wah Hut) is consistently named the best music venue in the UK. Yes, it is rather small - haven't been to a gig there for years either, but did pop into the bar after My Bloody Valentine last summer.
April 25, 200916 yr I'm actually off to see Alec Empire next Friday, Camden Underworld... The Underworld's a very similar sort of venue to King Tuts..... Small, intimate, intense atmosphere when you get the right band onstage.... Looking forward to it....
