Posted April 1, 200916 yr YouTube blocks musicvideos in Germany too "Popular video-sharing site YouTube says it has blocked some content in Germany because of a dispute with the country's artistic royalty-collecting body. Spokesman Henning Dorstewitz said Wednesday that YouTube has only blocked music videos released by record companies, not works by independent artists. A contract between Google Inc., YouTube's owner, and the German body that collects royalties for artists, GEMA, expired on Tuesday. Dorstewitz said GEMA wanted an interim contract to provide one cent to artists for each video played. He said that proposal was not tenable because YouTube does not charge its users. YouTube took similar action in Britain earlier this month after negotiations with that country's royalty collection body also broke down." Source: http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D979KQVG4.htm According to Musikmarkt GEMA wants 12 Euro cents for each videostream from now on whilst in the UK PRS For Music wanted to require from YouTube 0,23 Euro Cents per stream. I guess they go to far with these fees and whilst it is bad for us not able to watch official musicvideos on YouTube I'd rather not watch them, just download illegaly until they stop require so high fees/prices for videos from these video websites.
April 1, 200916 yr Then the rest of Europe will suffer from the cyberbullying of YouTube. :( I wonder if they could just shut YouTube for about 4 months instead. Edited April 1, 200916 yr by funmaker11

April 1, 200916 yr Author Then the rest of Europe will suffer from the cyberbullying of YouTube. :( I wonder if they could just shut YouTube for about 4 months instead. I can fully understand YouTube though, so I wouldn't say it's their fault. those bodies wants more and more money for the official videocontent, but YouTube provides those videos for free to all of us. So don't blame YouTube. You wouldn't pay too much money either for something you give away for free I guess.
April 1, 200916 yr Actually GEMA says they didn't ask for 12 cents per click but 1 cent. The bigger problem seems to be that they want large view statistics from Youtube so that they can give the money to the artists who's videos were actually watched.

The businessweek report only says 1 cent should go to the artist, but doesn't mention anything about the total fee. The Musikmarkt report though writes about 12 cents / stream. http://www.musikmarkt.de/site/start.php3?b...;il=1&pid=1
April 1, 200916 yr But Gema said that wasn't true and that they never said anything about 12 cents. Anyway, 1 cent is still too much for youtube.
