Flop of the week for KARDINAL OFFISHALL - NUMBA 1... looks like it won't make the top 40 at all this week!

Last week we had 38 in the 40 on singles, and 27 in the top 30 combined albums. A right good hit rate, I'm sure you'll agree :)

Back in 1987, Radio Luxembourg came up with this:

01 03 I KNEW YOU WERE WAITING - ARETHA FRANKLIN/GEORGE MICHAEL

02 02 C`EST LA VIE - ROBBIE NEVIL

03 16 HEARTACHE - PEPSI AND SHIRLIE

04 01 JACK YOUR BODY - STEVE SILK HURLEY

11 NE SHOPLIFTERS OF THE WORLD UNITE - SMITHS

12 04 SURRENDER - SWING OUT SISTER

13 NE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT - MICHAEL CRAWFORD/SARAH BRIGHTMAN

14 NE IT DOESN`T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY - BLOW MONKEYS

15 19 JACK THE GROOVE - RAZE

16 07 WASTELAND - MISSION

17 15 REET PETITE - JACKIE WILSON

18 20 I.O.U. - FREEEZ

19 NE BEHIND THE MASK - ERIC CLAPTON

20 NE SOMEDAY - GLASS TIGER

21 23 ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY - VESTA WILLIAMS

22 05 IT DIDN`T MATTER - STYLE COUNCIL

23 NE ROCK THE NIGHT - EUROPE

24 08 REAL WILD CHILD - IGGY POP

25 12 WALKING DOWN YOUR STREET - BANGLES

26 14 HYMN TO HER - PRETENDERS

27 18 BIG FUN - GAP BAND

28 09 SOMETHING IN MY HOUSE - DEAD OR ALIVE

29 10 THIS WHEEL`S ON FIRE - SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES

30 27 VICTORY - KOOL AND THE GANG

Luxembourg had 27 in the 30 in 1987, these were the days when they did better. Although Glass Tiger did not make it with "Someday" as the follow up to "Don`t Forget Me When I`m Gone". Aretha and George had had enough of waiting and stormed to number 1, just ahead of Robbie saying C'est La Vie long before B*Witched were a glint in smiling Irish eyes. Wham's backing singers Pepsi and Shirlie were also zooming up the chart. Wonder if they ever did a Coke ad? Randy Crawford was a lucky lucky thing climbing into the top 10. Italy-based British songstress Taffy also flying up with one of my favourite guilty pleasures of the 80s, origianlly titled Midnight Radio, but it had to be changed because Radio 1 didn't broadcast after midnight then! Hot Chocolate getting sexy in the bottom end of the top ten, and Morrissey and gang were so near yet so far with Shoplifters. Our 2009 Eurovision entrant (to all intents and purposes) Andrew Lloyd Webber's song from Phantom Of The Opera appears out of nowhere at number 13, Freez write one hell of a funky IOU at number 18 (one of my favourite 80s non-guilty pleasures) and Eric Clapton gets a little help from Japanese synth pioneers Yellow Magic Orchestra, taking their song in at number 19. Europe also proved themselves not to be one hit wonders with their first UK hit since The Final Countdown (again with the guilty pleasures!)

Cheers Tom. :)

The charts are SO slow at the moment! :(

Unfortunately I think Eminem will be at least top10 by the end of the week on downloads. :puke:

No probs :) True about the charts being slow :( But I really think it's going to pick up in the next couple of the weeks.

As for Eminem, he's nowhere to be seen right now... I think top 40 at absolute best. I also think Daniel Merriweather will be higher by the end of the week.

Thanks for covering Tom, just popped in to say...It looks like Hit40uk were right, and the combined physical/downloads will soon match the download chart totally, as yesterday`s chart showed.

Thanks for posting Tom :D

Shame to see White Lies falling so much with the album :( A drop of 19 places is awful!

Thanks Dave. Interesting stuff. It's funny how many other countries still use physical only sales... it's got to be distorting the chart!

No prob Cremey :) I agree, I just downloaded it, it's a great album... (I guess I'm partly to blame, that said!)

I wasn't expecting Daniel Merriwether that high, it seems too high, I think that will chart lower down in the official chart. Other than that is another dead week.

Thanks for posting Tom

No problem Mart!n. DM has done a lot of promotionm lately, like the Sunday Night Project yesterday, I would actually be surprised not to see it in the top 10!
