February 8, 200916 yr I was a big fan of the Buzzcocks, realled like their stuff, like "What do I get", "Promises" and "Ever fallen in love". Can't honestly remember anything by Magazine. Only thing I didn't like was Pete Shelley's sort of wining singing voice.
February 9, 200916 yr loved them! they were a fantastic group, melodic, fast, hard, but poignant. possibly the best group to emerge from the punk scene and godfathers to many 'indie' groups that followed directly in their wake.
February 9, 200916 yr Absolutely love the Buzzcocks, i went to see them a few weeks ago in Manchester and they were absolutely fantastic. I must admit Magazine passed me by back in the day but i've recently been listening to their albums and albeit vastly different to the Buzzcocks sound, they are starting to grow on me, especially such songs as "The Light Pours Out Of Me and Touch & Go, i'm enjoying them enough to have purchased tickets for this coming Saturdays show in Manchester Buzzcocks still my fave tho'
February 10, 200916 yr I love the Buzzcocks, had their singles back in the day and the string of singles they released in 1978 were all top notch, B sides included. I liked Magazine, had two singles by them Shot By Both Sides (which has the same progression as Lipstick by The Buzzcocks, B side to Promises), the other a song from 1981, About The Weather. One of my all time favourite guitarists, John McGeoch, co-founded Magazine, along with Howard Devoto, in 1977 and was co-writer for many of their songs. Disillusioned with the band, mainly because of the lack of success, he left to join Siouxsie and the Banshees in early 1980 and helped guide them into their greatest period of commercial success. It's his guitar work that makes songs like Happy House, Christine, Israel and the stupendous Spellbound such brilliant songs. He also appeared on the debut Visage album along with two other Magazine members. After leaving Siouxsie and the Banshees he joined PIL before all but retiring as a musician and training to become a nurse! Sadly he died in 2004 aged only 48. Edited February 10, 200916 yr by Robbie
