I was wondering what has been the highest 1 week sales for a song and an album?

And does anyone think there could be a 1 million selling song in a week?

Will Young did a million with his first single 'Evergreen/Anything Is possible' in the first week. Not sure if that's the highest.

Not also sure about the album.

658,000 on Saturday 13/09/97, 572,000 in it's 4th week at No1 and 274,000 in it's final week at No1. The Spice Girls sold 321,000 copies of Spice Up Your Life to despatch it.

1997 seemed to be the year.

great year, but highly overrated. 98 and 99 had higher sales, but they didnt have a "Candle In The Wind" to inflate averages.

Yeah in the first half of 1997 No1 sales regularly dipped below the 100k mark: as low as 51k the week R Kelly moved 5-1-. It was only until Puff Daddy that sales stayed above 100k for the rest of the year! The biggest weekly sales of 1997 were:

No Doubt 195,000 (Don't Speak)

Spice Girls 248,000 (Who Do You Think You Are/Mama)

Hanson 260,000 (Mmm Bop)

Puff Daddy 167,000 (I'll Be Missing You, 3rd week at No1)

Oasis 377,000 (D'You Know What I Mean)

Will Smith 182,000 (Men In Black)

Elton John 658,000; 1,546,688; 1,067,000; 572,000; 274,000 (Candel In The Wind '97)

Spice Girls 321,000 (Spice Up Your Life)

Aqua 239,000 (Barbie Girl, 2nd week at No1)

Various Artists 385,082; 274,706 (Perfect Day)

Teletubies 317,000; 230,000 (Say Eh-Oh)

Spice Girls 252,000; 218,000 (Too Much)

comparing to now a days those sales are amazing what they sold in 1 week is more than number 1's sell now in total in many cases, still i would love to know how many ILL LEGAL downloads there are a week now,it would be great to know say a number 1's sales plus the maount illegaly downloaded
