August 5, 200915 yr Hull have signed some 19 year old Valencia striker on loan. He is "the next Torres, I would say he's as good as anyone in the world now for his age. Definitely a future international superstar..." as quoted from Barry from West Hull writing in to the Daily Mail today. :funky:
August 8, 200915 yr Author Liverpool now officially signed Aqualini for £16m! Bit of a gamble with his injuries, although they're misleasing. The majority of his injuries have occured because he's been rushed back too soon! I'm very excited about him personally. If he keeps to full fitness and adpats to the Premier League then he could be a very very good signing. Similar sort of player to Alonso but more box-to-box. Apparently Liverpool have had a verbal offer of £6m for Turner rejected too. Phil Brown wants £12m for him! No chance.
August 8, 200915 yr Not a transfer but should probably be posted. Espanyol stunned by Jarque death Espanyol captain Daniel Jarque has died after he suffered a heart attack following a training session, the club have confirmed in a statement. The 26-year-old midfielder had been training in Coverciano, Italy, where the squad are on a pre-season camp. Club doctors and Italian paramedics tried to revive Jarque without success. His death comes two years after Sevilla defender Antonio Puerta, 22, died of heart failure after collapsing during a Spanish league game. Jarque joined Espanyol at the age of 12, making his debut in 2002, and the Spaniard was handed the club captaincy this summer. "Tragedy struck Espanyol and the family of Dani Jarque this evening. The player died from a cardiac arrest," said a club statement. "The doctor carried out CPR on the player and used a defibrillator, which showed that the arrest was non responsive. "RCD Espanyol, broken with pain, wish to put themselves at the absolute disposition of the family of our captain Dani Jarque, to whom go our warmest thoughts." Espanyol, who had been due to play Bologna tomorrow, have suspended their pre-season tour of Italy and will fly back to Barcelona. The president of city neighbours Barcelona, Joan Laporta, offered his club's condolences. "We are filled with extreme dismay at this tragic event which we deeply regret," he told the Barcelona club website. "Today we are all in mourning. "I want to send, on behalf of FC Barcelona, our deepest sympathies to RCD Espanyol for the painful loss of their captain Dani Jarque, and to his family." ----- R.I.P awful news. Always said to see a footballer die so young. :( Maybe I just never heard of it before but this seems to happen too often at the moment. Marc Viven Foe always seemed like a fairly isolated case but that's Antonio Puerta of Sevilla, Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnel and now Jarque in the space of two years, as well as Clive Clarke who always said he felt lucky not to have died. :(
August 8, 200915 yr Author Very sad indeed. It's got to be due to the fact that footnallers play more and more. It's not good for their health to play 40-60 high-tempo games a year. RIP.
August 8, 200915 yr f*** :o We were heavily linked with him last summer :o No age to die :| what is it with these Spanish players :o Jarque, Puerta, De La Red having a heart attack and recovering etc The medical system with Spain leaves a lot to be desired if conditons are going undetected till its too late
August 9, 200915 yr is it me or do these mostly seem to strike at the opening end of seasons. Tragic news indeed :( RIP.
August 11, 200915 yr I echo what was said above, RIP. We seem to be signing players at will now. We've just signed Hunt I think from Reading, we're signing Championship players because Phil Brown can't bring anyone else in. He's signing lots of strikers and no-one in defence. August 11, 200915 yr RIP, this is very sad to hear. As others have said, if there is such a pattern for these sudden deaths it always seems to happen at the beginning or at the end of the season.
August 12, 200915 yr Author Sunderland have signed Cattermole. Top signing for them. Think he could become a very good midfielder at one of the big clubs in due course. I hate Nobel higher than Cattermole, but it's a very good signing for Sunderland imo.

August 13, 200915 yr Author Can't believe Hull are trying their luck with Negredo! Really good player, although no offence to Hull or anything but he'd be wasted there. Really suprised a top team hasn't come in for him. They probably have, but don't want to bent over backwards by Madrid!
August 13, 200915 yr Wolves have signed Mancienne on a season long loan. Excellent signing IMO, I really hope he can become a top quality defender! Portsmouth have got Vanden Borre on loan for a season too, he was awesome FM 2 or 3 years ago and made his international debut at 16. Has stalled a bit since though, still I'll be interested to see how he gets on.
August 13, 200915 yr Author I think Mancienne is a bit overrated personally... he can become a very good player I agree, but at the moment he suffers from 'English player at a top club' syndrome.
August 13, 200915 yr He probably is overrated at the moment, though I've seen him play twice (once for Wolves and once for England U21) and both times he's looked a class above his team mates. It'd just be nice for one of Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea to actually bring a player though their youth system without them being poached from somewhere else. I mean who was the last one? Darren Fletcher?!

Darren Fletcher?! Wasn't Darren Fletcher even poached from somewhere? I seem to remember reading that Liverpool were in for him, but tea at Fergie's house swayed his mind to sign for Man Utd. It's hard for players to come through youth teams, especially for northern ones. I can't remember exactly, but i'm sure pre-16 (or a similar age) you can't sign for a club unless they're within a 50 mile radius or something. It's often why West Ham have such a good team (their youth set-up is excellent, but they also have the most amount of players to choose from!). Plus Wigan, Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Blackburn, Burnley, Preston etc. are not very far away from each other so that's a contributing factor as well. I follow youth football a little bit, and there are some good English footballers coming up from Liverpool. Wouldn't be suprised if a certain player properly broke into the 1st team this season at all...
August 13, 200915 yr That probably makes sense tbh. Although the likes of Fletcher and Beckham were only 'poached' from ametuer teams, it's not like when Jermaine Pennant, Macheda or Jack Hobbs who moved from recognised league teams as 16 year olds. I jsut find it odd that they can (I assume) all pour millions of pounds into youth every year and barely get anything out of it where as some teams (Arsenal, West Ham, Man City, Boro) seem to get much more.

Well I think it's a case of building up your youth team. I don't think it's as simple as just pouring money into the youth team and being naive with it in regards to you producing players. It takes years, and a good turnover of players in order for good 1st team players to come through. Like I say I follow youth football a little bit, and Rafa Benitez for example has over-hauled the youth team twice now since he's been here as the players the coaching team were producing were not good enough. So now they're modelling it on the Barcelona scheme of things which has served them so well. And it will have to produce good world class players. Even this season, the best players are going for high amounts of cash that not all the top teams can compete with becuase of Man City, Real Madrid, Chelsea etc. so if the players are teams like Barcelona, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc. it makes it harder for the bigger teams to poach. That's why I think there's going to be such an importance on club's youth teams in the future. England is protected by laws, so foreign clubs cannot poach players, which Spain, Italy, France etc. do not have - so i'm sure we'll see even more of that happening. Barcelona can always moan that Arsenal stole Fabregas from them, but they did exactly the same with Messi!
August 15, 200915 yr Notts County have signed Kasper Schmeichel for approx £1.5m  Good signing for both I feel. Great keeper for them and for him, well he wouldn't get any games at City and is probably currently Championship level, he could well be there in two years anyway. Bit like Joe Lewis.
August 25, 200915 yr 5 years too! I'm glad I don't sit next to the County fan at work any more!
