THE BILL was still big stuff, along with HEARTBEAT (and of course NICK BERRY), going out on Friday nights. Not to mention the Larkins et al in DARLING BUDS OF MAy ( Sunday nights). DENIS NORDEN was still spotting the gaffs, with IT`LL BE ALRIGHT ON THE NIGHT. WATCHING was the top sitcom with the lovely EMMA WRAY as BRENDA, and the not so lovely PAUL BROWN as the dopey MALCOM. So entitle "Watching" because they were both bird watchers, this was a Friday 8.30pm series. If you remember THE GINGERBREAD GIRL, hopefully you are still trying to forget it! If you don`t remember (congratulations)! No, it was a dodgy sitcom with JANET DIBLEY as Linda, a single mother who had to cope on her own. Janet also sung the theme tune, and it also Tracie (ex Coronation Street) Bennett, as well as the late PETER BUTTERWORTH`s son TYLER. TAGGART was at it`s original best with the late MARK MCMANUS as Jim. A couple of films with POLICE ACADEMY 4...getting slightly tedious after the first 3, and BLACK WIDOW. 999 was BBC`s real life accident/emergency series. YOU`VE BEEN FRAMED on series 3, and still with the brilliant, late, great JEREMY BEADLE...a man who was rather waisted on tv programmes like this, for he was an absolute genius. The 8th series of BLIND DATE ended, and then CILLA was back the next week with "SURPRISE SURPRISE". WISH YOU WERE HERE, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, and the return of 1970s quiz show "CELEBRITY SQUARES", took care of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights at 7pm on ITV...that was indeed good, because we did not have to suffer EMMERDALE, 500 times a week! Even more better, it didn`t even figure in the top 20 ratings, despite going out on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 7pm! :yahoo: The top albums in 1993: Conpiled by MRIB, for Independant Radio (Mon - Thurs) 1993. 01 NE SONGS OF FAITH AND DEVOTION - DEPECHE MODE 02 NE A REAL LIVE ONE - IRON MAIDEN 03 16 THEIR GREATEST HITS - HOT CHOCOLATE 04 01 COVERDALE/PAGE - COVERDALE/PAGE 05 02 ARE YOU GONNA GO MY WAY - LENNY KRAVITZ 06 08 AMAZING THINGS - RUNRIG 07 03 UNPLUGGED - ERIC CLAPTON 08 06 THE BODYGUARD - OST 09 05 INGENUE - KD LANG 10 NE TAXI - BRYAN FERRY 11 NE THE BLISS ALBUM - PM DAWN 12 10 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - REM 13 12 LIPSTICK ON YOUR COLLAR - VARIOUS 14 07 TEN SUMMONERS TALES - STING 15 04 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON 20TH ANNIVERSARY - PINK FLOYD 16 11 DIVA - ANNIE LENNOX 17 NE HOME INVASION - ICE T. 18 28 VERY BEST OF - RANDY CRAWFORD 19 27 ULTIMATE - GLENN MILLER 20 NE THE BUFFALO SKINNERS - BIG COUNTRY Pretty self-explanatry Album chart there. DEPECHE MODE heading the lot...will they do that in a couple of weeks? IRON MAIDEN giving the heavy stuff, as HOT CHOCOLATE took a almighty climb up to number 3.COVERDALE/PAGE...were DAVID COVERDALE (DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE), and JIMMY PAGE (once guitarist a la LED ZEPPELIN). Was LENNY KRAVITZ a re-invention of JIMI HENDRIX, as he mixed rock/r n`b, by playing proper instruments? RUNRIG gave Scotland more success. Old ERIC CLAPTON gave us his old slow-hand unplugged album. Down for THE BODYGUARD, and Whitney still proving popular. KD LANG, we know gave us her Lesbian influence (real name KATHERINE DAWN LANG)...I have a joke about Lesbians...a bit dodgy, but here goes...There are new pills for depressed Lesbians...What are they called?...Well, of course they are "Trygoinbaktoodix!" ;) Marching on...BRYAN FERRY was back with a top three album. PM DAWN came back 2 years too late, as we watched "LIPSTICK ON YOUR COLLAR", and bang there was an album, based around CONNIE FRANCIS`1959 top 5 single. LENNY KRAVITZ kept STING`s TEN SUMMONERS TALES off the top, why was it called by this title? GORDON SUMMONER being STING`s real name, of course. PINK FLOYD were in celebration of 1973, and the 3 day week, as THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON returned, 20 years on. Mixed bag of all sorts, as ANNIE LENNOX, ICE-T, RANDY CRAWFORD, GLENN MILLER, and BIG COUNTRY were at the bottom of the top 20 albums. I thought the music was terrible...i.e. the ripped off reggae sound, that wasn`t really reggae at all...It was all over the place SHAGGY, SHABBA, SNOW, SHINEHEAD, APACHE INDIAN...and the number one was a re-issue it got worse. THE BLUEBELLS 1984 top ten hit was back. Wasn`t "I`M FALLING", so much better than that? No wonder MADONNA had a "FEVER". 2UNLIMITED were celebrating the nauseating "NO LIMIT", as the biggest seller of the year so far! UGLY KID JOE sang HARRY CHAPIN circa 1974. SYBIL was GOOD AND READY. DAVID BOWIE, and CLIFF were the oldtimers of the chart. ROBIN S first time round. JADE gave us a better big r n`b hit of the year. GLORIA ESTEFAN was becoming slightly boring Gloria. WWF SUPERSTARS...less said...and why? ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT had problems. SUNSCREAM could have done better. JACK DUCKWORTH sang BARRY MANILOW (BILL TARMEY esquire). MICA PARIS had a hard comeback, 5 years on. WHITNEY HOUSTON covered CHAKA KHAN from THE BODYGUARD. LULU teamed up with BOBBY WOMACK before TAKE THAT! I would have liked to team up ICECUBE, MONIE LOVE, and SONIC YOUTH! JTQ was good...BARRY MANILOW re-did the 1978 classic "Copacabana"...DURAN DURAN went on. SUB SUB gave us more dance. The better stuff was definately at the bottom of the chart with BELOVED, GO WEST, SCREAMING JAY HAWKINS, PETER GABRIEL, JESUS JONES etc. There was some dodgy stuff outside the 50 with WORLDS APART doing TAVARES hit "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", and we well forget SARAH BRIGHTMAN`s "Captain Nemo". Hang on, for the up to minute top singles....and while you do, here come the top ten sweets in the UK! 10 DRUMSTICK LOLLIES (the one`s that pull your teeth out) 09 CHOCOLATE RAISINS 08 ICED GEMS (break your fillings on that icing) 07 STRAWBERRY LACES 06 MILKY CHOCOLATE ICE CREAMS (as opposed to the strawberry ones) 05 CHUPA CHUP LOLLIES 04 STRAWBERRY CREAMS 03 CABURY`S CREME EGGS (as opposed to other creme eggs) 02 PEANUT M + Ms (remember the proper peanut Treats)? 01 SKITTLES (another Treat rip-off) So, why is it that certain sweets/chocolate etc don`t taste like what they used to? For instance the original Mars Bar, Marathons, Galaxy Bars/Buttons...none of them taste like they did in the 70s. Whatever happened to the original taste of Penguins, is totally mind boggling. Personally my favourite sweet would be Rhubarb and Custards...and oh, what about Caramac...a real aquired taste, but then I remember Caramac Chocolate Digestive biscuits...what happened to them? They were delicious!

March 27, 200916 yr How ironic the Bluebells were #1 in 1993 this week which was featured as a theme tune to the Peugeot car ad, if Noisettes go to #1 this weekend which is also a theme tune to the Mazda car ad, that's exactly 16 years ago, now that is too spooky.

March 27, 200916 yr Cheers Dave. :cheer: I hope Steve Angello can overtake Kelly Clarkson by Sunday! Odd that download sales from other sites swung the No1 in Lady GaGa's favour last week but considering Kelly Clarkson has been No1 on Amazon albeit at 29p you'd think she might have climbed this week?

March 27, 200916 yr I hope Gaga holds on. I like that Noisettes song but it's not worthy of number one imo. Will be interesting to see if they shockingly clinch it at the last minute like 'Pokeherface' did last week.

Odd that download sales from other sites swung the No1 in Lady GaGa's favour last week but considering Kelly Clarkson has been No1 on Amazon albeit at 29p you'd think she might have climbed this week? Either way iTunes still have the biggest edge. Shena is number one in the HMV Download chart, but doesn`t even figure in a top 100, when added together. It really is a minority in other download sites, when compared to iTunes. The Amazon Download chart would have more takers than HMV absolutely, but it`s still small, when compared to iTunes monopoly.
March 27, 200916 yr I have been out of touch with music a bit atm but what on earth is Shena? Sounds like a dragqueen.
March 27, 200916 yr Author I have been out of touch with music a bit atm but what on earth is Shena? Sounds like a dragqueen. Well, do you remember a mob called "Full Intention?" They had a few minor hits. Shena appeared on "I`ll Be Waiting" in 2001. And she is a UK singer. The song is "Can`t Stop The Rain"....sounding very much like Chic, from the 70s.
March 27, 200916 yr wxIiAklZ13U Wow, love it  Gotta love disco. She was most recently featured on Alex Gaudino - Watch Out. And didn't she record a version of Let The Beat Hit 'Em?
