According to the band's official website, the frontman, real name Richard Palmer, died earlier this month at hospital in Oxford after suffering a heart attack and developing pneumonia. The Barron Knights scored a number of UK hits in the '60s, '70s and '80s with their satirical comedy pop songs and parodies. D'Mond left the group four years ago after suffering a serious fall. In a statement, the rest of the band said: "All of us Barron Knights are devastated at losing a friend who was a member of the band for 46 years. "He had a great singing voice and was very much a part of all our hit records and was a great performer on stage." "We missed him such a lot," founder member Pete Langford told the BBC. "He was the guy who sang all the serious stuff. He had a great voice and he was part of the team." The Barron Knights formed in October 1960 after previously being named The Knights Of The Round Table. They would go on to tour with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and scored Top 10 hits with the singles 'Call Up The Groups', 'Pop Go The Workers', 'Merry Gentle Pops' and 'A Taste Of Aggro'. The group's last hit came in 1980, when 'Never Mind The Presents' charted at number 17. D'Mond's funeral is scheduled to take place in Dunstable on Monday. scource...digital spy.
