32. Kate Ryan - Je T'adore - Belgium 2006

ESC Result: 12th in the semi-final

Peak in my personal chart: #10

Why I love it: Finally it looked as if Belgium had struck gold with a near perfect Europop song sung by one of Western Europe's biggest stars. However, it was the fan favourite that fell at the first hurdle (there is one every year) and crashed out in 12th place in the semi-final which was a ridiculous injustice. Nevertheless, the song went on to become one of the most recognised ESC songs of the year and I've often heard it on UK radio, in the background to TV shows and in clubs since and the video made some of the UK music channels!!!

I remember that was one of my favourite songs in the semi (my mum liked it alot too) so I was so shocked and disgusted when it failed to qualify, I mean how the heck did that happen!???

That was a song that sooooo deserved to come top 10 in the final and it didn't even make it to the final.

The routine was the problem, it wasn't exciting or original enough. The microphone gimmick was just silly. They should have done the kneeswing like the original National FInal performance. I can't find it on Youtube I'm afraid :(

30. Paolo Meneguzzi - Era Stupendo - Switzerland 2008

ESC Result: 13th in the semi-final

Peak in my personal chart: #3

Why I love it: Such a classy song, maybe too classy for Eurovision, or rather Paolo sung it off key a tad...then again, even if it had been sung note perfect, I'm not sure it would have done much better against the rest of the gimmick ridden 2008 pack. This was a beautiful Italian ballad from the nearly always excellent yet rarely triumphant Switzerland, although I far preferred the album version to the Eurovision version...

29. Marta Roure - Jugarem A Estimar-Nos - Andorra 2004

ESC Result: 18th in the semi-final

Peak in my personal chart: #5

Why I love it: Yet another excellent pop song let down by a terrible performance, Andorra's debut entry in 2004 quickly became one of my faves, instantly catchy despite being in a language I will never speak, this used to cheer me up no end whilst I was doing my A-Level exams in college around the time of ESC 2004. I still wheel it out now quite often to listen to, the studio version that is, certainly not the live version...

28. Brinck - Believe Again - Denmark 2009

ESC Result: TBC

Peak in my personal chart: #3

Why I love it: Co-written by Ronan Keating, you can certainly tell! Ronan might as well be singing it himself because Brinck not only sounds exactly like him but also looks a lot like him. A fantastic, contemporary pop song that you can tell would be huge on commercial radio in the UK if it only got the chance, I'm hoping that the juries pick up on the quality of this one and send it into the top ten next week, if it reaches the final that is!!!

27. Michelle - Wer Liebe Lebt/To Live For Love - Germany 2001

ESC Result: 8th in the final

Peak in my personal chart: #3

Why I love it: A gorgeous ballad and the better of the two Michelle's in 2001, had the song not been in such a strong field it could have gone top five, but 8th was good enough in the high quality 2001 contest, and for me it's one of Germany's finest entries of the decade. Very classy, great melody and I've just realised that Michelle reminds me of Olive Snook from Pushing Daisies

26. Texas Lightning - No No Never - Germany 2006

ESC Result: 15th in the final

Peak in my personal chart: #4

Why I love it: Surely the most diverse country of the 00's in Eurovision terms, well maybe second behind the UK (), Germany wheeled out an excellent country pop track in 2006 which quite rightfully shot towards the top of nearly all of the bookies odds right up until the contest. Unfortunately Europe didn't quite get the track and it ended up in a much undeserved 15th place...the draw can't have helped much and it would have undoubtedly done better had it been performed in the last 5 songs, but I felt that this song finally upped the quality of the 2006 final, which had by far the worst start to a final I've ever seen with all of the absolute rubbish drawn at the start (which was probably a good thing if people forgot about these songs)...it didn't help Texas Lightning though unfortunately :(

Germany are as bad as the UK, sending any old rubbish

but at least it's diverse rubbish, guaranteed to be from a different genre every year, unlike Greece who wheel out the same song with different words every year (apart from this year where they wheeled out Charlotte Perrelli's Hero with different words )

I think I'll die from shock if Greece ever sends a rock song :P

let's give them credit for a bit of diversity in 2002 with S.A.G.A.P.O.

and let's take the credit back on the basis that it's one of the worst Eurovision entries ever, but thanks to Cyprus voting first, it led the voting for a couple of minutes :puke2:

Shady Lady with different words :smoke::heehee: Hero Face though

And S.A.G.A.P.O. is quite frankly a cancer upon Eurovision :(

Hero Face was stunning, the best bit was la Perrelli in GaGa's clothes in the picture

agreed about S.A.G.A.P.O., even the kings of Eurovision can slip up sometimes -_-

I actually liked S.A.G.A.P.O. a bit. :heehee:

Hero Face so needs a tactical manipulation of the BJSC rules, it's that good :snif::kink:

And every Mdice has its Utada :kink:

Hero Face? I guess that's a mash-up? Is it on Youtube?

Anyway, I totally love Switzerland 2008 - great song and Paolo was soooooo cute! :kink: Again I think the silly dance routine ruined it.

You can add Ireland to that list - the last entry from them I liked was in 2006. Then you have to go back to 1998 for their previous half-decent entry. (2003 not included, for sounding too much like Denmark 2000.)
