U2 to be David Letterman's house band for a week

Bono and co are to play a five-night residency on the Late Show with David Letterman. Perhaps they felt sorry for him after his disastrous Joaquin Phoenix interview

Sean Michaels guardian.co.uk, Friday 13 February 2009

Forget football stadiums, red carpets and recording studios – it seems the biggest bands in the world prefer to hang out with US talkshow hosts. U2 will play a residency on the Late Show With David Letterman while the White Stripes will reunite for an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, it was announced this week. Presumably Jay Leno is feeling left out.

U2's five-night stint on Letterman will take place 2-6 March, the same week that the band's new album is released in the US. They are the first band to feature on the programme for a whole week, according to a release.

No Line On the Horizon is U2's first release since 2004 and they last appeared on the Late Show in 2001.

Though U2's eight-year absence from the Late Show was probably due to their schedule, it may also have been linked to their performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Leno is Letterman's arch-rival, and the Irish band appeared on his show just weeks after their last Letterman appearance.

The White Stripes will play the last Late Night with Conan O'Brien show, which will be their first live performance since the summer of 2007. Jack and Meg White have a long-standing relationship with O'Brien's show. They played a week-long residency in 2003 and O'Brien had a cameo in the Denial Twist music video.

The White Stripes will appear on 20 February.

As for British talkshows, do not despair – U2 will perform on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on 27 February. :w00t:

International mega band U2 makes history March 6 when it performs on ABC's "Good Morning America," making its first-ever live performance on a morning show.

U2 on Good Morning America March 6th.

The location of the unprecedented morning TV event has yet to be announced, but the group's performance coincides with the release of its highly anticipated new album, "No Line on the Horizon," which hits stores Tuesday March 3.

The record is the 12th studio release from the Irish rockers, who have been together for more than 30 years. The album's first single, "Get On Your Boots" was broadcast on radio stations in Ireland this week and is currently available on U2's Web site.

"No Line on the Horizon" follows U2's highly successfully 2004 album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb."

The commercially successful and critically acclaimed musicians hit the big-time in the 1980s and have remained an integral part of the pop culture and music scenes ever since.

U2 to Rock Out at Fordham

updated 2:47 p.m. ET March 1, 2009

Bono and Co. could be soon be rocking out in the Bronx.

U2 is set to perform on the Fordham University campus March 6 to film a stint on ABC program "Good Morning America," the Hartford Courant reported.

The "secret" gig is part of U2's whirlwind week in the Big Apple to promote their new album, "No Line on the Horizon."

The event is reportedly open to Fordham students and staff only and will require a university ID for access. Fordham professors have been told to cancel their classes that morning "for security reasons," the Courant reported.

Word of the "Joshua Tree" band's visit to the university had students and faculty alike buzzing.

"I'm absolutely shocked," Fordham senior Lauren Cerulli, 21, told the New York Daily News.

"I'm a huge U2 fan, and I've wanted to see them in concert for five or six years," she said.

ABC and the university refused to officially confirm the concert's location.

They performed 'Breathe' on the first night last night and it was a brilliant performance. My fave of any song from the album thus far I think. Bono nailed it :D

I love Breathe more now then I did.

great quality

and I'll Go Crazy...

Magnificent was briliant, but I'll Go Crazy really shocked me with how great it is live :o So much better than on the album. I have always loved breathe but I am addicted to it now. Definatly my third fave on the album. I just adore, especially the chorus. So uplifting and so U2

Apperently they have recored Beautiful Day and Vertigo, also Boots was done on Monday apperently but won't be screened till tomorrow night. So it seems we won't be getting anymore new songs. Why do they have to do BD and Vertigo? I want to hear Stand Up Comedy live :smoke:

I love very much I'll Go Crazy on album also. And I agree it's great live. I just adore that lyrics in it.

Yes, for me, chorus in Breathe is part of the song I like the most. Also great lyrics.

And I want to hear No Line On The Horizon live! :w00t: And Original Of The Species, which won't happen, but that's my wish.

They sang No Line On The Horizon on the culture show. Well in a studio but it was a performance. Very good too

Here it is

Yes, I know, I already watched it. But, I want really really live!

again HD

And crowd is really great! :w00t:
