We are sad to tell everyone that Andy is no longer with the band.

Nick O’Malley, who stood in for Andy while he was absent from the recent tour of North America, shall carry on playing bass for the remaining shows this summer.

We have been mates with Andy for a long time and have been through some amazing things together that no one can take away. We all wish Andy the very best.

Alex, Jamie and Matt.

Oh well :( At least it doesn't look like it's going to threaten the band itself in any way. ;)

Well they became big VERY quickly ;) and so they're all over the place and so maybe it was just too much too soon for him. :(

:( Oh Dear. This coukd be the beginning of the end :( .

The Kooks had a similar experience like this, but they came back good.

I can understand why he's left, as the they became famous very quickly and he hasn't really had time to ajust to the fame.

Errm, that's not strictly true. These guys have been playing together since they were kids and they know each other intimately, this is a serious body blow to an up and coming band. The Stone Roses never recovered after losing Reni and imploded (and he was 'only' the drummer....)

At best what will happen is that AM will go the way the Manics and Oasis did when they lost members - just going through the motions and never again having the spark that made them so vital to their original fans.....

Sorry peeps, you've got not very much to look forward to..... :(

I'm hoping thats not true :( .

I mean they've being playing music toghether for four years I think which is a long time, but i'm also pretty sure that they have know there new tempoary bassist as well.

Like I said before the same thing happened to The Kooks. Alright The Kooks are not as big as The Stone Roses or Oasis, but the lead singer and the guitarist set up the band, and The Kooks have just gone on from strenght to strenght.

The Kooks are a bad example for me dude, I find them incredibly irritating....

But, didn't The Kooks thing happen before they became big...? Not really such a big deal, but it becomes a big deal when you're a band like The Stone Roses, Oasis or the Manics and are well into your stride.....

Yeah they weren't really a big band, but the split really effected the lead singer and they were all set to split up before christmas, but they got perswaded them to carry on.

Don't wish to appear insensitive or rude, but that's utter tosh. Andy is a great bass player and a founder member of the band. And the lads go back a long way. And may I state I am upset he's left (I'd be even more upset if he was actually pushed like some have been hinting, including, allegedly, Andy's brother on another forum). But, fact is, from a musical point of view this impacts very little on the band. Love him or loathe him, Alex is the real musical beacon in this band, you only have to check out the writing credits for just about ALL the songs. And it's not as if they are drafting in some Californian session musicisn to take his place, O'Malley is ALSO a long-standing friend of the band and indeed also lives in High Green. Whilst sad, this news is not the end for the Monkeys' creativity and brilliance as a band. And no amount of doom mongerers will change that fact...

It wouldn't happen to be something to do with the record company if Andy was alledgedly pushed to leave the band  .

Well, Reni wasnt exactly the lynchpin of the Stone Roses (Ian Brown and John Squire were), they also got in a mate of theirs to fill in the drumming seat, and look what happened there, complete disaster... A founder member leaving a band is never a good thing, especially if these rumours you're talking about have any truth in them...

It doesn't surprise me that cracks are already beginning to appear, this always seems to happen with sudden, meteoric rises. The band members can't handle the pressure, some quit, some go totally off the rails and turn to drink and drugs (eg Pete Doherty), some disappear without trace (Richie Edwards), some kill themselves (Kurt Cobain) and more often than not, the band implodes under the media pressure (Stone Roses, At The Drive In, Libertines, and countless others...).

It aint being a doom-monger mate, it's called actually knowing what I'm talking about....

You are absolutely right, of course, you really do know what you are talking about. To the bands you've listed who've imploded on losing a founding-member(s), add The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Manic Street Preachers (you've actually mentioned their main man WITHOUT going on to say they achieved massive success AFTER he went AWOL) . Just because it's happened to some bands, doesn't neceassarily mean it's going to happen to ALL bands.

The Beatles lost Best and Sutcliffe before making their big break, so that doesn't really count; With Pink Floyd, they had the massive egos of Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters to keep them afloat, The Manics went totally sh!te, bloated and commercial after Ritchie left - they might as well have split up because creatively they were dead and just go through the motions; and if you're talking about the wretched excuse for "The Who" that exists now with Daltrey, Townsend and a bunch of session musos trying to make up for the lack of John Entwhistle and Keith Moon, I hardly think that even qualifies as the real Who....

Scott you are right about the points you made, yes but we only see really... For the moment I'm positive considering how it's Alex who does nearly everything with the writing but I just wonder if it's going to affect the summer release of 'Leaving Before The Lights Come On'.

I don't think it will but, on a worse note; could this affect the supposive release of their second album in January :o

Just read in the NME that apparently he was sacked :( and O'Malley is expected to be confirmed as the replacement after the festivals.

Sacked :o .

O'Malley seems like a good bassist and would be a great permananent replacement seen as he knows the band already.
