ROBBIE's DAD IS A POP STAR ; Williams Senior in Band's Video

May 30, 2009

ROBBIE Williams was so impressed by a new UK band that he sent his dad to star in their first video.

After hearing the catchy music of new Stoke on Trent band The Cameleonz, Robbie called the band "cool" and played the songs to his pals and his dad Pete.

When the group - Marcus Birks and Lis Lawrence - found out that Robbie loved their material through their video director Chris Stone, who is Robbie's cousin, they asked him to make a cameo on their debut video.

Robbie's writing and recording commitments meant he was unable to do so, but his dad Pete took up the gauntlet and now stars in the video for their first single, Should I Stay, which is released on June 22.

Band member Marcus, who took part in TV show Bad Lads Army - and won the award for best new recruit - is chuffed that Robbie and his family have been so supportive.

He said: "Pete was totally professional on the day and we'd love to have his, and Robbie's, continued support and hope he will feature in future videos.

"Clearly, we can see that talent runs in the family."

Since the summer of 2004, when Marcus took part in Bad Lads Army, which saw 30 young lads undergoing the basic training of the Fifties national service, his life changed dramatically.

The experience gave him the clarity and passion to re-ignite his true desire - music.

Upon returning to his home turf in Stoke, the determined Marcus wasted no time in hitting the circuit of the pubs and working men's clubs of the Midlands and north of England.

It was during this time that he met Lis, who was performing in productions for a local operatic society and, by 2006, The Cameleonz were wowing audiences up and down the country. From that moment, The Cameleonz have been living a whirlwind existence.

Having already supported the likes of Shayne Ward and Simon Webbe on tour, the band most recently hit Scotland to perform to fans as the support for Scots X Factor winner Leon Jackson on his national tour.

They plan to return to Edinburgh Festival Hall on June 7, just before the launch of their debut single later that month.

Robbie Williams and Amy Winehouse back our Hope Not Hate campaign

By Ros Wynne-Jones 29/05/2009

Robbie and Amy back our campaign

Some of Britain's top musicians yesterday gave their support to our Hope not Hate crusade.

Robbie Williams, Amy Winehouse and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd are among those who have signed a letter calling on Mirror readers to vote "for hope" in the European Elections next Thursday.

As our double-decker campaign bus nears the end of its journey, members of the Featured Artists Coalition wrote: "Some parties standing for election don't appreciate our diverse heritage the way we do. Music is a triumph of hope over hate. That's why we urge you to vote for hope."

Billy Bragg and Kate Nash also signed it.

STARRING ROLE FOR ebay

Jun 1 2009 Lindsay Clydesdale

As royals reveal love of website, we look at the celebs who use it

Internet auction site eBay has more than 15million users and now it has the royal seal of approval.

Prince Charles has revealed that his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is a frequent buyer of knick-knacks from the site.

Hrh found she was frequently recognised while browsing in shops and turned to the world's most successful auction house to do her shopping in peace.

Camilla's spokesman said she wouldn't be shopping under her own name or official title, but Jeff Kroll, one of the founders of eBay, is delighted the company has been linked with the Royal Family.

He said: "There is a rather famous person who told me recently that his wife buys things on eBay, and that would be the Prince of Wales."

Camilla is said to snap up bargains online for her son and daughter from her first marriage, Tom and Laura, but has doubtless made a few purchases for herself and her husband.

The eBay website has revolutionised second hand shopping since its launch in 1995, and the sheer scale of items for sale on the site makes it possible to buy almost anything.

Every day, there are more than 70million items available to buy - everything from CDs for a penny to a £3million Gulfstream jet, the most expensive item sold on the site so far.

Celebrities have used it to raise money for charity or clear out their mansions, but just as many are avid users who scour the pages for bargains and obscure finds.

Jonathan Ross and Noel and Liam Gallagher are regular users of the site, as are Girls Aloud and Carol Vorderman.

A handbag belonging to Margaret Thatcher became the most expensive charity item ever sold on eBay when it raised £103,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

Several "used" items have turned up on eBay, including drinks glasses raised by various celebrities.

Christina Aguilera's used bathwater and thong raised £810.

Cherie Blair bought aWinnie the Pooh clock for 99p for her youngest child Leo's nursery. She also treated herself to a bargain pair of pink sandals she spotted while online.

Myleene Klass launched her modelling and presenting career off the back of the white bikini she wore to shower in the jungle while taking part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

She later auctioned the iconic twopiece from Rigby and Peller on eBay, raising £7000 to help victims of the collapsed hamper company Farepak.

A larger-than-life size portrait of Spice Girl Mel B and her first husband, Jimmy Gulzar, received no bids the first time it appeared on the site.

Several months later, when it was again submitted, it attracted just12 bids and sold for £1225.

Actress Keira Knightley needed the perfect red-carpet gown when she was nominated for Best Actress at the 2006 Oscars. She chose a claret taffeta silk dress by Vera Wang and, rather than letting it gather dust in her wardrobe, later auctioned it on eBay, raising £4300 for Oxfam work in East Africa.

Some celebrities are less selfless.

Former Hollyoaks and Love Island star Paul Danan auctioned a date with himself online, to celebrate the release of film flop Date Movie.

News-reader Trevor McDonald put a dinner date with himself up for bids, while singer James Blunt went one further and auctioned a date with his sister.

Fortunately, this ended happily when she and the top bidder ended up getting married.

Baywatch star Pamela Anderson auctioned shoes for a landmine charity, while Oasis singer Liam Gallagher donated a signed guitar and jazz singer Jamie Cullam gave away his piano.

Sharon Osbourne got in on the act, giving away a diamond brooch that had been a present from rocker husband Ozzy.

Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell is famous for his love of skintight trousers. So, when he offered to donate a pair of his favourites for a kids' charity, they were delighted.

Hopefully, he gave them a wash before posting them on to the winner.

Camilla might be the first royal to buy on eBay, but her mother-in-law beat her to using the site. Prince Andrew auctioned tickets for the enclosure at Royal Ascot, which were donated by the Queen.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair donated a tour of 10 Downing Street before he moved out and Gordon Brown moved in.

Dancing On Ice host Holly Willoughby is also an avid eBay user and spends hours browsing for clothes. She's at least partly responsible for the fact that a handbag is sold on the site every three seconds and an item of women's clothing every five seconds.

Lindsay Lohan loves surfing the web for unusual clothes and has a sunglasses habit that she feeds with regular bargain buys from eBay.

Singer Sophie Ellis Bexter is another who mixes high street buys with eclectic items she gets secondhand online.

The fun-loving mum has also bought a giant pinball machine with her eBay account.

Like many of us, RobbieWilliams has a kitchen full of gadgets he has no idea how to use.

The singer, who has just moved back to the UK, got rid of some of them, including popcorn and bread makers, by putting them up for sale on the site.

During an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay made one failing chef sell his flashy BMW with its licence plate "A1 CHEF" on the site. The car went, but Ramsay later tried and failed to sell the plate to his chef mate Gary Rhodes.

Blur and Gorillaz star Damon Albarn is a keen supporter of "green" issues. So when he was getting rid of furniture, he made sure most of it went to a good home and not a landfill site. His electric-blue 12-piece sofa was sold on eBay.

When your husband is an A-list Hollywood star, he probably expects more than a voucher from HMV for his birthday.

Tom Cruise's wife Katie Holmes has solved the problem of what to buy by hunting down rare edition books on the site, while Jennifer Garner bought an antique barber's chair for her husband, Ben Affleck.
