Pete Doherty has insisted that he will be able to convince Carl Barat to reform The Libertines with him.

The singer, who scooped the Shockwaves NME Award for best solo artist, admitted that he is busy working on his own solo album but is hoping for a reunion with his old band within two years.

"I've written and recorded a solo album," he told NME.

"There's probably another on the way, there's an amazing Babyshambles record on the way and The Libertines is going to happen in the next couple of years, by hook or crook."

Doherty added that he wouldn't twist Barat's arm too hard to persuade him to reform the group.

"I don't twist it too far. He doesn't take kindly to it. He's not harder than me, but he's got a nasty streak, twist it too far and it'll snap."

The Libertines disbanded in 2004 just months after their self-titled second album reached number one.

Doherty releases his debut solo record Grace/Wastelands on March 16.

Hopefully that's true and it'll eventually happen.

The bit about 'twist is too far and it'll snap" is a bit  though

FUTHUR f***ING MORE:

Pete Doherty has said that The Libertines will reform in 2010 – while former band-mate Carl Barat has claimed that the pair are still The Libertines anyway.

The pair spoke to Neil Cole on NME Radio at the Shockwaves NME Awards last night (February 25) - their only joint interview on the night - with Barat suggesting that he had plans for a solo album before any reformation takes place.

Cole mentioned that if he was interviewing them a few years ago he would have been interviewing The Libertines, to which Barat said: "You have got The Libertines in front of you – what are you talking about?"

Doherty added: "I've been trying to twist his arm about that one," then later said, "2010".

"I always put Pete forward as a little guinea pig," Barat then joked. "Pete solo, that worked out, so I'll do that next year."

seems pretty f***ing solid confirmation that they are still The Libertines and that they will be back NEXT YEAR!!!!

and tbh i reckon Reading and Leeds will be their main comebacl event :kink:

"THE LIBERTINES HAVE TO PERFORM, IT'S UNFINISHED BUSINESS"

Pete Doherty has declared that The Libertines reunion will definitely happen.

The singer outlines his plans for his former band with Carl Barat in an interview with NME Radio which will broadcast tomorrow (March 6) at noon (GMT)

"Well, its going to happen," he told presenter Neil Cole. "Its unfinished business, isn't it?”

In the interview Doherty also discusses his plans to bring Graham Coxon on the road with him for his solo tour, though revealed that old friend and collaborator Wolfman would not be coming as the pair recently fell out.

Listen to the full interview tomorrow at noon (and repeated again on Saturday, March 7) via Sky 0184, Virgin Media 975, Freesat 727 and NME.COM/radio.

You can also listen to NME Radio in London on 87.7fm.
