Yes or No, do you think people who have murdered another person deserve to have their human rights looked after? I really don't think they should have anything more than basic stuff, they have taken someones life and deserve to be punished for it.

.......... it aint usually as straight foreward as 'yes or no'... people end up being convicted of murder for a wide variety of reasons.

tony martin for eg, was protecting his home against some scumbags who went out of their way to rob him. thats hardly the same 'murder' as a thug knifing to death steven lawrence just because hes black!

Yeah I agree Rob

Its time that 1st and 2nd degree murder was bought in like America

1st degree for the Huntley's, Sutcliffe's etc and 2nd degree for the likes of Martin or people who kill in self defence or crimes of passion

1st degree ones should be treated with just enough food and water to keep them alive, a pillow and mattrass and basic standards of healthcare

2nd degree ones should have the same rights as other prisoners

huntly is just evil and sub-human, the same as that bstd who got sarah payne and all them other little girls killers over the years (it seemed like every summer some little girl got abducted, sexually abused, and murdered :( ) thankfully these incidents dont happen so much now.

Every human being should have human rights. However, I think human rights of honest people should be the priority. There are several human rights organizations that worry about the treatment that jailed people are receiving, but you do not see these organizations bothering about starving children at all...

I do think it´s very dangerous to separate people into 2 closed groups, the "good" and the "evil", I reckon some multi millionaire people that are admired by society can be worse then murderes or rappers, here in Brazil, they might never have shot someone but the money they have stolen has lead to several deaths on precary hospitals or starving people who should be receiving it... Anyway, that´s the view of a 3rd world habitant.

fair comment, but are you fully aware of the facts that people like ian huntley have perpetrated? ie, abducting, sexually abusing and then murdering 2 little girls? do people like that have any human rights?

Yeah I agree Rob

Haven't we already kinda got that in a way with the whole 'manslaughter' plea...? I realise that it may be a little vague and need tightening up, but I kind of baulk at the thought of taking ideas from a system as fundamentally flawed as the US system of justice where if you're rich enough, you can pretty much buy your way out of a heavy sentence or the death penalty.... <_<

As another poster has said, it's not really as simple as saying people are "good" or "evil" as such. I personally feel that the establishment has done far more bad things and committed far more heinous acts of mass murder and human rights abuses than any killer you care to mention (even someone as vile as Ian Huntley or Ted Bundy...) over the past few years (yes, I'm talking to YOU Mr Blair, Mr Hoon, Mr Straw, Mr Blunkett, Mr Clarke.....). Also Multinational Corporations are guilty of incredibly heinous crimes upon the people of the Developing World (for example Shell in Nigeria, Union Carbide in Bhopal, the oil companies in Iraq, to give but a few examples....), but because these people have money and political influence, they get away with murder, quite literally....
