February 19, 200916 yr Yeah, even though I think for stuff like cannabis, young people should learn from their mistakes, the harder drugs just CANNOT be legally permitted.
February 19, 200916 yr ^^ To the above point though (I may or may not be playing Devil's Advocate here), would your friend have been stabbed had drugs been legalised? Legalise drugs and you take away the illegal trade and thereby a significant amount of the problems that arise from drugs...granted, not the effects from the taking of the drugs or the crime to fuel addictions, but still, would it be worth it? I would be interested to see how Crazy Chris would respond to seeing some figures from The Netherlands tbh... Yes he would, the reason he was stabbed was cos his brother was schizo from the cocaine... He didnt get stabbed in the street as part of a mugging, but in his own home... Also i dont think that by legalising drugs, we can expect the crime rate of the country to go down (I mean in a way, we can because less drugs being illegal = less crimes to be convicted of) but there are still gonna be some people in financial trouble to support their "addiction" because i think everyone knows that drugs dont come cheap....

Ah, in that case fair enough and my apologies. And the crime rate would go down - no illegal drug cartels (the government would control distribution etc.) and the like - as a comparison, it took the Prohibition being removed to stop Al Capone, so the horrendous drug trade we have at the moment would die out if it was legalised and put under governmental control with restrictions as is the case for alcohol etc. And the Daily Mail's self-righteous screams of an addict nation can pretty much f*** off seeing as the Netherlands don't seem to have done too badly off it...
February 21, 200916 yr Oh dear don't ruin now Lily, and there was me thinking what a mature nice lady you were becoming. I understand her slightly flawed logic here, but drugs are illegal for very good reasons which I think we should all remember.

That could just as easily happen with someone who was drunk though mate.... How many alcohol fuelled crimes took place last year....? Thousands.... I think Tyron is right, much of the organised crime and the seriously nasty pre-meditated violence that is associated with the drug trafficking trade would disappear, of course the more random violence would still occur, but you get random violence every Saturday night with binge-drinking chavs squaring up to each other, glassing each other, etc.... What's the diff....? I think in balance, that we should regulate the drug trade, control it, take it out of the hands of criminals, we should just admit that we will never win the war on drugs because people are just not going to heed advice and will always want to get fukked up...... It's surely a lot better for society if we make sure that if this does happen, then it should happen only where WE choose and where WE can control it, we used to have opium dens in the past, we should set up something similar.... There's plenty of derelict properties far away from residential areas and schools.... Of course anyone not complying with this rule of only taking drugs in designated places should be severely punished, I would say a minimum sentence of 10 years for anyone caught using drugs in non-specified areas....
