The 4AD ethereal trio fronted by singer Elizabeth Fraser with then boyfriend Robin Guthrie became the template for the likes of Portishead and Goldfrapp.

Were any of you fans of Elizabeth Fraser's ethereal and evocative voice or not?

tbh i overlooked these as i wasnt into contemporary music much at the time they were operating and i was too bone idle/uninterested to search decent material out.
To be honest I never really got into her music, Maybe check them out now though.
I loved the Cocteau Twins but one of the most disappointing gigs I ever went to was the Cocteau Twins in Newcastle in 1984. Liz's voice sounded poor and there was no atmosphere at all. The band did the gig and walked off without doing an encore, Liz telling us all to "F*** Off" and stated that they wouldn't do an encore as we were all boring! A total disappointment. I still liked the band after that but I never made any attempt to go and see them again after that.
