May 4, 200916 yr ^ Disagree. He knows talent and he's honest. As a businessman & a TV personality he might be successful & entertaining but as a judge of music this guy has not got a clue. As UK head of BMG he signed 5ive, Westlife, Robson & Jerome, and Ultimate Kaos. He also released several novelty recordings featuring the likes of wrestlers of the World Wrestling Federation, Teletubbies, Zig and Zag and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, that were huge successes. Hardly a sign of great artistic quality is it? However as head of BMG he famously rejected "... Baby One More Time" for 5ive; which when recorded by Britney Spears as her debut single sold over 13 million records becoming the 12th Best Selling Record of All-Time. He also dumped Kylie Minogue from her record contract (with BMG's Dance offshoot Deconstruction) and famously said "... she is finished as a pop artist and should return to what she was good at ... acting". Whilst in his autobiography titled "I Don't Mean to be Rude, but..." he showed his true music tastes by saying about Britain's most influencial male and female artist of all time (David Bowie & Kate Bush) "I think they are the most overrated artists of all time. I don't get what people see as great about them or their music. To me they are just pretentious and can't sing properly". Whilst on the most influential & successful group of all time (The Beatles) "I liked some of their early stuff ..... but their later stuff is self indulgent and weird. Although I like John's Imagine & Paul's The Long & Winding Road. But I think Queen & Abba were far better and made far better records & songs than the Beatles". Whilst he is was similarly critical of icons like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Smiths, The Cure & especially Bjork labelling her the worst singer he has had the misfortune of hearing labelling her work as "not music". Still his all time favourite artists are/were Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley ("The Ultimate Pop Idol"), Michael Jackson ("The great showman I have ever witnessed"), Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston. In short if you are not a boyband wannabe or a Mariah Houston, Simon Cowell would not have a clue what you are or if you are any good. Little wonder Victoria Hesketh (Little Boots) failed to get through the auditon at X-Factor 4 years ago, as he would not know artistic talent if it looked him in the eye and kicked him up the backside. Personally X-Factor is a joke whilst a large & growing amount of songwriters refuse to have their compositions played on that show because it lacks credibility (Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney (post Beatles), Pete Townsend, Ray Davies, Paul Weller, Kate Bush, Morrissey/Marr, Martin Gore, Robert Smith, John Lydon, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, etc) Still as David Bowie best summed up Simon Cowell in his song from his last album (Reality): Dh7Y_OstUnA David Bowie - New Killer Star Excerpt of Lyrics: Just a small thin chance Like seeing Jesus on Dateline Let's face the music and dance Don't ever say I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready I'll never said I'm better, I'm better, I'm better Don't ever say I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready I'll never said I'm better, I'm better, I'm better, I'm better than you ...... I'm thinking now I got a better way I discovered a star I got a better way Ready, set, go I got a better way A new killer star I got a better way Ready, set, go I got a better way The stars in your eyes

Cowell knows how to make money, but he sure doesn't know how to make music...... Which, IMO, would tend to be a slight handicap for someone in his chosen profession surely..... I find it absolutely hilarious that he slags off the likes of Bjork, Dylan, Springsteen, Moz, etc, and then turns around and give us such "gems" like Robson and Jerome, Ultimate Kaos and Zig and Zag..... Something else I find hilarious about X-Factor - the "Swing Week".... I mean, WTF...???? I never knew that "swing" had a larger musical presence in the musical landscape of 2009 than, oh, I dunno, Rock, Indie, Metal, Dance......
May 4, 200916 yr  what bull  MD was nothing near to "100% rock" I suggest you have a listen to proper rock music before you label MD "100% rock" Also, the 13y.o. prodigy still remains to be JoJo, 5 years later. Youngest ever person to have a number 1 in the US. I classed it a rock. It's not heavy metal, but it's far from bubblegum pop! Exactly   Beat me to it I was about to seriously ridicule him but you beat me to it Why do you have to ridicule anyone? I've had it now... GRIMLY FIEND, you're w*n**r, a pr*ck and your full of $h!t. No one is coming to your rock forum (yes, i know what it's called) and bad mouthing your favourite singers. It's disrespectful and some people take it from the heart! Why you have to bad mouth I don't know, but it's getting old so I won't be replying to you anymore!

GRIMLY FIEND, you're w*n**r, a pr*ck and your full of $h!t. re****..... And I actually mean that..... If this is the way you "argue" to people who are just addressing your points and debating, then I'm not gonna give you any kind of respect at all...... Believe me, if you said that to someone in the street, you'd have a handful of teeth right now..... Actually learn a bit of manners..... Heated debate is one thing, that is something else.....
May 4, 200916 yr btw.. do you ever talk about something other than those genre's in the POP forum? btw.. I dont regard this as a Pop Thread at all, it's BLATANTLY about a REALITY TV SHOW.............. Considering the actual original post is about an OPERA singer.... Not exactly "Pop" is it....? DUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH..... -_-
May 4, 200916 yr I don't want to be pedantic .... but Jojo only reached a peak of USA#3 with Too Little Too Late. The youngest female to write & perform a USA#1 hit (Foolish Beat), which she also produced remains Debbie Gibson from 1988. No, its pretty much confirmed that she is the youngest. It was Number One on US Mainstream Top 40 which makes her the youngest person to ever have a number one hit in the US at 13. She is also the youngest person to ever be nominated for a VMA
May 5, 200916 yr No, its pretty much confirmed that she is the youngest. It was Number One on US Mainstream Top 40 which makes her the youngest person to ever have a number one hit in the US at 13. She is also the youngest person to ever be nominated for a VMA I think you'll find the official chart in the USA is the Billboard Hot 100. As it only made #3 on that chart, then she has not had a USA#1 on the chart that counts & hence she is not the youngest singer/songwriter to have scored a USA#1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
May 5, 200916 yr I classed it a rock. It's not heavy metal, but it's far from bubblegum pop! Like Kelly was ever bubblegum pop  There are a few songs on there with a rockier edge and influence but no where near being classed as rock.
May 7, 200916 yr Like Kelly was ever bubblegum pop  There are a few songs on there with a rockier edge and influence but no where near being classed as rock. In reality Joao, KC is really a more contemporary version of 80s Pop Rock chicks such as Pat Benetar, mid-80s Heart, Carol Decker (T'Pau), Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Tyler.... So, no, certainly not "Hard Rock", but that sort of 80s "Soft Rock" which was more poppy...... She's far from being the likes of Leona or Rihanna, but she aint really Amy Lee or Sharon Den Adel either.....
