20 14 JAPANESE WHISPERS - THE CURE

THRILLER wouldn`t go away at this time. BILLY JOEL managed to stick out a year up, and down the album chart, as did UB40 with "LABOUR OF LOVE". The original "NOW" was about the first time around...though it peaked at number 2. During 1980, JOHN LENNON had been working with YOKO ONO on the DOUBLE FANTASY album. "MILK AND HONEY" was a number of picks, that did not make it on to DOUBLE FANTASY. VAN HALEN got a good title with"1984", as GEORGE ORWELL`s book title grew! A host of albums sporned singles, and long runners for most of the top 20 artists in the album chart. Compilations were diminishing, and Valentine`s Day was only a week or 2 away as "SOMETIMES WHEN WE TOUCH"....a luvvy, duvvy selection entered at 24. BILLY BRAGG was hugging the front covers of NME...and free E.Ps were a-plenty!

33 25 ISLANDS IN THE STREAM - KENNY ROGERS/DOLLY PARTON

36 NE LET THE MUSIC PLAY - SHANNON

37 34 PRISONER OF LOVE - SPEAR OF DESTINY

38 37 COLOURFIELD - COLOURFIELD

39 NE ANOTHER MAN - BARBERA MASON

40 42 A NIGHT IN NEW YORK - ELBOW BONES AND THE RACKETEERS

So, 1984s singles gave us RELAX (thanks Mike, really hated that)! JOE FAGIN gave us one of two themes to "AUF WIEDERSEIN PET". CYNDI LAUPER nicked a bit a a DANA record for "GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN". Maybe she didn`t realise...But do TAKE THAT realise that "GREATEST DAY" sounds like KEANE`s "CRYSTAL BALL?" JOHN LENNON`s label released NOBODY TOLD ME from the album, mentioned before. BIG COUNTRY went into top 5 territory. QUEEN scored an MRIB charttopper eventually with RADIO GAGA. ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN bashed up 10 places to 7. PAUL MCCARTNEY was up with the album, and down with the single. MATTHEW WILDER had DAVID HAMILTON`s record of the week on Radio 2`s top rated drivetime show, knocking spots off the dreaded Steve Wright! FICTION FACTORY scored their only major hit. CHINA CRISIS were celebrating with their top 10 smash. EURYTHMICS had my favourite hit of the time. SHAKIN` STEVENS teamed up with BONNIE TYLER for a re-make of BROOK BENTON/DINAH WASHINGTON`s early 60s song. DURAN DURAN had the highest new entry...weren`t they better than Wham? Oh course! SNOWY WHITE had his only success. HOWARD JONES slipped with his 2nd hit. GLORIA GAYNOR was not popular on airplay with her hit. THE SMITHS had more NME cover display. SIMPLE MINDS struggled until 1985. The THOMPSON TWINS cranked it into the surgery with 2 top 40 hits in one week. THE ALARM could not get that top 10 hit. MANHATTEN TRANSFER were back, classy as ever. Never a fan of MUSICAL YOUTH...SIXTEEN had little airplay. ICICLE WORKS gave us the classic "WONDERFUL COLOUR". RICK SPRINGFIELD got people confused with Bruce! THE THORN BIRDS appeared on tv...and 2 versions were in the chart as the theme via HENRY MANCINI, and JUAN MARTIN. ELBOW BONES AND THE RACKETEERS scraped to 40, but managed aboiut 4 weeks at 33, on the GALLUP chart. PREFAB SPROUT, SPEAR OF DESTINY, and BARBARA MASON all missed the GALLUP/RADIO ONE TOP 40...A final thought for the late EARTHA KITT, as she slipped from 31 - 41 in 1984.

Just a few months away from the very first NETWORK TOP 30 in 1984...All a big secret until April, when Capital first announced it. Then SOUNDS started to use MRIB`s TOP 50 Singles chart...but that did not include the airplay in the top 30, and that was what pushed David Jensen ahead of Radio One...and the rather limp Richard Skinner (who was pushed into Radio One`s top 40, and had to play all 40 records in 2 hours for the first few weeks)! :o

Is Bloc Party - 'One Month Off' nowhere to be seen at all? :snif:

It`s not released until Monday, and only 7" Single...

Thanks Dave! I'm not sure if you wanted our server discussion posts to stay, so I only left one! Anyway, this is great :)
It`s not released until Monday, and only 7" Single...

It was definitely released this week (the 7") but I guess it won't show up anywhere. It's doing nothing on downloads practically

Did you see it in the shops, then? I definately have 2nd on my release sheet.

Cheers Dave.

Pleasing to see Hallelujah, Hot N Cold and Sex On Fire finally leave the top20 and allow some new tracks to climb. :)

Did you see it in the shops, then? I definately have 2nd on my release sheet.

Well I got an email from Bloc Party (as I'm on the mailing list) saying it was released this week and I received my 7" through the post, but it must just be because I pre-ordered it.

Thanks for posting! Shame Kanye's fallen so much though :(

Where's Bon Iver - Blood Bank by the way?

Pussycats Dolls are going to knock themselves out of the top 40 on Sunday with their new single

Jason Mraz is doing well climbing again this week with 'I'm Yours'

Thanks for posting Dave

Where's Bon Iver - Blood Bank by the way?

Must be a big fall Tom...It even fell out of the physical top 20, and was 3 last week. No top 75 position showing here!

Ouch. Oh well, hope the album's good...
My prediction game result is gonna be poor this week with both GA and Pink out of the top 20 / top 40 respectively :(
Not so bad, as in TIPs game I said Alexndra - Hallelujah would be the fastest faller in the top 75 :(
