I agree, I think everyone should just calm down and have fun. It's a contest, the whole reason we're here is to have fun and enjoy music but it's turning into some sort of Debate Hall. :nocheer:

I agree.

Personally if it had been my call I would have frozen The BJSC Anti-Cheapness Movement! thread until after the Final voting had finished for that reason (although it could also be argued its existence could result in a backlash of people voting for cheap songs on purpose to further annoy those who support the thread).

However I'll say my thoughts on the whole BJSC XIV matter after the voting deadline as passed. Which is when this whole matter should be properly discussed to clear the air before BJSC XV starts.

To others (especially newer posters) who have read bits and pieces but have not yet voted. Then please ignore all of this storm in a teacup nonsense until after this contest is over (or certainly until the voting period is over) and vote for what the hell you want whatever criteria you want to use, because at the end of the day it is just a game and if posters don't want to play anymore then that is their choice. But I personally don't want anyone to be intimidated by what has been said, because music preferences is just that, and one person's preference is of equal value as the next person...

Thanks. Personally I'm brand new to this game, but the only good reason for voting for a song, or not voting for a song, that I can see is that you like it. It's stupid enough that people get so worked up about politics in Eurovision, so this seems a little crazy to me. I can understand why people get serious about this kind of thing, and I'm not going to lie and say that I wasn't over the moon when Alcazar made it through (though I still feel bad for Mart!n, especially since he got my 12!), but right now to me, it's just a game :)

Anyway, have re-rated each song out of 20 (got stats if you want them) and I just voted

All votes must be with me by 11.59pm on Saturday night.

o bugger....

Pete please expect very fine cutting points from the KoS, I was kinda banking on havign til Sunday  :o

I'm almost ready to give in my votes, but it was really really hard and I had to cut out a few songs I really liked. But I guess that's what has to be done :(

Edit: Ok sending them in now, it was really close and some songs have grown on me alot.....my 8 pointer in the semi only got 2 points now :o but it's what feels right so that's the way it'll go

Well as I entered BJSC for the first time it is quite scary to read this debate. And makes me think if I should continue with the next competition because I don't want to be under fire because of my song choice. I don't want to win desperately the competition, I enter with a song I like or think it's special to me. That's it. Thanks :D

This just proves my point - this constant, pathetic and somewhat bitchy argument about cheapness is just going to drive people away :/

Can I just apologise for my part in this argument. I really don't want people to be driven away from the contest, and what started off as light hearted banter about some songs being 'easier wins' than others, i.e. the stimulus of the whole 'cheap debate', has just been completely blown out of proportion by myself and quite a few others. I hadn't taken into account really that some people genuinely are sending the songs that they love, and as Ben (Ben's Sanctuary) said, mean something special to them. Just because they are possibly well known does not mean that they can't mean something to someone. I definitely overreacted a lot, and apologise for that.

Just ignore me, I didn't mean to cause any upset and certainly don't want anyone to feel driven away from BJSC. I had even been considering leaving myself, not because of the song choice/quality but moreso because I feel like I'm constantly putting my foot in it all the time on this forum when all I'm trying to do is share my opinion. I don't mean to sound obnoxious with it and know my opinions can sound forceful sometimes but that's my nature in reality as well, I always make sure I get my point across without thinking how others will perceive my actions. I am going to leave it there, but this is all I have to say on this 'cheap debate' as I don't want to put any more people off joining, I am the moderator and am supposed to be setting a good example after all.

Although it is a game and people keep referring to it as 'only a game', a lot of people are deeply passionate about it so are likely to have strong opinions on it. It quite upset me when there was that huge backlash against Headhunted. Usually people don't air their views on songs before the contest, so I didn't understand why people felt so keen to share the hate in that instance  To me, saying something like 'I hope Song X doesn't win, it's godawful, why is such rubbish at the top of the odds' is just as bad as criticising the cheap songs as it also makes people feel that their entries are inferior. I actually loved Headhunted and was quite demoralised at the reaction to the song as it almost made me feel that I have an awful music taste for sending it :heehee: Obviously if somebody has asked for advice/opinions then fair enough, but to musically put down somebody's confirmed song before the voting starts could just as easily sway people's opinions as criticising a song for being cheap, and is just as bad/mean in my opinion. I know a lot of people keep their opinions on songs completely to themselves for this reason if they are negative, and I think that is a very wise thing to do, and something I will certainly be taking up for fear of upsetting somebody again

I admit that I haven't taken people's feelings into account regarding the 'cheap debate', am very sorry about that, and will stop getting involved in it from this point onwards. If I have come across as hypocritical, that was not my intention at all, I really love a lot of these songs and have voted for a lot of them. I know other people have also verbally stated that they don't know 'how to vote' this time around so I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that way. I want the contest to be fun not just for everyone else again, but for me personally, and the only way for me to do that is to draw a line under this and say that I apologise and I won't be making any further comments regarding the validity of songs in the contest in the future. And if people personally wish to criticise other people's songs musically or lyrically (known or unknown)[/headhunted], maybe doing it after the contest, or at least after the voting period has finished, would be more thoughtful, as this can also take a lot of fun out of the contest, it certainly did for me in X. I really really am sorry if my (or other people's) comments upset anyone or has dissuaded them from taking part in future contests, hopefully we can move on from this cheap debate thing, I will be thinking more carefully about other people's feelings in the future and will be avoiding taking part in any future debates on the subject. From now on I am in it for the music alone, and any discussion points I make will be about the songs themselves, not their source.

Same for me too, but I refuse to get involved now. If you don't like someones song choice or think it's cheap, keep it to yourself and regard others feelings before you start a thread bitching about it.

Right, I'm getting really sick of this, I'm sorry. But, I havent said a thing, I've sat back and watched most of it, but its getting so so annoying to read. I joined this contest because I thought it would be fun and would be a good laugh and actually get excited about the possibility of my act maybe winning in a Eurovision-style contest. I don't think I would've joined if I saw everyone moaning because of certain entries, I've said it before, and it sounds like a horrible thing to say but "Its just a game on a computer". I know that a lot of people are very passionate about this, and those who have been in all 14 contests, aka Trashlexis, goodelta, The Fear etc. They are within reason to be passionate after putting so much time into a contest, but I'm disappointed that this has come to so much bad opinions on things.

I now, think that its fine that Simondly have chosen to send Taylor Swift because of what he said. His comments were along the lines of "I'm sorry, but I've only just heard this song and I really love it." I'm in support because he's only just discovered this, to him its a new song, and he is sending something that he really likes, and thats what important, I don't believe for one minute that Simon has sent this track because he thinks its an easy way to get a Top 10 finish, possibly even a win, its because he really likes the song he's sent.

At the end of the day, this game should be a good laugh and really good fun, not a debating place. So, come on, please put this whole thing to the side, and just enjoy BJSC 14, because I feel sorry for Peter, this is his first hosting of a contest, and people are, yes voicing their opinion, but almost taking the fun out of it by complaining. End of the story for me, hopefully the end of it all very soon.

agreed, which in essence is what I was apologising for, although an awful lot of people were questioning Love Story as a choice, not just the three of us (me, Trashlexis and The Fear), so I think Simon is owed an apology by about half of the participants here  I'd never really considered it like that to be honest, I was being quite naive and narrow minded, and it was really only after I had thought about it properly that I am willing to admit that I was in the wrong...I have taken this thing far too seriously in the last few months and you are completely right, it is just a 'contest on a computer' which I have got too far involved with and spend far too much of my spare time thinking about...

Voted. I'm sure I'll regret them because I've probably given songs too much/little/nothing but oh well, what's done is done.
I can't wait for the results, really hoping for a first decent finish. Come on :P this is my 8th contest, I deserve it :kink:

Surely just by qualifying that already is a decent finish

Well, I know it's better than 6 of my previous efforts :P...

Nick's record really puts into perspective what a good result is. The definition is normally top half in the final but I'm happy enough to make the final. Especially these days when practically half of the songs fail to reach it.

I already regret my votes and I can't remember what they were, I just know I should have given more to something.

for once I don't regret my votes and am particularly happy with my 12, 10 and 8 :D

I'm not sure about mine as yet, although I'm 100% sure they'll be 100% different from everyone else!

I'm not sure how Alcazar are going to do. Still totally certain I won't win (at least I hope not :heehee:). If all else fails, I've got a pretty brilliant, but completely weird entry lined up for BJSCXV to make sure I don't win again

Hey would a mod be kind and PM a reminder to the remaining countries in the red list? It takes so much longer when you can only send to one person at a time, and I may not have access to the internet again until tomorrow afternoon!
