Due to the success of Survivors as a 2 part mini series over 2 nights on BBC1.

Cast members are Eddie Izzard, Dougray Scott, Brian Cox and Vanessa Redgrave which is expected to air later this year. Dougray Scott will play the role of Dr. Bill Masen, currently shooting in South-East England. The script was written by Patrick Harbinson who has worked on ER and Law & Order.

Some of the older members will remember the Cult series. I was a keen follower of the series back in its heyday on rare occasions freaked me out. I think this could work on the back of Survivors as a series as well. Now we just have to wait for the short lived series Timeslip to turn up, actually Timeslip was also considered a while back for a revamp, but never got off the ground.

I loved the original film and the book was on my reading list in my 'O' Level days. I was just talking about the book to my son ... I'm trying to get him to read some good books instead of the truly boring ones they give to kids in school these days. We watched Kes the other night and he loved it so Barry Hines' book is next on his list.

:o I'd completely forgotten about the original series of this. I too was sometimes a bit freaked out by it, but I bet if I saw it repeated now it would just make me laugh, like some of the old Doctor Who monsters. I wonder if there are any old clips on youtube? /me goes to investigate :D
I'm old enough to remember the original series. Scary or what.....

 According to the clips I found on youtube, the original series was from 1962 :o It must have been a re-run of it that I saw, because I wouldn't have seen it until the late 70's/early 80's.

There was a (not very good) film in 1962. The original BBC series was in the early eighties.

The film was from 1962 and the series was 1981. I actually thought the TV series was sh*te but I loved the film. OK - the effects weren't great but the suspense was terrific. The effects and the acting in the TV series was dreadful. With today's technology though ... they should have a far superior result ... lets hope the acting is up to scratch.

I actually watched an episode of this today on BBC4 - and it was absolute cr/\p! Even by 1981 standards! I remember laughing back then ... but my lad watched it today and was in hysterics!

I don't recall the television series, but, from what I've read here, I think the movie from the 1960's would be much better.....I actually liked the movie from back then....

Thank god someone else admits to liking the film! I thought it was fab. And considering the effects were done over 20 years before the TV series - it was excellent.

Starting tonight at 9pm and concludes tomorrow at 9pm over 2 consecutive days.

From what I've seen so far from the trailers it looks very impressive and updated, so be very very afraid, as I remember hiding behind the sofa watching the original series.

Did anyone else watch it  well... I found it very enjoyable to watch, it had the Cult viewing about it, the ending of the of the first episode was just pure classic, BBC drama at their best and well handled, the script was flowing with a neat backstory, can't wait for the conclusion tomorrow its looks pretty impressive.
I thought it was great other than for the final half an hour which was chaotic and descended into B-movie territory, but I'll stick with it since it started out well and Joely was fantastic.

Really enjoyed this. I see it hasn't gone down well on DS - surprise surprise - but I thoroughly enjoyed Dougray and Joely together.

Wasn't initially thrilled with Eddie Izzard's involvement but he was bearable.

Can't wait for pt. 2 tonight!

Part 2 was unmissable, it was BBC drama at their best, I love the whole script of the story, and the effects, the original was a bit rubbery, this 2 parter I felt was not long enough to deal with the characters of the cast. Dougray Scott pairing with Joely Richardson, made a wonderful pairing with the chemistry between them, Eddie Izzard became annoying at times. There was so much they could have explored if it was a 6 part series. I think there is room for a follow-up. I really enjoyed it.

The 1980s version was six 30-minute episodes so this was the same length.

I watched part 1 and quite frankly I thought it was terrible poor (like a TV version of that equally ghastly Stephen Spielberg remake of War Of The Worlds starring Tom Cruise), as it was vastly inferior to the BBC's BAFTA awarding winning 1980s version which was far more taught and terrifying when it was reshown over the summer on BBC4.

Last night I stuck to the Football and Darts. :coffee:
