thats a good thing?

There are those who would argue it is...some...not so much....all I'm saying is, in regards to a lot of this utterly useless drivel out todat that's called music, I consider it a good thing....Enya, and her producer, Nicky Ryan, are perfectionists, when it comes to the music they put out, and, imo, with all this stuff that's so cookie cutter in these days, even from 1990 on, has no depth, no richness, no character of any sort at all....hell, I could put out some useless drivel, and, I could sell a million copies....and I can't sing a lick....

The usage of Loxian (a made up language that only she has ever used in music), the layering of her voice. There is nobody that sounds like Enya out there, I can't think of anyone.

Sigur Ros sing in their own made up language, Hopelandic. OSHT. And they're amazing and Enya is not.

Coldplay are up there. Oasis are probably my least favorite. Guh. Lawlz at people dismissing rap / Radiohead. :/ Radiohead are overrated but far from boring. EXAMPLE:

One of my all time favorite songs.

Video isn't official so ignore it lawlz.

but thats down to personal taste.... its only drivel in your eyes, others would say enya produces pseudo hippy etherial cack! lol.. enya bores me, but not as much as other acts.

One could say the same for Coldplay, Radiohead, Oasis, The verve....anything 'produced' these days, from about 1990, imo, is all the same, all cookie cutter....there's no originality anymore, it seems....

I do agree, it boils down to personal taste, so, I'll not knock anymore, unless it seems appropriate, what someone else likes or dislikes....

One more thing, why has Enya been sampled by the likes of Mario Winans, if she's nothing more than pseudo hippy etherial cack?

Hmmm...

Coldplay ... boring? Yes

Radiohead? sorry no.

Oasis? Radio friendly terrace anthems... no

The Verve? Not in their prime i.e. pre-Urban Hymns.

Enya? Yes bores me rigid.

As for music post 1990 all cookie cutter - let's go for...

The Breeders

Sigur Ros

The Prodigy

Underworld

The Orb

Super Furry Animals

Primal Scream

The KLF

Bjork

PJ Harvey....

See, now I don't like Sigur Ros...so who can really say who's amazing and who isn't? Taste is subjective....

why not?.... there was that r n b act in the early 90's that sampled spandau ballets 'true'.. samples dont stick 'in genre'

I don't know what's wrong with Enya and Sigur Ros?

I find both at least alright especially Sigur Ros.

Hoppipola

Just my opinion here, but, if an artist or group were possessing any kind of talent whatsoever, they wouldn NEED to sample anyone else's music at all....they should be able, all on their own, to create a riff or beat completely original to themselves....as Enya is able to do....how many artists do you know, with little or no record label promotion, hasn't done any kind of live tours at all, has 4 Grammy awards, an Oscar nominated song, and, has sold, to date 75 million plus albums worldwide? Enya has, I know....but, I can't tell anyone here who or what kind of musiac to like, since that's all subjective....I, personally, would rather listen to Enya, than The Saturdays, who really haven't done much on the worldwide musical stage....the same might be said for Darius Danesh, the Scissors Sisters, Girls Aloud....just my opinion, as I said earlier in this post....

I think it's a shame that people think Run DMC exemplify pre-gangster rap - they were pretty rank when compared to truly great acts of the time like Public Enemy, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. Moreover, these acts wouldn't rap about the "things they're going to do to their ho", "how many diamonds they bought that day" or "when their imaginary gun went off by mistake".

They rapped about conscious issues, love and friendship and as to whether they were allowed to "kick it" or not.

Public Enemy are just as good, but I mentioned Run-D.M.C. purely because they are personal favourites of mine. :heehee:

lol.. statistics again... enya might well have outsold many of our pop artists, that makes her more popular, not 'better' as 'better' is subjective.

im not bothered how much 'talent' enya may or may not posses , ok respect for it but if i dont like the product then i simply dont like it. enya has done what queen, dire straights, fleetwood mac and many more have done before.... got herself a strong fan base (made up of mainly adults) who prefer 'tamer' material that doesnt challenge anything. ok fair enough, but having the weight of fans behind you/her doesnt make you/her 'better' or even 'right', to us who dont rate her :)
