I find myself putting a Stevie Wonder CD in the car player almost all the time now! I just love 'I Wish' - couldn't help laughing at that poor guy last week on America's Got Talent playing the same song ... he murdered a classic!

Yes that's the one. It was going quite well until he started singing.

Yeah Johnny Cash was good - tho my best of album of his would have to go in the 'albums that you've hid so they won't get mixed up with your dad's country & western collection but now have lost in your room' thread

Jem for me too, played it yesterday for the first time in ages. Both Dido albums, played for the first time in ages this week.

Lately I've been listening to the Jem album, does she come under specialist? I've posted her new song in pop forum :o wasn't sure which it was to go into?

well seeing she's had popular success - either (tho she will be probs also put into Pop due to her gender  and not put with any David Gray threads - well seeing as they are both signed to the Dave Matthews Band 's ATO Records and are targeting a similar audbase)...she's a singer-songwriter and obv Trip hop, Folk and New Wave-styled electronica are respresented in here....

Jemma Griffiths (born June 18, 1975 in Penarth, Wales), better known as Jem, is a Welsh singer-songwriter known for her eclectic musical stylings. Her debut album, Finally Woken, includes elements of rock, New Wave-styled electronica and trip-hop. Along with electronic producer Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Frou Frou), she wrote the song "Nothing Fails", which was later reworked by Madonna and appeared on her 2003 American Life album. Her second album Down to Earth is to be released in September 2008

Jem is brilliant, I really like her music. I have big expectations from her second abum "Down to Earth"

tho she will be probs also put into Pop due to her gender

Maybe 2 or 3 songs are Pop (Just a Ride, Wish I) but the rest are rock (24, Falling For You), reggae ("Save Me"), trip hop/electronica (They, Easy Way Out, Come on Closer) or folk (Flying High) even a classical piece of music ("They" has a sample from Bach)

She has an eclectic mix of (almost) all musical genres

PS

1. I wonder why she (or her record label?) "forgot" to release "24" (her best song IMO) as a single...

2. Her real birthday is 18 May 1976 (May not June, like on IMDb)

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love, The Dreaming, Never For Ever, The Sensual World

Yazoo - Upstairs at Erics

Depeche Mode - Music for the Masses

Cocteau Twins - Treasure

Pink Floyd - Animals

Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman

The Beatles - Revolver, White Album

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead, Strangeways Here We Come

The Lover Speaks - The Lover Speaks

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Peepshow

Sisters of Mercy - First And Last And Always

Duran Duran - Rio

Human League - Dare

The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

Blondie - Parallel Lines

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

The Clash - London Calling

Depeche Mode - Violator

U2 - War

Sisters of Mercy - Floodland

minus U2 and Duran, a corking list. 'Dare' still sounds as great today as it did in 1981 - a massively important album.

Been listening to My Bloody Valentine's entire back catalogue (including the REALLY early stuff with the different vocalist, and "Ecstasy and Wine" mini album) on my mobile recently in anticipation of the Tuesday night show at the Roundhouse in Camden..... Still sounds absolutely astounding...... and just way ahead of its time..... I can honestly count on the fingers of about one hand (with three fingers missing...) the amount of bands around from this era that can step up to what MBV were doing with "Loveless" and "Isn't Anything"....

Siobhan Bonaghy - Revolution In Me (very promising talent, but has never really ignited)

Q-Tip - Amplified (Very much a long lost gem, worth buying for 'Breathe And Stop' alone)

Basement Jaxx - Kish Kash (with every listen, it sounds that bit better every time)

Kelis - Kaleidoscope (Remember when the Neptunes were, y'know, good?)

Kylie - Impossible Princess (Her most important album, but least successful).

Basement Jaxx - Kish Kash (with every listen, it sounds that bit better every time)

a masterpiece - their overlooked classic IMO - by far their greatest work.

It is, although it has taken a long time for me to persevere with. If it wasn't Basement Jaxx, I would've probably let it gather dust. It was released in 2003 when dance music was apparently dead, so they basically thrived on new opportunities. Listening to it still brings new sounds that I didn't pick up on previously, but it's certainly less immediate than 'Remedy'.

Another classic (and brilliant) album is Dissintegration by The Cure

There are some fantastic songs like:

Pictures of You

Love Song

Lullaby

I remember how great it was listening Roxette - Joyride album.

sorry but i can't read that without keeping a straight face   - you're not really Darren Hayes under an assumed name are you
