This musical chameleon is Britain's most influential male artist in the history of popular music.

Are any of you fans of this musical legend or do you agree with Simon Cowell that he is the most overrated British male artist?

on a personal note, i was never keen on his material... but 'ashes to ashes' was one of the best tracks from 1980, and i like a few other tracks from the 80's.

factually he is one of our greatest ever artists, undisputedly the greatest solo male we have ever produced, his work has inspired many who came afterwards .... so whilst i personally dont rate him, ill never knock his work, influence, and achievements.

He is one of my ultimate heroes. When I was younger I devoured anything written about him.

An amazing icon that has recorded some of my favourite songs and albums.

My fave album has to be Diamond Dogs which was based on an aborted attempt to record a musical based on 1984, hence all the references to Big Brother. I remember my Dad having this on tape in 1975 so this would have been one of the first albums I ever heard in its entirety and it had a big effect on me. Then there was the second half of the Heroes album which was the first ambient album I heard. And Ziggy and Aladdin of course. Yes I know Eno did it first but Bowie's talent was taking non-mainstream ideas and taking them overground to often glorious effect. It was only with the debacle of the Tonight album that he put a foot wrong.

My favourite solo singer of all time. I have nearly all his albums (well not the Tin Machine phase), too many tracks to mention, but Life on Mars stands out, better stop there or will list dozens.

Continually reinventing himself and his music, always discovering the next big thing and developing his style. How many artists would name him as a big influnce on their career.
