It's hypocritical of you to say you'd consider buying a mini album but also hope that it doesn't catch on?!

I just don't really like the concept of it, and I wouldn't like to see every artist doing it a year from now and maybe even in an extreme circumstance, to make full length albums essentially obsolete. I'm probably exaggerating there but I hope it won't come to that all the same...

i think they should sell three versions the normal, the deluxe and the mini but i suppose the mini narrows the suspicion as to what the singles will be.

The way I see it, the mini albums give a re-issue a great shot at success. I certainly wouldn't mind all re-issued albums to only be available in the mini format (a la Doll Domination) because by then the singles have been decided/released anyway, and the fans need not spend £10 twice.

As bad as this is, a lot of the general public buy an album because of the singles.

I suppose, but surely they'd buy it because they like the singles and want to see if there's anything else on the album? Otherwise it'd be better to just download the singles. That's how I see it anyway, just take Lady GaGa's album. It had a disappointing debut, which I expect was because she was new and only had one song out there but, come the second single, it went to #1. Probably because they found out there was more to her than that one song.

Actually, that makes me see it in a positive way now. I wouldn't mind them if they replaced the Deluxe versions. I'd never buy a deluxe edition if I already had the original album but I might consider a cheaper edition with the new songs and singles. Actually, I wouldn't, I'd just download the new tracks but I'd be more likely to think about it.

I like the idea, but what puts me off buying one is that it's actually cheaper per track to buy the entire 'normal edition' of the album. In the example of Doll Domination, I like all 6 tracks on the Mini version but I could get 18 tracks for just £2 more (including good ones like Elevator, Halo and Love The Way You Love Me). I'd just delete them from my mp3 player or burn a new shorter disc if I wanted to.
it will be very interesting to see how this plays out and if it catches on. i'm especially interested to see how this plays into a normal album cycle
I think it's a great idea. Ideally they'd be £4.99 in the shops though. I'll buy a lot of them if the right artists release them. I can't usually listen to a whole album anyway.
