Posted March 21, 200916 yr Scottish singer Leon Jackson, winner of The X Factor in 2007, has been dropped by his record label after one album. A spokeswoman for Sony BMG label Syco Music confirmed the 20-year-old was no longer with the company. "I had a great year and learned so much recording and releasing my album," said Jackson, who released his debut record, Right Now, last October. "Every artist knows these things can go either way. I'm really looking forward to my tour and doing more writing." Jackson won the 2007 series of The X Factor, beating 24-year-old Welsh favourite Rhydian Roberts in the final. Disappointing He went on to have a Christmas number one with the single When You Believe. However, his follow-up - Don't Call this Love - failed to reach the top spot last October. Right Now, released shortly afterwards, reportedly sold 130,000 copies. A spokeswoman for Syco, the Sony division to which Leon was signed, said that it "wished him well." Some fans have reacted angrily to the announcement, though, claiming the label did not do enough to promote Jackson's music.
March 21, 200916 yr     "Another one bites the dust....".... It's really a lame sort of argument to say that the label "didn't promote him"... I mean, come on, he had all that press hype and attention through being on X-Factor ffs.... He was certainly in the papers a LOT more than your average indie band, or even a lot of other Pop Stars..... Sony are notoriously very, very hard on their acts, if you dont shift the expected units or underperform, Sony will drop you, end of.....
March 21, 200916 yr We've just seen a thread like this innit? BTW, A big LOL for Leon. And I remember you. :kink: Edited March 21, 200916 yr by funmaker11

March 21, 200916 yr May I Just Say: EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was a twat, and wore awful clothes And he lacks personality ;)
March 21, 200916 yr i feel sorry for him yes i agree his music wasnt the best but simon never wanted him to win and i think the fact he won pissed simon off so he did nothing to help him, simon has always said rhydian should have won, fair enough rhydian had the bigger selling album but like andy abraham journey south etc rhtdian wont last ,leon should have been given time to develop after all he won a million pund recording deal that was the prize i doubt he used a while million up with the lack of pwrk they did with him, steve brookstein has spoke out simon did the same him as he wanted g4 to win and although i dont like steve brookstein he is right as in from now one everyone will be compared to leona and no one will match her success so their doomed before they start. Anyhow enough ranting but i want Ruth Lorenzo materail i think she is brilliant
March 22, 200916 yr Sigh. Well I didn't like him on X Factor and only wanted him to win to beat SD and Rhydian. But his album was ok. I quite liked a few songs on there. I hope he moves on and gets something else where they appreciate him unlike Cowell who never let the poor guy forget he didn't like him.
March 22, 200916 yr I watched a couple of his performances on X-Factor and man was he awkward. He just doesn't know how to perform. His album was boring as hell, too.
March 22, 200916 yr I wasn't his greatest fan and he shouldn't have won. Having said that ... none of them in the year he entered were that great (Rhydian included). But he did win the show and as such should have been given a little bit more support. And to announce he'd been dropped prior to his tour is just nasty. I really hope the guy goes on to have some success ... his voice isn't strong enough to make it ... hope he does it via some 'back-door' route. Norma

He wasn't/isn't star material, but it's cruel to announce this prior to his tour. OK he wasn't selling well, but I think they should have made a little more of an effort with him - five months from album release to dropping him seems very half-hearted. They used it as an opportunity to promote Rhydian at the same time, who appeared on a number of TV shows complete with (for a want of a better word) overinflated sales figures. It's sold around 400k not 500k.
