Sophie Ellis-Bextor has given birth to a baby boy nine weeks early.

The singer was rushed to hospital on Saturday and underwent emergency surgery after being diagnosed with potentially life-threatening condition pre-eclampsia.

The baby, who was due to be born in April, has been named Kit Valentine and weighed just 2lb 10oz.

A statement released by the star's agent confirmed that both mother and child are in a stable condition.

"Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Richard Jones welcomed the latest addition to their family on Saturday February 7th.

"The happy couple have named their boy Kit Valentine Jones. Both mother and baby are doing well."

Ellis-Bextor already has a four-year-old boy, Sonny, with Jones, guitarist for The Feeling. Sonny also arrived prematurely at 28 weeks and spent five weeks in hospital.

Awww ^_^

I read about this! Thank Goodness all was OK with the baby though ^_^

Maybe the baby wants her mum to release an album earlier?
