Posted June 16, 200619 yr There hasn't been any major shocks this year whatsoever :( and the final group games are turning out to be quite meaningless in terms of second and third. It's a shame, last time round we saw Argentina and France exit in the group stages but I can't see anything like that happening again.

June 16, 200619 yr Surprised no major shocks this year from some African country, like when Cameroon got thru in one tournament, all the major countries seem to be qualifying for the next round so far, Ecuador can still pull something out of a hat though.
June 17, 200619 yr It's a shame really, had Ivory Coast not been in the "Group of Death", I reckon they'd've gone through to the QFs at least had they been in any other group, becuase they are a pretty quality team; they've just been really unfortunate enough to come up against an Argentina who are probably the best they've been since 1978 and a Dutch team who are the arguably the best they've been since the days of Gullit and Van Basten..! If they'd been in England's rather p*** easy group instead of Trinidad or Paraguay, they'd've probably topped the bloody thing, they certainly would've made Sweden and England pay for their shortcomings more than T&T were able to....

Italy, hmmm, who knows, USA will be gutted that they were torn apart by the Czechs and will hopefully come out fighting, but the Italians have got a lot of quality and experience so I just can't see it tbh.... :( Keep an eye out for the Aussies though, they showed a hell of a lot of character after going one down against Japan and whacked three goals in in six minutes.... Kewell and Viduka are quality players....
