Posted February 20, 200916 yr The presenting team of Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Mathew Horne failed to pull in viewers and the general consensus was that their comedy fell flat. The ITV1 coverage was watched by an average of 5.2 million viewers - compared with the 6.1 million who tuned in for last year's ceremony hosted by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. However, there was good news for the artists who performed, as HMV reported a surge in downloads during the show. "Viewers are increasingly getting into the habit of downloading their favourite songs by Brits artists as they watch the awards ceremony on TV - during last night's transmission our hmvdigital online store experienced a major 300 per cent upsurge in sales of mp3 downloads of the featured artists. "Our stores often experience a dobuling or even a trebling in sales among Brits winners and performers so we can expect the likes of Duffy, Kings of Leon and Coldplay to see a big pick-up in sales over the weekend," said Gennaro Castaldo of HMV. Duffy, who scored a hat-trick of wins, is likely to be the biggest beneficiary. She won best female solo artist, best breakthrough act and best album for Rockferry. Castaldo said: "Rockferry is already the biggest-selling album of the past 12 months but there are so many people that still haven't heard it. The Brits will help to reach well beyond her core fanbase to connect with a much wider audience." 5.2 million aint too bad i guess....
February 20, 200916 yr That's down to the awful presenters! Best one I've ever seen is when Russell Brand hosted..
February 20, 200916 yr Author Yeah i didnt think much of the presenters either - Should get Chris Moyles or someone next year!
February 20, 200916 yr ^Alan Carr would be brilliant. Him or bring back Russell. Kylie and the two plonkers were awful.
February 20, 200916 yr That's down to the awful presenters! Best one I've ever seen is when Russell Brand hosted.. I'd totally agree with that. And yet he was slagged off by most people (including a load here on BJ) for his presenting. I thought he was hilarious (a wee bit nervous) but still bloody funny. Alan Carr was a good suggestion. Having said that ... when they go for a comedian to present ... it usually goes down quite flat (or in the case of Russell Brand - it just isn't accepted) Maybe they should go for someone who just isn't noted for being funny ... and they may accidentally raise some laughs. Jeremy Clarkson for instance, or Jim Davidson :puke2: . Norma
February 20, 200916 yr Author I can see them getting Alan Carr to do it next year. Great idea - And maybe Justin Lee Collins with him too :w00t:
February 20, 200916 yr Russel Brand was such a breath of fresh air. This year's was a bit embarrassing. The two guys who presented were just lame and unfunny.
February 20, 200916 yr Kylie just seemed so "plonked" between those to twits. I agree, bring in Alan Carr & Divina McColl (again).
February 20, 200916 yr Yeah i didnt think much of the presenters either - Should get Chris Moyles or someone next year! I've only been watching it if there's been nothing else on worth watching. Get him on, and I defintely won't be watching it.
February 20, 200916 yr Author I've only been watching it if there's been nothing else on worth watching. Get him on, and I defintely won't be watching it. Yes - I think he'd be a great laugh on it!
February 20, 200916 yr I dont get why people think Kylie was rubbish at all. What did people expect her to do. She hardly a comedian or anything like that. She did what she was expected to do, present. The other two were rubbish though. They were the comedy outlet and it fell flat on its face.
February 21, 200916 yr alan carr would be brilliant i agree,,however i thought russel brand was awful
February 21, 200916 yr alan carr would be brilliant i agree,,however i thought russel brand was awful No! No! Russell was the best for me so far! I know that isn't saying much as it has been crap since it started .... but he has been by far the best. Norma
February 21, 200916 yr To be fair, The Brits really wasn't up to much last night. I remember when loads of people used to watch it and we'd talk about it the next day ... I seriously think the last decent one I saw was ages ago ... all I remember was that Avril Lavigne performed Sk8r Boi on it so it was a while back LOL.
February 21, 200916 yr Russell Brand - Extremely entertaining and you just had to watch because anything could happen, live + Russell Brand = controversy The Osbournes - Once again, you had to watch it because they're not ones for holding back what they thought Matthew Horne + James Corden - Not amazing established comedians Gavin & Stacey, okay, its done well, but they havent had hardly any experience at hosting a live show, and plenty will be wondering who are they? They need someone controversial to pull in viewers, or someone alot people absolutely find hilarious live. Thats what was the problem I agree, Alan Carr & Justin Lee Collins are off the cuff comedy, in the right way. Edited February 21, 200916 yr by TheRobotKing
