Personally I would not call St Etienne (with a single that got no airplay & failed to reach the Top 40) nor Amy Studt (who's last single made UK#227 from an album still physically unreleased cheap).

Nice Boys is something of a mini-Buzzjack anthem didn't you know :o it might not be lighting up the charts but it's quite well known on here I would say! Saint Etienne is the least cheap of that particular bunch, but nonetheless, it is the only one in that group that is a bona fide current 'hit single'

I think Wideboys ruined Can't Get Over, the bassline made that song! As for Love Story, nothing can be called cheap in the contest ever again!

However if say 6 or 7 of the remaining 11 songs reached the top 10 in the BJSC XIV then Nonsuch will seriously consider withdrawing from future contests as I personally feel it goes against the spirit of finding new or obscure music by relatively unknown artists to listen to.

I think the first two aren't cheap in the traditional sense. But it's a bit like sending Brandy's "Right Here (Departed)" now, it didn't do much chart wise yet it was somehow unavoidable on Buzzjack. Saying that, I'm yet to hear the Amy Studt single, but that's because I'm not that fussed with her. I had heard about it.

Unfortunately, I can imagine at least 5 of the rest going top 10. (Enrique, Lily, Veronicas, Lady Sov and Kelly Clarkson) I don't think entries necessarily have to be new and obscure. Anyway, Kylie, Duffy and Lily Allen are hardly relatively unknown are they? (though your other entries are definitely the sort of thing you want the BJSC to be about)

Well..."Love Story" will change that by tomorrow.

Here's my video Peter, thanks to Tom. ^_^

Personally I think this contest is going to be the cheapest one I have participated in so far.

Even more cheap than VIII

Same for me, if I'd waited a day for Depeche Mode's Wrong to leak I'd have jumped on that like no tomorrow but if more & more entries look cheap then my entry which I absolutely love (by a new UK artist who has yet to have a Top 75 hit single) will look more classier.

At least that is what I'm trying to tell myself.

Marina And The Diamonds  My favourite act of 2008 so far!

Saint Etienne can't be considered as cheap at all imo too. But Amy Studt is very cheap seeing that half of BJ has already heard the song :o

P.S.: I didn't think i'd choose 3 TIP's posts to quote out of the whole 3 pages  :heehee:

Has half of Buzzjack not also heard the Saint Etienne song? It's the one of those two I've heard. coming from someone with an entry 80% of Buzzjack has heard

Whoa at 46 entries! With Skall to confirm still, this will be the biggest contest (and semis) so far.

I think despite being a flop, the Saint Etienne song is indeed fairly well known on Buzzjack, I've seen a lot of talk about it in various threads...it doesn't erase the fact that it is by far the best song for Kopecka this month in comparison to Trashlexis' other potential choices

and indeed Aaron, some of Nonsuch's earlier entries were quite cheap I thought, in particular The One which was on the verge of release at the time, although they have got an awful lot more obscure in more recent months, Suzie McNeil and Nerina Pallot's songs being particularly great

I am not of course immune to cheapness myself...Love Song is the sort of thing which would be quite cheap now I should think, although I had no idea that it was going to get a UK release at the time! I'm not going to try to deny the supreme cheapness of Andreas Johnson's UK top 5 hit Glorious in III :heehee:

Beating the contest i hosted :snif:
:o I realised i didn't have any cheap entries. Except maybe for Natasha Bedingfield

and Hometown Glory was quite well known here when you sent it :P

^^Yeah, forgot about it. Still, my 3rd best song in 10 contests having finished at No.11
Lenka was your best in my opinion, and up there with the best winners of BJSC
When are FSR Rontvia going to win again? :(

I think I agree, the Saint Etienne track is gorgeous.

I guess the fact is that most people have cheap entries every so often but some more than others. I thought this was my first one but I guess Estelle and Robyn were quite cheap as they were future (top 30 ) hits, though I didn't realise Robyn was getting a release and...I have no excuse for Estelle. -_- But with September and probably Brandy next month my cheaper entries are mounting up.

I expect it'll all be over next month, we've just come off the back of a cheap spin-off. I would have thought that, with the longer gap, people would have had longer to find a good entry rather than a rushed one. (if I had enough confidence I would have gone for the Tegan and Sara song that I took the time to find for this contest)

XV, after they flop this time. I think their record is currently DNQ-3-DNQ-2- :heehee:

in a very long time I should think :heehee: I've come so close recently though :drama: Pixie and Sanna both topped their semis -_-

poor Uh Huh Her :heehee: oh well, I don't feel any pressure this month as I am due my flop :P I will feel pressure next month though :P and it's actually 4-DNQ-3-DNQ-2 :o
