I dare say my Eurovision knowledge is not in the same league as you guys, but one entry that has bizarrely remained in my thoughts was Israels's entry in 2000.

What do you get when you cross a group of Spice Girl rejects, a very camp Jarvis Cocker and a £1 production budget?...

This!

Jemini is an easy target, but deservedly so.

"It was out of their hands" was their excuse about the complete out of tune singing. Nothing to do with the fact that the song was complete and utter bollocks then and they couldn't hold a note?

Jemini could have easily been a great entry, if sung by someone else. I quite like the song, actually, but they were hideously out of tune (due to sound malfunctions apparently, yet their backing vocalists could still sing on key?), their outfits were so cheap, and the production of the song had NO depth to it.

That Israeli song is pretty dire aswell

I've read a book about all the nul points entries from Eurovision, and I stand by Jemini, as if you watch any other performance of the song, they sing perfectly. Jemma in particular has a lovely voice. The BBC's attitude to the staging and their penny pinching with regards to ear-pieces etc was indicative of their attitude towards the contest in general.

Anyways back to cringeworthy entries. I doubt much could beat Malta from 1975.

Such lyrics!!

I read that book whilst researching for my (loosely based on Eurovision) dissertation last year :D

anyway, my nomination is actually a song that I loved at the time by an incredibly cringey soon to be husband and wife duo from Slovenia who crashed out in the semis in 2004 with this chirpy yet completely off tune at times entry that makes you want to cover your eyes;

I love Same-ach :(

Malta 2006 is HIDEOUSLY ATROCIOUS! :puke:

ENJOY. LOL.

well, even Maltese people didn't like it! But he probably won Malta's finals because he was popular!

He repeats I do for 36 times IF i remember well

I love Sameach too Pav :(

And actually I liked I Do in studio version, but it looked and sounded terrible on stage. This however has no redeeming feature:

If we're on about Spice Girls rejects from 2000, let's look no further than Macedonia's entry that year :kink:

XXL - 100% te ljubam

I rather shamefully quite liked the studio version

Ditto, but live it's terrible. Reminded me of B*Wiched, who I loved at the time :kink:

And they're not just kept to 2000. I present to you, Croatia's entry in 1997:

And it was very quickly forgotten. Possibly because this was next.

Katrina & The Waves... belong to this thread?! LOL.

No, I wasn't saying that LSAL should be in this thread (seeing as it's in my all-time Top 10), I'm just saying that it's presence meant that people forgot about Croatia - which preceeded it - when it came to vote. Hence it getting just 24 points.

And three more cringe-worthy entries, all from 1997:

The amazing thing is that only one of these finished with nil points.

Oh okay, i just thought that "LSAL was next and this was more cringy", hence my confusion because the song is utter superb
I don't think it was cringy. It was clear they were taking the p***, and in that context it worked. Cringy only happens when people try too hard, IMHO.
