Anyway, am I the only one who thinks SAF is losing it? On Thursday he attacked the BBC pundits Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson & Radio 5 Live commentator Alan Green of pro-Liverpool, anti Man U bias. Then on Friday he goes on his SIXTH verbal assault on Rafa Benitez/Liverpool FC of 2009.

Any neutral would think that Rafa Benitez's notebook has got under SAF's skin? Maybe he would be better off focusing on his own side's rapid decline in form? To think Paddy Power bookies paid out on Manchester United winning the Premiership League title back in March before their unexpected dip in form; yet they are now just one point ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand with 8 Games to play.

Personally I hope SAF keeps the insults coming as he is doing a great team talk in the Liverpool dressing room; and carries on ignoring the facts that:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo has reverted back to the lazy petulant child of his first season at Old Trafford and is no longer playing like the best player in the world that he was last season.

2. Like David Beckham beforehand; continues to fail to get the best out of his best player IMHO Wayne Rooney; then wonders why he always plays better for his country then he does for his club; and continues to lose his temper playing for Manchester United.

3. Continues to play the lazy statuesque Berbatov (any manager who gets rid of the brilliant Ruud Van Nisterooy to replace with the inferior Bulgarian striker needs their head read) ahead of the superior hard working Tevez.

4. Continues to play the over the hill past the sell by-date Paul Scholes and Gary Neville ahead of superior younger talent.

Once Chelski got it badly wrong with their managerial appointment at the start of the season; Manchester United with the squad in depth they possess should have run away with the League title by a margin around 15 points. The very fact they they will fail to do this is down entirely to the fact that their manager is losing the plot (as can be evidenced by his recent rantings (Liverpool are only the 4th best side in the Premiership; Manchester United were much the better side in their 1-4 home defeat against Liverpool; Carrick is the best midfielder in the Premiership; he expected to meet Bayern Munich in the ECL Final ); etc.

Today I fully expect Liverpool to drop points against their long-term managerial jink/nemesis Sam Allardyce (and Liverpool have an awful record playing on the eve of the Hillsborough anniversary & with Steven Gerrard's groin injury (he is not fit to start) I would be relieved if we don't lose); Whilst if Manchester United can't beat a Sunderland side in free fall very comfortably then there is something very wrong with them.

So if Liverpool are still one point behind or better after today's fixtures then that would be a massive result IMHO.

But the way Man Utd's fans celebrated beating a side last Sunday who had not won on their previous seven fixtures as if they had won the ECL Final suggests they are losing it as much as their manager.

The bottom line is that Manchester United should (have) walk(ed) the Premiership this season. If they somehow manage to throw it away it will be the biggest collapse in Premiership history ever eclipsing Kevin Keegan's Newcastle and would suggest to me that like the greatest British manager ever Brian Clough in his final years at Nottingham Forest that their manager is finally losing the plot; like a lot of great managers in the past eventually did (Sir Matt Busby; Sir Alf Ramsey; Don Revie.....).

Whilst I agree with some of your points (Ronaldo being absolutely useless, giving away 2 vital goals in 2 big matches, shouldn't have bought Berbatov in the first place) there are some seriously bizarre aspects of this post.

Firstly SAF responded to Rafa's baffling rant at both SAF and MUFC as far as I could see. It was in no way unprovoked and Sir Alex certainly was not the one who rekindled this war of words. A rant that took place in preparation for Liverpool's calamitous performance aganist Chelsea that will no doubt end in them exiting the Champions League this year. A rant in which he talked about United being 'scared' of Liverpool. A rant in which he referenced them being within touching distance of United. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't Rafa be preparing for his CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (not premier league) tie that wasn't even against Manchester United but instead against Chelsea? And again as far as I could see this SAF 'rant' that you talk about was basically him saying pretty much the same as me. Why is Rafa so insistent on concentrating on Manchester United so close to a key fixture? "He's got a European tie (against Chelsea) and he's talking about Alex Ferguson. Fantastic! I didn't know I was that important!" He then went on to talk about Chelsea for the rest of the piece. That's a rant? LOL oh dear. Again the idea of United being obsessed with Liverpool shows its true colours.

Secondly in regards to beating Villa, why would we not celebrate? Many saw it as the turning point that would boost our confidence for the remainder of the season (the Porto match says maybe that idea was flawed..), but to be losing 2-1 and then to come back to win it within the last ten minutes in such a crucial match, I think it would be something if Utd fans didn't celebrate like maniacs. Similarly, to celebrate in the same way Liverpool fans celebrated when they beat Utd. And proceeded in referencing the event weeks after the match had taken place. Both crucial events in the title race. To say that United fans are loosing it after celebrating such a big win is a bit

However credit where it's due, Liverpool played extremely well today. Didn't catch the last goal but Torres' goal was absolutely sublime and Agger's was a bit of a screamer too.

Looking ahead now, here's hoping Stoke can hammer Newcastle in the late kick-off today and keep the black and whites firmly lodged in the bottom three.

Rafa Benitez was asked the question and he answered it without raising his voice. It is certainly far less ridiculous than SAF proclamations that Liverpool are only the 4th best side in the Premiership; that Manchester United were the better side when they had their backsides kicked at home 4-1 by Liverpool; that Bayern Munich "are the biggest threat" to Manchester United to stop them winning the ECL; that Carrick is the best midfielder in the Premiership this season; etc.

Besides at the start of the season and on numerous occasions throughout the season Rafa Benitez has reiterated that Liverpool's priority this season was to end Liverpool's drought of lifting the Premiership title. Therefore I like 92% of Liverpool fans who were asked on their official website at the start of the season would much rather see Liverpool win the domestic League title than become Champions of Europe (again). Hence I'd much rather do the double over Chelsea in the PL (which Liverpool subsequently managed taking 6 points out of 6) than knock Chelsea out of the ECL in which they should have won the Final last season.

In the previous 5 League fixtures Aston Villa lost at home to Chelsea; drew at home against relegation candidates Stoke City; lost to Man City; lost at home to Spurs & got beaten by 5 goals by "the 4th best side in the Premiership" © Sir Alex Ferguson.

Therefore against a side in a hopeless run of form in freefall from a Champions League place to struggling to hang onto a UEFA Cup place... to only win at home by one goal in injury time is quite frankly embarrassing & pathetic for a side that had gone 14 Premiership Games without conceding a Premier League goal.

Compare that to Liverpool whom this season have drawn at home and away against the mighty Stoke City; drew at home against Fulham; Man City; West Ham; Hull City; Everton; .... an away win in injury time against the same side whom had barely a week earlier had beaten Manchester United was a massive result.

Still Liverpool have come through a tricky fixture today by winning 4-0.

Hopefully Sir Alex Ferguson will be going a deeper a shade of red in the Stadium of Light versus Sunderland (which they should win very very easily ....... already 1-0 up Paul Scholes) thinking about the next mind game/insult he can use against Rafa Benitez instead of doing the job that quite frankly if I was a Manchester United fan I would be getting very aggravated about: keeping a control of the petulant brat Cristiano Ronaldo to actually make him run back to help defend when his side loses possession instead of standing their bleating hands on hips complaining to the officials/the whole world; and trying to do something about the defence that had earlier gone 14 League Games without conceding a goal that has now conceded 10 goals in their last 5 PL matches (& 8 in the last 3).

Still if you Manchester United fans want to continue to kid yourselves that Sir Alex Ferguson is winning the mind games against Rafa Benitez; then maybe you need to remember Rafa Benitez did the same thing in the 2003-4 La Liga season when unfancied Valencia were behind the Spanish giants Real Madrid (managed by Carlos Queiroz) & Barcelona (managed by Frank Rijkaard) at the Winter break that season. .... and continued occasionally stirring the pot for the remainder of the season leading to Valencia winning La Liga.

In short Rafa Benitez knows what he is doing; and as far as I'm concerned by how Liverpool have closed the gap on Manchester United & Chelsea this season he is definitely going in the right direction.

steal? like we had to persuade them much

steal? like we had to persuade them much

Carrick was happy at Spurs then Gary Neville tapped him up on England duty and gave him a Man Utd shirt, after that he wanted out, Neville wouldn't have done it on his own he was doing it for OWF

This crap between Fergie and Benitez is just childish. I don't think Benitez started it - its always been there. Fergie just hates Liverpool with a passion. All goes back to his Aberdeen days when he ws manager and we fucked his team over one day. Alan Hansen and Lawro are not biased towards Liverpool at all generally. Hansen can be sometimes I agree but not often, and Lawro never is. Gergie should try watching Setanta if he wants to see some Man Utd pundit bias and constant Liverpool bashing.

Anyway to back up my point i've just seen that Fergie said he will retire if he gets two more European Cups. Funny how two more would equal the amount that Liverpool have.

i take pride in such things, and CT, don't kid yourself, he's an average footballer, just like your club

So you would be happy if he left ?

I reckon should do a swap, Carrick for Bale ^_^

  • Author

why? we have the world's best left-back

and i'd swap him for a lot of players in his position in the world, Arteta, Essien, Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard... list is endless

I think it's more relevant that two more wins would give him four to Bob Paisley's three.

Paisley will always be remembered for winning it 3 times in 9 years. Fergie can never eclipse that.
