"What's not to like?"

I'm a BIG Gavin & Stacey fan but I never did enjoy that part very much. Over-long and not especially funny...

I wonder how many people seeing the recent PCD tour have left after the support Lady GaGa and are only really there to see her?

How humiliating that you're touring the country with a support act who's now far, far bigger than yourselves...is number one... and whose name, not yours, is on everyones' lips. I bet the PCD are rueing their decision on the support

Not many? PCD's tour has had surprisingly good reviews and was selling very well before it was even announced that GaGa was a support act. And why would they be rueing their decision? It's ensured every show is sold out which means more cash for them.

argee with aaron.... like it or not scott, the saturdays ARE gaining in support.

Does that make the music any less sh!t.....? No, it just means more people being daft enough to believe the hype.....

ISo blame Vince Clarke.

Ah, so it's old Vince looking to embarrass the Mighty DM when they're about to release a new album in a couple of months.....

The bitter old queen.....

Funny, I was thinking the same thing... I mean, surely Lady GaGa supporting a group as uttely rancid as PCD is a bit like Led Zeppelin or Metallica supporting The Darkness.....

At least they're not doing Enjoy The Silence.

GAWD, just about everyone has done a cover of that one.....

There are certain acts who can do Depeche Mode justice (Lacuna Coil, Goldfrapp, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park being examples), The Saturdays is emphatically not in the league of those acts, so should just leave DM the fukk alone, just as Marilyn Manson should have, he TOTALLY blew his credibility for me by messing up with his pishy 80s covers routine....

Actually, you know, I'll be totally honest.... I dont actually hate the Saturdays half as much as I utterly DESTEST (in bold capitals...) Coldplay... Seriously....

At the end of the day, The Sats are just a fluffy, insubstantial girly pop act and probably wont be around in a few years' time whereas, Coldplay have already bored us all sh!tless for the best part of a decade, and will probaby continue to bore everyone sh"tless and destroy the once-good name of Indie/Alt Rock for another decade, which I personally find far more offensive..... That tends to mark Coldplay out as being the worst of the two IMO.....

oh, and Frankie and co dont tend to prattle on about being "environmentally conscious eco warrior types, blah-de-blah" like tw@tboy Martin does.... Yeah, Chris, you are SO environmentally conscious which is why your band continue to press CDs and have them transported around the country IN TRUCKS instead of putting up Coldplay albums on websites for download only..... Maybe it's just me, but isn't that what someone in a band who claimed to be a bit "environmentally conscious" would tend to do.....? Don't say it if you dont mean it Chris.....

now that i agree with 100% ....

but unlike you, my mind ISNT made up already about how the sats MIGHT perform ... ok, its unlikely that they will improve (the already p*** poor) 'just cant get enough' (abit like ga covering 'jump') ... but until ive heard it, ill not make a finial decision ! :P

it might just be credible if done as an accapella track... that might be interesting.

Does that make the music any less sh!t.....? No, it just means more people being daft enough to believe the hype.....

Or it means people have minds of their own and a taste which is, shock horror, not the same as yours. Any hype around the Saturdays was generated months ago by the label - their success now is due to making some connection with the public and the subsequent word-of-mouth hype that comes through that, not through the initial launch buzz.

Hurrah! Didn't think I'd see myself saying it any time soon but I like your attitude!

It's obviously not going to be acapella in the sense of no music whatsoever though...

Now that's a better statement.

It could've been the other way if the world is better. :(

Well, Coldplay ain't gonna do that, they will continue to spend money to bore us.

true..... the hype isnt around now, 'if this is love' was a poor first track, lazily sampling yazoo... 'up' is very irritating but has the halmarks of a good pop song as whether you like it or not, it gets in your head and sticks their like a malevolant insect burrowing into your brain... 'issues' is a simple, unpretencious pleasant pop song.

will they be around by crimbo?.... hmmm.... the jury is still out on this, i hope they keep their clothes ON and concentrate on the quality of their material, which still needs to improve to secure a future. tbh i still dont expect them to be around long.

hold on

"I truthfully believe The Saturdays will become a household name," band member Rochelle Wiseman told FHM. (from digital spy)

looks like they might be starting to believe their own hype...

Well the fact that they've got past last Christmas is an achievement considering you were originally saying they wouldn't make it that far before being scrapped.

Hmm...well I think they will be with the next album. As you said, the first single was a bit naff and if they continued on like that they wouldn't have made it to another album but "Up" has been quite a big hit and "Issues" could go the same way even though I think it's their worst one yet. If they come back with something as good as "Up" for the next album and this isn't a disaster commercially I reckon they could get a #1 single, or at least a #2...

As far as Rochelle's statement go, I'd be more worried if she didn't believe they would. They are good vocalists, making good pop songs. I'd be offended if someone I was a fan of didn't have the belief that they would make a success of themselves. I think it's important in any job to believe you can be the best!

Also, it's not without substance, her claim. At the start of last year, there were 4 or 5 new groups being touted as becoming 'the third' of the primary UK girlgroups - most of them to my knowledge have never released a single, let alone had a bigger year than the Sugababes! There has been a degree of success to back them up, if she'd have said it before or during If This Is Love that would be more of a case of believing the hype.

Exactly. So she's got an ambition, and it's to be a household name. How, erm... awful for a mainstream pop star...

?!

Is FHM out now?

And Jark, I think that might be the first time we've fully agreed on here or on UKMIX haha

Why does it have to be a cover? :manson: The best Comic Relief songs are originals (Spice Girls for example = classic). Interesting that it's The Saturdays though. Comic Relief must've cottoned on to the fact that they're big single sellers.
So it's allright for GaGa to believe her own hype and to be confident but it's not for Rochelle?

The sad fact is that Joe Public are stupid sheep when it comes to muzak.... they'll buy any old crap if it's in the top 5 and if it's being hyped by some TV show or being advertised.... I think a few hit singles for The Saturdays can hardly be equated with, ahem, 'connecting to their public'.

Then again, the average age and intelligence of both The Saturdays and their fans... perhaps their banal, braindead, wafer-thin, bland pop has struck a chord with the people who flap their little arms about to their muzak.... tragic. As girl bands go, they make even vomit like Atomic Kitten seem appealing.

A Poundstretchers, cut-price and ATROCIOUSLY styled Girls Aloud-alite for young girls and camp mincing gay men...and that's it. Really.
