"humbug" is amazing!!!

and i m thinking seriously not to download again an album before its official release only to hear it for the first time with the best sound quality.

"Sketchead" (bonus track) is a very good song and should be an album track cause it fits perfect with the dark and dirty feeling of the other loud album tracks.

and i love I Haven't Got My Strange (b side to crying lighting) is also awesome...

Not sure if this has been asked here (and I don't want to trawl through the posts) but does Humbug meet the deadline to be eligible for a Brit Award next year? I'm hoping it does.

Norma

Norma, i am very sure they are eligible. I think the deadline is the end of november with november releases at least being eligible for two years nominations. BUT, i think this year they will have a chance at The Group category, the only one where they are not against Robbie (Alexandra and Leona i think will release too late). I expect Robbie taking everything he can (most for sure the single :naughty:) and that is bad as i wanted The Circus of TT to take it (i know what you think Norma, but i love it infinitely more than BW). So, as i can predict The Circus will get no nomination , i am rooting for Arctic to take it. Still gutted The Age of the Understatement didn't take anything :arrr:

I gave a hear to a part of the Humbung. It is darker and the melody is not so easy to follow as their earlier work - so not quite radio friendly. But i like some songs much more as the first single CL - they are really a little bit of The Last Shwadow Puppets. I don't love them as much as i love the songs from The Age of the Understatement, but they have the chance to grown on me.

I like much the music part of the songs  , not very impressed with the lyrics till now.

I don't think TT will get any nominations this year ... but even if The Circus was in the running ... my loyalties would be a bit divided as I really like the AM's now - I've not heard much of this album ... but I'm liking Alex Turner more and more (and the minute he made the Jake Thackray connection ... I liked him more!) If the Arctics are up against Williams for anything ... I want the Arctics. If Robbie wants to look at really clever, thoughtful lyrics ... he could take some lessons from Turner. For someone so young ... he's really, really mature with his writing.

Yeah i'm 99.9% sure it's BRITs eligible.

Everytime they've been nominated for Best Album they've won - but the first 2 have been well received critically so idk this year. Humbug's been mixed. Just depends whose on the BRIT panel and what other albums are nominated. I really can't think of any other albums that might get a nomination at the moment... Kasabian? Robbie? Leona? Florence? La Roux?

If the rest of Rob's album is as ordinary as Bodies ... then it would be an absolute travesty if he got nominated ... and just go to show how 'bum-crawling' the Brits panel are to him. I actually don't think The Circus will be nominated (and to be honest ... as to me it isn't as good as Beautiful World ... I have no problems with that). As long as Take That are nominated (and win) the Best Live Act section ... I'll be more than happy.

Humbug ... I've yet to hear more from it. I was going to download a selection of tracks but to be honest ... as I listen to music in my car more than anywhere else I may as welll just buy the album. You won't believe the hassle I have to get music from iTunes from my library to iPod! As I don't have an Apple ... I have to select my playlist, burn it to a CD ... then transfer the CD to the iPod! After nearly 30 years of marriage ... you think my husband would have splashed out on an Apple iPod rather than a cheaper version wouldn't you????

LOOOOLLLLL, perhaps your hubby knows about such things as much as my hubby!  I was the first wanting a mp3 player and i changing every year and my old one goes to my hubby , who uses it 2 times in a year at fitness club.

I still have no love for itunes, i much more prefer to buy the CD and turn in mp3. It is a difference in quality and for good music absolutly a have to.

Iris! My mind is definitely going ... it isn't nearly 30 years ... it'll be our 'Silver' in two years ... so its only 23 years married! Still ... enought to earn a Masarati, let alone a bloody iPod of any description!

I think Cornerstone is pretty radio friendly - that COULD be massive for the album. I could imagine it being played on a lot of daytime UK radio etc.

But the album is just so different to the previous 2. I think it sort of alienates a lot of fans in a way, not that I care as I still love them and they make great music but y'know..

For sure, if they loss some fans, they will get other new. I like that they keep trying and not stick to a winning formula. That is what real music is all about. It may be that i will not like one of thier album in the future and def. i don't like all their songs, but i admire them for being real and not an music industry made image.

Arctic Monkeys could have been MASSIVE. Now yes they're already big, but had they released Mardy Bum off the 1st album they'd have become national treasures. Even most people that hate Arctic Monkeys would love that song I dare say. The album would have sold over 2m copies easily. BUT I admire them for going against the obvious, and opting to work on their 2nd album instead.

Josh Homme's influence on this album is massive. I still don't like it as much as their first 2, but that's because it's very different. It appeals more to those who weren't keen on Arctic Monkeys, but liked Last Shadow Puppets and vice-versa!

I finally bought the first album today (well there was a two for a tenner offer in HMV - isn't there always). So I bought the Monkeys first album and the Last Shadow Puppets album. I had downloaded a track or two off the LSP's but I thought ... what the hell ... its just less hassle to have the CD. I've played the first album twice now in the car and I do like Mardy Bum. I think I like it all though. I like the way Alex Turner doesn't do anything with his voice ... he keeps it 'local' .... and his lyrics ... well to be fair ... I take my hat off to him. I'm usually not one to bother too much about lyrics as for me the music is the important thing ... but with the Monkeys ... you get the best of both worlds.

Yeah I was listening the first album the other night and the way he's changed his voice, is well, a bit odd. I'm not sure whether it's down to Alex experimenting/trying to sound different, or whether it's down to different production values. But then again saying that, in some of the early Arctic Monkeys' demos Alex sounds American in one of them!

I think 'Humbug' is slowly becoming my favourite Arctic Monkeys album. :o
